- Sakurai has shown us that Super Smash Bros. defined the platform fighter genre and nobody else has come close in making their own clone as good as Super Smash Bros. However, Coney is here to debunk on whether the maker of Super Smash Bros. was right with some more of these character movesets. Did fans make the better Super Smash Bros. character? Or were they overzealous with their imagination while Sakurai perfected these characters?

What are some other fan-made movesets I should take a look at?
I think there’s a popular brawl mod that makes Ganon accurate to his series
Brawfan1 comes up with good custom movesets, not mods but still cool
Mega Man is in Smash Flash 2 and has a pretty cool move set that’s not at all like his official one.
Edit: make sure to watch the 0.9 version that was made before Smash 4. As of the latest update, he plays almost identically to how he does in Smash 4/Ult.

Rivals of Aether has a better donkey Kong than sakurai (alpharad used it in a few vids)
Coney should definitely take a look at the fan-made Ganondorfs that people have made, giving him his own unique movesets accurate to the games
Ganon would ironically be amazingly good offstage and far less gimpable if he had even just a temporary float (or float activating special) ala his Ocarina Boss fight. Even just changing Ganon’s Neutral B to allow him to float (somewhat like Peach) and throw a projectile as he charged it, that alone would make him a lot more interesting, let alone everything else

@@Diamond_Aura you should look at P+ Ganon he can float and has a cape. If you want an even more magical one there's a PM mod for Mage Ganon who is just the bossfight Ganon as a fighter tbh

While the Bowser Jr moveset made sense for the time those videos were released... the way Sakurai made Bowser Jr actually is more in line with how Jr is portrayed in later games.

The one thing I remember about fighting Ridley in Zero Mission was how he just came at you full force with no chill.
Most bosses are just a lot of waiting for weak point to be exposed, jumping around a lot, but Ridley just runs at you and tries to kill you faster than you kill him.
My ideal Ridley would be a pretty one who can just annihilate you if you sleep on him. Basically, a fast punching bag.

The geno mod also killed people at 30 with downthrow lazer lol. Its mad fun as a modded character. Only super broken thing is probably the lazer.
As a big fan of ridley I would vote two just for the down air alone, ridley in ultimate is great except he’s missing his iconic pogo tail duck tails attack that he’s had in like every boss fight since super Metroid. It’s iconic and instead he just falls down with his feet (definitely not mad that his down air sucks I swear it’s about the representation) perfect ending would be ultimate ridley with the fan made down air and eeeh y’know maybe a liiitle bit heavier like y’know a bit heavier then samus at least
Idk man rob is lighter than ridley and ridley is made of like just bones n shit

@@smollmoth6376 PM Ridley is fine now tbh, most of the stuff in the video has been toned down quite a bit, this video features a fairly old ridley, like at least 4 years. New ridley has the same moves but side b is not nearly as good because the mash is well balanced
I'm a beta tester for the Ridley moveset that got shown off in the video.
A lot has changed since the days of Legacy XP Ridley and the Ridley moveset that's rebalanced for P+EX.
Geno in PM is one of the most fun characters in PM, which was one of my biggest reasons for wanting him in the first place.
For the next episode I would recommend The Dook of Dorks, I haven’t watched his newer videos but he did a lot of this kind of thing in the past, and he likes to radically change the characters from how they appear in the game

My favorites of his are the videos he did on the Kongs, Peach, Daisy, Ganondorf &, in terms of those not in Smash yet, Rayman.

Ultimate Ridley with that fan videos Dair would be such a unique character. Being able to shark from above and set-up into aerial’s or side-b mixup would be so saucy.

Might be a hot take but while I do feel like they could have done more I feel like them making banjo relatively simple fits.
Bowser Jr is my favorite character in the whole game. I love him being in the clown car. I love hitting people with buzz saws and cannon balls and drills and etc etc. I'm so glad Sakurai didn't do any stupid paint brush garbage except for the final smash which doesn't matter
I mean. The paintbrush is by far what Bowser Jr is known for l. I'd rather have Shadow Mario than stupid clown car Jr, it's not even a funny clown car either it's just a boring moveset

@@illford he literally only uses the brush in Sunshine and spends the rest of the mainline series on the Clown Car.
I like that he represents the mech fighter archetype, but he could definitely get some more source accurate moves like his paintbrush swirl and ground pound from Bowser's fury

I’m loving this series! I truly feel Banjo did not receive the same amount of love that other dlc characters received. It could just be me and my bias, but like Coney said, Sakurai didn’t care

Been playing pm Ridley for years, can attest he’s busted as hell, but you CAN smash out of the command grab side b if you try fairly easily.
One thing doesn’t look like they touched on was his recovery though... if you hold in it’s like smash 4 meta knight up b, and if you hold out it’s like brawl meta knight up b. He goes so far lol
Ir's not that good of a recovery, good hitbox but he gets destroyed by anyone with a disjoint since a large amount of him is a hurtbox

I suspect in 5 or 6 years tops we'll have a small handful of overhaul mods that balance everything out, and at least 1 ProjectM style mod. Literally just a mod that makes platforms less whack would be golden.

After playing BOTW and Age of Calamity, I find it quite ironic that AOC!Calamity Ganon is a redheaded humanoid whose finishing Weak Point Smash resembles Flame Choke. Still doesn't change the fact that Ganondorf absolutely needs projectiles, his trident and kill throws in the next game.

