I *LOVE* that Adam pointed out that the librarian was never actually caught. They ran away and there she stayed.
I also loved how they cut from Jay's facial response from that and then immediately cuts to the lion statue 🤣🤣
Dan Aykroyd’s original script for ghostbusters was for a company of paranormal experts that you could call up like you would call plumbers- ghosts were an accepted part of the world and dealing with them was a regular 9-5 job. Reitman and Ramis came in to re-write and they thought it was better to build up to that and see the guys start that business. With Afterlife and this it feels like we’re getting closer to Dan’s original pitch and I love that. Love that he’s still a part of it! I liked this movie I hope there are more
And he wrote it with John Belushi in mind for Venkman
People calling this slow don't seem to remember the original movie was also slow. SLOW IS NOT A BAD WORD.
But the original was never boring at any point. There’s a difference.
I love this movie. It honestly baffles me how much people I’ve seen seem to hate it. It’s pretty clear this new series is striking a different tone and I’m ok with that. I hope it managed enough interest to at least give us a trilogy and maybe finish out the old guys story on a high note.
It was great! It people who are too precious with the property and will never accept anything but the original.
People just like to complain. Great Ghostbusters movie for the new and old generations.
The big bad was defeated too easily!
We really need to get back to a place where people just want fun movies, every movie doesnt have to be Endgame.
This year, the movie that hit just the right spot was Twisters. Everything required for a perfect popcorn movie.
Agreed
All movies need to be great
This was super fun! It *was* a B movie, but so was the original Ghostbusters! People always forget that. None of our nostalgic favs were blockbusters, they were just fun and we fell in love with them as kids so we attached this massive weight to the movie. But it was just cheeseball stuff. We gotta let it be cheeseball stuff, that's what made them great. I'm so here for bringing back fun, well-written comedy adventure, popcorn movies.
It was very great that the original characters were in this a little more than the previous film and getting to see them with the new generation characters from Afterlife a lot
Afterlife and Frozen Empire added so much lore to Ghosbusters to give it a breath of new life to the franchise. Also, I prefer the puffy over the crunchy Cheetos.
I saw this in theaters and loved it. I think the problem was that a lot of people wanted it to be on the same level as Afterlife when it didn't need to be. This was a great follow up to that movie and did a great job telling a stort centered around a new and original villain. My only complaint is that we didn't get a cameo from Rick Moranis as Lewis Tully(but I completely understand why it didn't happen).
Super fun watching this with you guys! Being a HUGE ghostbusters nerd this was a treat. I will say tho that the big bad of the first movie was technically Gozer rather than Zuul 😊
It was intentional that it felt like the cartoon, Gil and Jason loved it and wanted to bring elements in to the movies.
Fun fact, when they built the firehouse set, every floor and ceiling has a large bit of different flooring and tiles due to the explosion in '84. Not really seen on screen but a great bit of detail. 🚫👻
Your reaction is the EXACT reaction that my wife and I had. We absolutely love this movie, even though it isn't perfect, and we want to see much more of this expanded universe.
its just FUN what more do you need?
Why don't they cast someone as dana's son Oscar as an adult? If he was raised by Venkman, he could be a new fun character.
Kumail Nanjiani using his fire powers in the final battle was definitely one of my favorite scenes of this‼️🔥
I grew up in the 80s loving the first two Ghostbusters films and the Real Ghostbusters cartoon. I had all of the toys, the slime, the toy proton packs and traps, the cereal...you name it. This movie and "Afterlife" both captured the spirit (pun intended) of the original films, IMO. I hope they continue to make more! I did see this in the theater and it was amazing. The only thing I missed was Sigourney Weaver and Rick Moranis.
Had a blast watching this on the opening day as it was my first Ghostbusters film I saw in theaters‼️👻
I think the first half of the movie was stronger than the last half but I still liked it. Wouldn’t mind more movies at all.
I’ve been waiting to watch this with somebody I like and you two have made my night! I’m here to be surprised with you!
31:34 love how Jay's facial response after that and it immediately cuts to the lion statue
I love the ghost science lore this movie goes into. It was my favorite part of the original films
It's nice to see people who are actually excited about the lore expansion instead of complaining about the "disjointed story"
Not a single new ghostbuster film can capture the magic of 1984. Not even the sequel. If I get the B/same grade as the old cartoon for me-then I am all in!
I was also convinced that the tiny cute spirit was trying to help the whole movie, was really disappointed when nothing came of it. Now i think thats what was intended originally, but the payoff and reveal for it got cut for time.
I know it's the kind of thing we never get with these franchises, but I really do think people would pay to just see "Adventure of the week" flicks with the Ghostbusters. Don't need the epic scenes and high stakes.
I'm basically asking for the movies to be more like the cartoons, or a TV show, but I've made peace with that.
For sure. The cartoon had plenty of great stories. The movies could be sorta like the Fast franchise but with actors. A big movie every few years with some core characters and a rotating cast. Have your Worldender Bigbad of the week. Boom. The fans are happy.
I absolutely love this movie, just like Afterlife It really feels like an 80s movie, with the themes it explores and taking its time to get there. Another proof that you can't trust critics. I should have watched this in the theater.
I had fun. It's ok for movies to just be fun! Also I really think this would make a great TV series. Ghost of the week with a build up to big bad at the end of the season. I would watch the heck out of a show like that. We need more of those again.
That's exactly how I felt when I watched it, I was just here for the fun, and this movie had fun in spades. 😊
It wasn't a "slam-dunk," but it was a solid "lay-up."
I now wish I lived in the Ghostbuster's Universe just so I could have a pet mini-stay puft marsmellow man, tho to be fair, you need at least 3 or 4 of them so they can play together. Keep them in one of those containment rooms, but its just like an aquarium size... would be awesome
I love this movie. You’re absolutely right, we gotta learn to be okay with movies that are just good. This isn’t nearly as good as the originals, probably not even as good as Afterlife. But it’s still so damn much fun. And that’s okay!
