    So glad I found this video, it has help me so much. I had a car accident 30 years ago that left me with nerve damage in my left leg and foot. After a number of operations, my left foot is a slightly smaller shoe size than my right. I had just bought a new pair of Scarpa boots, which felt fine in the shop, but after about an hours worth of walking were rubbing my right foot... on my bunion! Thought I was going to have to go another 1/2 size up which would have made the left boot way too big and just lead to blisters on my left heal( which I probably wouldn't feel, which is a constant and real problem for me), but this lacing trick has fixed the bunion rub. So thank you.

    My gosh! I have been hiking and wearing boots of all kinds (leather, mesh, combo of both)for years (decades really)! This is the first time I have ever watched someone not only instruct me on the proper way to lace a hiking boot...but how to deal with my bunions without having too wide of a boot everywhere else. I live in Utah and its ALL uphill and rocky, ha! Thanks, I'm happy to subscribe.

    I love hill walking but the most I could ever walk was about 8 miles and even then it was with some degree of discomfort. This lacing technique has been an absolute lifesaver for my feet! I have tried so many things and spent so much money trying to relieve my bunion but this totally worked - I have just completed the long distance Cumbria Way Walk over 6 days with no pain whatsoever !!! Thank you so much giving my feet a new lease of life and giving me the freedom to enjoy hill walking again.

    Wow! I just returned from the gym where I "hiked" 4 miles with my new boots on a treadmill. I have to make sure that they fit well before I commit to walking the Camino next Spring. And, I developed a "hot spot" on my bunion even though this is a wide fitting, flexible hiking boot. I came home, did a quick search on youtube and discovered this gem of a flic!!! Thank you! I just relaced my boots and feel instant relief! What a blessing as I could have gone down the rabbit hole chasing the perfect boot when, it's really a matter of lacing! And, thanks for the tips on proper heelcup fitting, how tight laces should be and simple, double knots to prevent laces becoming undone! Ever bit of your chat was worthwhile! Thank you & buen camino!!!

      Hello David, I’m a physiotherapist. Do you speak Spanish? I did a project about bunions.

    Excellent suggestion on how to prevent pressure on bunions. Thank you very much. Never seen that specific tying method before.

    Great idea, thanks. I have a trapped nerve on the top of my left foot, half way between where my ankle meets my leg and my third toe........ any pressure causes great pain....... any ideas about how a different way of lacing could help me? I am about to purchase a new pair of walking boots....

      We'd opt for a similar method above. Remove the laces and re-thread them missing out the eyelets surrounding your trapped nerve.

    Hi thanks so much for this video. I have a very large bunion and suffer pain from my second toe due to it having moved to an angle. Can you recommend and ladies round toe walking shoes which can accommodate this?

      Hi, thanks for watching and for your comments. This could well be the perfect boot for you...www.trekitt.co.uk/footwear/boots/hanwag-womens-alta-bunion-gtx-erde-brown__40432
      However, I would highly recommend that you get a professional boot fit before making any purchase. Paul.

      The theory will apply to every boot as long as they're laced.

    What if your boot only has 2 top eyelets instead of 4 such as your boot? I wear Keen Targhees.

    Bring along an extra foot bed with a higher arch support for downhill hiking. It must be full length of the shoe so it does not slid. First it will help keep your foot back in the shoe. Second your arch will take some extra force off the front of your foot. Third, bunions are made worse when the arch falls as body weight is passed from the back of the foot to the front. This causes torsion on the first big toe knuckle causing more bone to form on the this toe where it rubs on the second toe. This forces the whole big toe nuckel outward making the foot wider. Tight shoes make this worse. Once you find an arch support for flat ground that helps your bunion pain, use this for flat hiking, then get a higher one for downhill. I actually like to buy two stiff supports and glue in a soft pad at the arch on one for downhill. This can also calm planter fasciitis.

    Can't see the bunion part of the boot in the demo to see what you're doing!

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  3 роки тому

      There is no "bunion-part" of the boot. The lacing technique alleviates pressure across the lower part of the boot to reduce pressure on a bunion. Thanks for watching. Paul.