That Geno trailer reminded me that back in the day people were all about Geno coming to smash. I have no clue where the Geno hate came from damn that Geno moveset is fucking fire. I genuinely am fine with the Mii Costume (wish it had a proper head model since it was already in Smash 4 and we had to wait til Sephiroth to get it back in Ultimate but whatever) but I still wish my beautiful bouncing baby boy was a fighter.
My comment might not make sense, but the fan-made movesets prove that you can't just put in any character in smash. You either have to nerf them so hard till they are trash characters, or you might make them so good the people will hate you for it. Sakurai tried to make these characters accurate to their games and all. Problem is in Sephiroth's case for example, He's so powerful even in his base form that Sakurai had to nerf him who knows how much to make Sephiroth the way he is in smash. But he is supposed to be making the moveset accurate. But he can't as Sephiroth would be too much to handle if the moveset was to be more accurate. Some of the fan-made movesets were more accurate. But they show how a character could just be too much. I blame the fans for wanting so many characters in Smash let alone any competitive game, even if the character would be too much to handle.
Def check out some of the rivals of aether reimaginings. Pit, Kirby, and Steve easily come to mind for me
I really wanna see PM Ganon, Wario, and Dedede.
PM Ganon can float, PM DDD is virtually the same except he can use waddle dees to wavedash in the air due to Brawl mechanics and Wario is Jiggs 2
Banjo:
We need more playstyle switch characters, think it'd be fun to implement a lot more of the moves and make the moveset potentially funner
Ridley:
Honestly just give him the Down Air instead of stub leg and he's golden
Bowser Jr.:
The Koopalings are not that necessary, it'd be funner if Baby Bowser just used paint brush, probably make him give different status effects based on paint or something
Geno:
Honestly at this point just scrap Mii variants, make their own unique Smash characters based off their best moves, and then make a final boss that's unique to smash playable (Like Seth where he just uses loads of different characters moves)
That Banjo Moveset look worse the longer it kept going.
I don't mind Banjo's Moveset in Ultimate I just wish it had better framedata to get more cool combos, the Banjo representation in Ultimate is surprisingly good if you think about it, I wish he got the flying mechanic, but the shockpad wasn't a bad replacement.
Iirc Geno has a mechanic where if you press the attack again for normals when they hit they do more damage/knockback

Banjo's Ultimate moveset is fine... it just wasn't balanced right. If he had better air speed to combo, if Kazooie's attacks actually killed and if Wonderwing was weaker but quicker, I'd think he wouldn't need a moveset overhaul
That banjo moveset powercreep is just to compete with Project M character powercreep.
The problem with B.Jr is he's Sunshine B.Jr he's just another koopa kid.

Shadow Mario is like an opposite of Mario, sort of like a doc situation. But instead of being slower and strong he’s even faster than regular Mario but does less damage

There's actually a really simple solution, just change the old character's moveset and bring back a type of character whose sole intention is to preserve the old moveset. For example you can change Mario to have a much better moveset and then just give the older one to Doctor Mario, or you can change up gandondorf and give black shadow the old move set since he's a big evil Captain Falcon rival.

Mario makes sense to be how he is. He's supposed to be the beginner character. Link could go either way, I actually prefer Twilight Link purely because in older games his bombs did crazy ass stuff. Samus in this game probably was made before Dread had finished or gotten close to finish hence why they didn't change her.
Game and Watch isn't actually that bad, it's just that Ult characters can't deal with a character like him. In every other game he's not an issue to this extent, Ultimate engine either buffed or nerfed your character and some had it better than others

i prefer the pm rid moveset just because he feels more aerial based, which is how ridley should be designed... BUT also very big
It's surprisingly well balanced since it's in Pm and PM is a fair amount more aggresive than Ult, he's also very fun. Newer ridley's have both Ult and PM Side B via command inputs so you can still use the Ult one. I recommend checking out PMEX Remix it's very fun

Ridley, We don't even need to look at fan movesets, any movesets are better than Sakurai. Truly seems like he never looked at a Ridley fight. Why is down B not pogo stick tail but something that literally never happened?
Rivals of aether just got four more characters, rollback, and new character art. Its not gonna "kill smash" but I think it can stand beside it now that the hype has died down.
Rivals is fun af competitively, which I can’t say about Ultimate. Kragg throwing boulders into airs is super fun. But the ness ripoff character is legit so annoying to fight against and most of the online players I fought spammed that shit.

Ultimate banjo is well made, he’s just in a game that makes him play lame. Like the moveset is right, it’s just he has poor frame data and attributes, additionally the game engine isn’t kind the slower characters, so he can’t be aggressive.

A while back I played Banjo Kazooie in smash and I had WAY more fun than I thought I would. Just give them another chance.
Sephi was robbed in the last one tbh, the PM mod you looked at was outdated and the newer Sephi mods (not based on Ult) are insanely good. And true to source material, which you seem on the fence about how important it is depending on the character.
edit: Ridley robbed too. The moveset is so much more practical, and this is also an older build. He's actually menacing in this game. I know we're not paying attention to model/animations/etc but at least this looks like Ridley. Why does Ult Ridley look like paper mache but they had his model right in the Subspace movies? This Ridley was done right smh chat sucks
