Why would a computer guy help you fix your computer, instead of making the money himself? because he actually cares. It's hard finding people like this. he could have kept this great information to himself. I bet your local computer guy would not have shared this with you. UA-cam creators don't make as much as you think. Certainly not at my level. Ive grinded for 3 years just to try and build my channel. Every video I made up until recently, I made pennies on. I actually care about helping people with their Windows problems. But I don't want to fix computers for the rest of my life either

Excellent video. I've spent years doing exactly this on so many peoples computers where they just click everything they see. Having a USB with the tools you use on it is essential since many viruses will block internet access or max out the RAM making it so slow, downloading anything will take precious time and could lead to complete destruction of the HD.
The only thing I'd add is to turn off the internet connection and restart in safe mode without networking to completely isolate the computer. There are viruses that will continue to redownload and rename themselves and install in various locations in an attempt to fool the antivirus or cleaning tool you use.

Thats the reason I keep an external usb with my files backed up. It's quicker and easier to wipe your computer and reinstall fresh. Screw anti virus software. Most are scams just to get a monthly fee.

I just saw this video and I realized the script basically does the whole 'windows tango' that I been taught to do. The two major benefit is that now It's only a few clicks that need to be done, and I don't have to spend the entire day clicking each program. I'm sold on this and thanks for the info. It'll help the next time I end up being the 'family tech support'

Great video. I’m currently hacked. The guy scammed me 2 month ago while opening an Etsy shop, a chat box opened and this dude started chatting with me, and he literally could see what I was doing on the computer, not sure how they do that. Somehow he guided me towards giving him up to @£200. He said I shouldn’t worry, as that amount would not come out of my account, but he just needed to verify that I was a real person, and not a scammer trying to open an account on etsy. Monty’s before, I kept telling my husband weird things are happening on my laptop. I try to create a website on any platform, wix or Wordpress, half hour later, everything is erased, stuff like that. Will try this to see if I get rid of this scammer….

I would install Malwarebytes and run a scan, install a vast free antivirus and do a boot scan, also remove start of items and defray your computer if you have a standard hard drive. I’ve made many other videos on how to clean up and speed up your PC. Transcript is generally the last resort if you can avoid it because it’s so powerful.

Most people have cloud storage of some description these days, so I recommend creating your "emergency folder" in Dropbox/Drive/OneDrive/pCloud etc., and then it will be available on any linked device. (You may need to set the folder as "store local copy" with some providers.) Even if you lose the internet, you will still have "local" access to the folder, so all good.

True. Unless you have more than 5GB of data. A solution like Carbonite makes much more sense then, especially since no human ever sees that data. Can't say the same for Microsoft 🤷‍♂️

excellent question! The real reason is that I have found that the combination of free avast antivirus, paid Malwarebytes pro work beautifully together. I have use the pro features of avast antivirus, and wow good, I don’t necessarily think they justify the cost. I tell my clients all the time when I install the free avast antivirus that that’s generally all they need, and it’s what I use on my home PC in, although I am a little more malware conscious than most, I have found it to work perfectly for me

Not sure for how long, but I discovered by chance that I couldn't access any antivirus websites. That triggered a red flag and started searching for answers to bypass this block.

Honestly the best way to keep your PC in top shape is to do clean installs of Windows about once a year, or every two years.
But what about your data? Well just keep all your important files on a separate drive so when you wipe your boot drive you don't lose anything. Move everything out of My Documents to another drive, I have second physical drive (ssd) installed in my PC, but you can use a NAS, an extremal USB drive, or USB flash drive, or you can use cloud storage. Heck you can even plug in your smart phone and use some of it's storage temporarily.
Sure apps will have to be reinstalled but that's not really difficult. There are apps/scripts that can install all of them for you. I usually download the installers for the apps I use on my second drive before I wipe my boot drive, along with new drivers I'll need for my hardware. Games can be downloaded (or moved) to your second drive, so when you reinstall Steam, just point it to to that folder on your second drive, and you won't have to redownload any of your games.

you are not wrong. I just try to keep in mind that the vast majority of average users don’t even want to deal with it until it’s too late. Great comment tho!

@@AskYourComputerGuy Oh i understand that. Been using computers for 40 years, and it took me ages to develop some sort of system to keep a PC functioning, other than hardware failures.
The real problem these days is most people use phones which aren't serviceable in the same way as computer is. People just spend $500-$1000 and abuse it and just replace it after a year, because it's fashionable to get the new shiny thing, even though it's no different than their last shiny new thing. The technology market is dependent on people just getting a new unit rather than fixing it. That's the mindset of most people, they can't be bothered with maintenance. Common sense flies out the door since they assume the device will do it for them.

Buying a new hard drive after a infection?
Never heard of a Zero Fill Format ? That will overwrite the entire surface of the drive, and return the drive almost to factory settings.
After a Zero Fill Format, even after a quick Zero Fill Format, Windows ask to initialize the drive again as MBR or GTP disk, like if the drive came new out of the package.
A Zero Fill Format wipes everything from a HDD, SSD, USB Thumbdrive, Memory cards etc.....
Look for the Western Digital Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for Windows, the Zero Fill Format option is located in that program.

hey, thank you for all the amazing info. I was able to stop malware that kept reinstalling after restart using the Autoruns and unchecking them in autoruns . Defender would "remove" it but kept coming back until I unchecked it in Autoruns, two items getting flagged by virustotal 6 and 16/76. Once I got this to stop I ran the TRON script with prep stage and disinfect stage. All ran fine and finished. After a restart and another Autoruns run I still see the entries there, unchecked of course. When I use the jump to image feature in autoruns it tells me these files are in programdata adobe and sharp folders with couple exe files in there. Can I just delete these folders? I don't have a program called sharp or any Adobe software. delete these folders? or just the exe files? What do you suggest? please would really appreciate your help thank you.

    Otherwise, nice vid.
It's very rare I have machines to recover now, as I make sure all machines that pass through my hands at some point, have preventative measures in place. Not had a family or friend system to repair for well over a year now.
Edit to add: whenever I visit anyone, and machine hasn't needed my attention, I do a quick check too, to make sure nothing is dormant, or software installed on the sly (ie bloatware).

Come on this is the old debate I use Linux or I have a MAC since I am virus free. That this statement is complete nonsense you know for yourself. That you are less infected than with Windows machines is probably more to the sales volumes (75% market share Windows) against (15% MACOS) determined via PageViews seen at eg Statista. As for bluescreens or their frequency, I only know them from faint memory since Windows 7. If I still see some today, defective RAM's or bad drivers were usually the problem or let's say most of the time.
In the more than 40 years I have been in the IT field (starting with assembler programming (6502) in the early days up to C++ in the present time) as well as administration for AIX machines (Escala Bull Server) or even repairs there was always only one problem recognizable and that was the user who deliberately ignores (simply clicks away) or senselessly ignores hints from the system. Btw. just recently I've got a kernel panic so Unix has a Windows equivalent huh?

WIN7: This was a great video, and the process helped clean-up my computer. Thank You! However, it did not fix my CPU utilization, which was running ~15% higher than normal at complete idle. I meticulously stopped running services until I found the culprit. It was the WIN7 "Windows Update" service, which I must have enabled recently for some reason. Now idles at ~3-4%, with my favorite apps (Outlook, Synthesizer, & DAW) running, waiting for me to play. What a relief! Runs much cooler, quieter, etc. Again, great video, and your code is impeccable!!
