I always get emotional when I hear this song. Gothic was the first RPG I've player. It offered me the first game world I got immersed in like really deep - I loved it and still do. The sense of immersion in this game is one of the best if not THE BEST I've experienced in my life soo far. A world in which you get to do awesome things, like wielding freakin two-handed swords and fight against almost anyone on the map (really, excepting your companions and 1 or 2 NPCs, whom other than wanting to kill everyone on the map, you would never attack anyway, cuz they're basically you buddies to who you grow attached to), or going on a hunt for freaking shadow beasts - good luck with them. Sure you have that in other games, but Gothic is different. It's not as easy as you'd think. I doesn't take you by the hand and carries you along on a safe linear path, no, it warns you to keep to the beaten track until you are strong enough or until you have no choice. What you do with that warning is up to you! Stay on the beaten track and live another day or wander of, in hopes of treasure and discovery - it is your choice, but remember, the game does not give a damn about you! (Of course you can save and reload, but the way you lie on the ground after being mauled down by a wolf, with only one bite, just laying on the floor with your eyes and mouth open, whilst the rest of the wolf pack gather around your inanimate corpse to feed from. You can't do anything, nada, only move that camera a bit that is focused on your dead body feeding the dogs, all whilst that eary music is played. And you can wait for the game to autoload - it won't, until you tell it to. You have to manually exit to the menu and double click the save you wanna load. Even death in this game shows some meaning - it shows how meaningless you are as soon as you die. That shot sticks with you, and you really wanna fucking avoid it next time until you strong enough. And that just adds to the beauty of the game, making staying alive and away from dangerous places all the more rewarding. The music, that atmosphere, my God - I still get the chills every time I hear that freakin forest song... O.O I will forever be grateful to my buddy for showing me this game. I will never forget him for that.

Ich freue mich nur das die Pyrinnas die Rechte an Gothic wieder haben von Jowood (R.I.P) kann man nur hoffen, dass sowas wie Gothic 1 mal wieder kommt....

Still one of the greatest games ever (along with #2). The music explains it all without even playing it! I feel that current games don't have what these older ones do: Actual substance! And they weren't so completely overdone in graphics so we could still use our imaginations! The old "sandbox" games like this were true freedom. Gothic and Gothic 2 for me, continued the second RPG golden age into the 21st century. Sure, a lot of us survived the 90's with games like Might and Magic 6, 7 and 8 (and the soundtrack, especially for #6 was mind-blowing for its time just like Gothic's was). But for a truly all around experience, Gothic was it. I won't speak of #3. I'm am auditory person so changing too many voice actors at once ruins ANY game for me. Which brings me from left field to suggest one last gem to you RPG fans: Vampire Bloodlines. Voice acting? A+. Writing? Same. Graphics? Not too much. Getting in touch with your inner Los Angeles vampire? A++. And again, amazing soundtrack with tons of inside jokes for any of us goth kids :P
Легендарная серия игр... Что вторая, что первая и даже третья - классика жанра RPG. Отличная атмосфера, проработанный сюжет, запоминающиеся персонажи, интересные квесты и МУЗЫКА. Без последней теряется добротная половина атмосферы. Жаль, что Аркания получилась редкостным говном, ещё и не каноничным. Русские, если вы тут есть - дайте знак. Было бы интересно увидеть хоть несколько человек из СНГ, ценящих бессмертную классику.

Maybe I don't like germany, maybe I don't like their language but... I just love Gothic. The real gothic not crap like arcania, just true GOTHIC 1 or GOTHIC 2 Night of The Raven, G3 can be too but it's not the same Gothic but i like it too because of large world and possibilities :3 I wish next gen remake, everything leave as original just enchant graphics to next gen and I would swallow on display while exploring Myrthana or while fighting with dragon... So many memories I have with this game.
+Lorri I rarely have this opinion about games but Gothic is one of those exceptions which I prefer to play with German voiceover. It makes me appreciate the German language which really isn't that bad :D

They didn't mention the two delays JoWood granted them for Gothic III. Expecting to produce a finished Skyrim-like game with 20 guys in 2-3 years was just an unrealistic estimate on PB's side. But that's another story. :)
Verglichen mit dem Soundtrack von Gothic 1 wirkt der Soundtrack von Gothic 2 ein bisschen...austauschbar und langweilig muss ich sagen. Entweder generische Helden-Epos Musik oder stilles dahindudeln. Erst mit dem Addon kommen interessantere Soundtracks hinzu. In Gothic 1 schien der Soundtrack einfach überall zu passen. Die verschiedenen Lager, der Wald, die Wildnis, etc.
Sind spinnereien. Offiziell wurde noch nichts angekündigt. Es gibt zwar diverse Threads mit Wünschen/Ideen/Anregungen in Fanforen (Forallem "WorlfOfPlayers"), aber offiziell ist noch nichts. Ich hoffe halt dass, sollte es tatsächlich noch einen Gothic-Teil geben, es nicht so ein Flop wird wie Arcania.
Was erzählt ihr alle hier, dass ein Gothic 1 Remake oder Gothic 5 rauskommt?! Stimmt das jetzt und das ist wirklich in der Mache oder sind das nur "spinnerreien" von euch? (soll nicht persönlich gemeint sein.)
