2011 Volvo C30 Gear Shifter Collar Replacement

- Replacing the front-back collar on a 2011 Volvo C30 with a manual transmission.
The old collar had worn down after 120,000 miles or so. As such, it had started popping off of the peg on the transmission selector.
Replacement was pretty easy: after moving the air filter box out of the way, the shifter end is easily accessible. You have to remove a flexible seating ring from the top of the shifter end to remove the mechanism itself, which sits inside a collar. Replace the mechanism and attach the new seating ring, then replace the air filter box.
Part number for the whole gear shifter cable assembly is 31259506. I don't think they sell the shifter cable ends on their own.
Id like to see how you replace gear box line in v 50 volvo.

Hi Adam-I don't think that the individual sockets are sold on their own; I've only seen them sold as part of the full gear linkage cable set. The full gear linkage set can usually be had for $50-60 USD on ebay-a bit dear for a little plastic socket if you ask me. Make sure before buying that the sockets on the end look like the ones on your car. I think there are two general types: one with metal teeth on the inside of the socket (like in this video) and one without.
@@CharlesHarriesThank you Charles. I forgot to feedback to you but I ended up trying a local junkyard and found one on an s60 that fit my v50. Not the same kind but it fits. I didn't have any cash so they gave it to me free of charge. Beats the 200 dollars that the volvo dealer wanted for the complete linkage.
what s the reason u changed that? also do you know for volvo c30 1.6 petrol 2009 if it s normal the gearbox to be stiff? i find it hard to change into 3rd gear. should i change the transmission fluid first or what do you think are the steps?
The shifter collar had sort of worn away after 120,000 miles, so it wouldn't sit securely on the peg anymore, I assume as a result of the plastic collar on the metal peg. The transmission issue could be any number of things but a fluid change would probably be a good first step to diagnosing it.
Hi bro , i have a volvo c30 it showed messages transmission performance low and i changed the whole transmission last week , today i got the same message with the mew transmission when i turn off the car and on again it disappears but this hurts cuz i paid alot and shouldt have any problem any idea whats wrong ?
No idea off the top of my head, but it sounds like it could be a faulty sensor? You'll likely have better luck diagnosing it if you connect an OBD-II reader and read the specific fault that the car is sending.
