Great conversation! Richard did a fantastic job of understanding that he was in RED mode and that he needed to continue to manage his adrenalin dump to get the most out of himself. Military training will teach you that! Re: the officers response to him and the custody...I guarantee that in hindsight Richard realized that they were not in the same state of mind that he was and that maybe they had never been in a situation with such chaos. I'm a retired officer and can tell you that no amount of training teaches the actual chaos that is felt by anyone that finds themselves in a fight or die situation. Richard is the hero here and should be honored as such! Thanks for the interview and sharing of your platform Jon!

I truly believe we won’t have real, meaningful change until more survivor stories like THIS one are heard and unfortunately it’ll probably take crime scene photos of a school for people to fully wrap their minds around the problem. I don’t care how much of a gun rights guy you are, when you SEE the damage done to someone that’s the same age as YOUR KID, something changes.

    • @mrwoody1413

Taking guns won’t stop bad people from getting their hand on them.. if someone wants to hurt people they’re going to find a way to do it regardless of laws.. they’re wanting to do something that’s already a crime so what is gonna stop them from committing another crime to get one? There are more firearms than people in this country.. it’d be impossible to get them all..
Having good people with firearms is the best bet.. when a bad guy sees a “Gun Free Zone” sign what they see is an easy target with no protection.. do you ever see mass shootings at places where it is known that there are people with firearms there.. or places with armed security?

Assault rifles are already banned. There's no criminal or would be criminal on earth that would think "gee that's illegal, better not do that", some of the most high crime areas have the strictest gun laws. If guns were a problem, people would know it. There's more guns in America than people. The media exploits shootings and people on social media further exploit it by tweeting or sharing biased statistics, straight up lies, assumptions at best, etc and people just believe what they're told, most of which have never shot a gun. That's what's ridiculous.
