    I always like how the music is so slurred in these videos. It makes it seem so lost in time.

      That effect is known as tape wow and flutter -- where old tape recordings are worn or the playback equipment is not up to par. It's funny how this bad sound has become synonymous with forward looking technology promo videos. I've come to love it to the point where I simulate it on purpose.

    Best analog jet ever. Flew transcon in a mostly empty TWA L1011 in 1986, felt like flying in a gigantic room without the overhead bins. Happy times

      I remember TWA fondly. I flew (as a passenger) on their 747s.

    A stunning aircraft. Lockheed achieved their goal of making the most sophisticated and technologically advanced passenger aircraft of its time, but sadly it was never a financial nor commercial success. Brutal competition from the DC10 resulted in two very similar aircraft competing for the same segment of the market.

    Always loved the Tristar - thought it one of the most beautiful airliners ever built. I'd not remembered Pan Am operated them at all - until watching this video.

      I flew one around Christmas 1983 from Detroit to Minneapolis on Pan Am. I don't have video but, I do have some wingshots.

    Cool! Flew on one in the summer of 1998, from Atlanta to Madrid, Spain. It was Delta and I remember the screeen showed over 1000kph towards the end of the flight. I was so impressed. It was also the most comfortable long distance flight I've ever experienced because I had the complete middle row for me! I now kind of remember flying on another TriStar a few years earlier, from Pan Am, but I might be confused. Oh well, during that Delta flight I didn't think much about it because I had no idea the TriStar was on its last years of service. By the way, I'm more of a DC-10 guy, but I admit the TriStar was a really cool plane too!

    Lockheed was a dreamer company, coming up with ideas that never came about like the ones at the end.

      @@nenblom they were truly great airplanes. The hull loss accidents in the US, resulting in fatalities, were due to pilot error (EAL 401) and weather (DAL 191).

    Great aircraft. It was way advanced for it's time. Great safety record. Very little accidents vers the MD-10 or MD-11 tri-jets. It was sleek and handsome. I always found the wide body tri-jets to be so handsome. But to their demise due to the 767 when the FFA started to grant twin engine jets for trans Atlantic crossing without the 45 min rule. R.I.P the tri jets. The L10-11 was Lockheeds first and only commercial aircraft. And honestly that's what made it great but also killed it due to it was designed by engineers who mainly designed military aircraft. It was way ahead of its time too ahead.

    • @mikeprevost8650
      @mikeprevost8650 Рік тому +1

      No, it wasn't Lockheed's first and only commercial aircraft. Lockheed was also the manufacturer of the Constellation and Super Constellation, among the most advanced piston engine aircraft. They were much more of a commercial success than the L-1011.

    Great video and thank-you for taking back to before the airlines became "flying cattle cars". But, what the public wants, that it will get. My first commercial flight to Germany was from JFK to FRA on a 1011. My most memorable flight was from BRU to ATL on a 1011. Indeed, it was a wonderful aircraft. I always wish Lockheed could somehow get back into the commercial aircraft business and provide Boeing and Airbus some healthy competition. Thank-you again for the video.

    A beauty indeed and very advanced in its days. Sad she didn't sell well, making Lockheed to close the line, and eventually withdraw from the airliner business.

    And the only really operation L-1011 operates as a rocket launcher for the Pegasus rocket. Hardly what Lockhead had in mind for 21st century service I'm sure.

      And McDonnell Douglas cut design corners in order to enter service ahead of the Tri Star. "Fly before they roll" was the company mantra in the tri jet race.

  • @FLT111

    Lockheed needs to come back into the civil market and design an aircraft that is the same size as the A320neo and 737 max. More so to eclipse the 737 max because that aircraft is a joke designed by a company that focuses these days on money over safety.
