I get the impression that the early Epic Battle Fantasy stuff was intended to be sort of an MMO, and Matt and Natalie were friends who played it, hence the use of emoticons and phrases like "we're lagging out". I guess Lazarus and Lancelot were their "rivals" so to speak. Later games feels more like a straight fantasy series, with in jokes and what not. I adore how the older Epic Battle Fantasy stuff had this rough charm to them. Like, you could tell a 14 year old made them with the mindset of making something as stupidly awesome as possible. And it worked! The newer Epic Battle Fantasy stuff is great for its own reasons (like being one of the best JRPGs in recent years), but part of me finds the mentality of "fuck it, I want my OCs to fight Goku and Yoko from Gurren Lagann" charming.

@Goddess Shadow Not entirely dead, it's still there, not as much as it's golden days but definitely not dead, those who moved to MS2 have not stayed there, at least not most of them, since the game turned out to have major flaws in it's progression the game pretty much "died" a few months after release. But both games are fairly ok when it comes to population, at least neither feel empty or isolated, but at least in the first maplestory that depends on what server you play at.

I love that this artstyle just ages fine. Some pieces of work sort of become weird the more in the future they are seen. But not this. This is beautiful.
While there may not be combo _skills_ even in EBF5, you can still do some pretty sweet combos involving buffs, debuffs, status effects, and (a) powerful attack(s) in any of the games!
For those who wonder where did Natalie go after the "Giant Sword Attack"... Well she fall into the floor at 3:12 and then she gets impaled by a katana falling down. Rip Natalie :'( It has been almost 10 years, never forget it.

Ill translate. CC in RPGs means Crowd Control and those in these kind of games mean stuff like. Freeze, stun, paralyzed, Petrified, sleeping. Any of that sort.
Or it could also be a reference to maplestory speak back in the day. If you are at a map and someone annoying comes, you tell them to CC plz since you were there first, that means to 'change channels', so they can stay on the same map but just a different channel so you don't have to see their face

actually lancelot and lance are diffrent charcters, Lance first appreance was in Brawl royal as the second player and then in Epic battle fantasy 2 and so onward other then that he was never seen before