Afterlife was the movie that got me back into the theatres, I hadn't been to the movies in close to three years at that point. I went to see this one in theatres and some parts didn't connect for me but I really appreciate it and want more. I'm ready to get like an 8 to 10 episode season every few years or a movie every other year.
I feel like Afterlife was just a love letter and partial apology for what they had been doing with the series up to that point and then this one was a solid entry that grew the lore and established what it could be. The kids are somewhat in there awkward teen phases, by the time they're older and we've spent the time to care about them we can get some really great stories. Really does feel like they're setting up this universe to lean into the staying power.
If we're still here watching it and talking about it 40 years later, yeah. Just keep pushing. We'll be at half a century of Ghostbuster before you know it.
excellent reaction, everything you say is true, the movie is fun and I could see more of this, love from Argentina ❤
I just watched this the other night and I was a little upset that I didn't go see this in theaters. This is such a great film.
busting makes Jay feel good
that was goddamn entertaining!
Honestly? 3rd fav Ghostbuster movie. Liked Afterlife more but still a fun movie
Man Jay and Paul Rudd are cut from the same cloth I swear lol
If you guys haven’t watched it, I recommend doing one of these movie reacts to Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare
It’s another really fun ride that failed to make a splash
Im with Jay, someone needs to make an open world Ghostbusters game with research, upgrades and new weapons and differing tactics for different classes of ghosts etc..
It feels like that Paul Rudd scream at the end was unscripted 😂
re: open world ghostbusters, they could literally copy new york from the spiderman games, and add in ghostbusters specific details. have random ghost generators that can spawn anywhere in the city. spot-on with having tech trees and mods for gear. have a multiplayer that's basically dead by daylight, but the survivors have ghostbusting equipment
I chalk up the lack of fun stuff to the hyperbolic internet age. Everything has to be either great or bad, because middle of the road, fun stuff doesn't drive the algorithm. John Candy made an entire career of infinitely watchable, fun movies. Will your life be forever changed by Who's Harry Crumb?, The Great Outdoors, or Delirious? Probably not, but an hour and a half spent smiling is a pretty damn good way to pass the time.
They should’ve had arnold play the villain hahaha
As an overall movie: 7/10
As a Ghostbusters movie: 10/10
I'm sure I've said this on this channel before, but my brother and I worked on Ghostbusters Afterlife (I did like three days, he was a big dog behind behind the scenes ). My little bro straight up drove the Ecto-1. So the question is, what are the most iconic vehicles in film? I'll start: 1) Millennium Falcon; 2) Batmobile; 3) Ecto-1; 4) The DeLorean; 5) The Enterprise. Roast me in the comments!
EDIT: And try to guess how old I am!
Am I wrong or right? The fire station in the opening sequence.. Is *THE* fire house?
Thanks guys. I agree with your review. There was quite a bit of backlash from the Maga right because of Phoebe's friendship with Melody accusing the film of them having a woke lesbian relationship. I think Phoebe was feeling rejected by her family and the Ghostbusters and she met someone who was interesting and good at Chess. I doing think it was anything other than a friendship
I think part of the reason there’s so much mishugas about these movies is that there are 2 distinct groups of GB fans; the ones who loved the original movie, and the one who grew up on the Cartoon Series; the movie and the series were two completely different worlds, and I think this movie does a good job of bringing those worlds together; a lot of fans still want the dark, kinda cynical take of the first movie, which they got the ONE TIME and never got again; mainly because nobody, not even the people who made the movie, knows how it managed to happen, in the first place; GHOSTBUSTERS, as an IP, has been like this for most of it’s history; the movie is really kind of an outlier; I’d LOVE it if Sony got the rights to the Original Filmation Ghostbusters, and folded them into the mix, somehow, because they’ve just opened that door…
Open World Ghost Busters Game, YES. I wanna play as the new busters, I wanna play as the old busters. They can include a character creator so we can make ourselves into Ghost Busters. Busting just feels good. I love this movie, it’s like pizza. Sometimes it’s incredible, and sometimes it just hits the spot and is great.
Also, the ancient busters are pokeball wielding fire benders, and Phoebe called Grooberson dad at the end. Its everything it needed to be.
This movie is the reason I don't like going to the movies when there are more than 10 people. Loved the movie, disappointed by the nearly packed theaters' reaction.
I think crowds are the ones that want everything to be Endgame.
Is there a Ghostbusters pen and paper rpg? Because after seeing this movie, that's what I need. That, and an open world Ghostbusters video game.
This movie would’ve been worth it for Paul Rudd alone but it was also good outside of that IMO
Did you guys ever play that ghostbuster game that came out 15 years ago? It was created to be ghostbusters 3 since they didn't think they were gonna make more movies. It's actually pretty fun and they "remastered " it for next gen consoles.
Imho this didnt neccessarily feel like a big/epic Ghostbusters movie, but more like part of The Real Ghostbusters cartoon series, which didnt hit the same tone, but was also a great Ghostbusters content in its own right!
May I suggest the time honored tradition of asking followers to post FAKE spoilers int he comments? I've seen that on a few channels I now and it's fun and 'engaging'
EDIT: Also I have to say, final boss is definitely Ice/Ghost type
The sequel to this should really be a John Hughes teenage bonding movie dealing with growing up in a post-ghost world.
Yay, you got the vid back up. Well done
I think that a lot of the problem for the people who didn't much like it is less about the film and more that they're not a teenager again.
I need to know where Adam buys his shirts.
jay there were 2 lions at the library
There's a German game called "Ghost Control Inc." on Steam. It's old and unlicensed, but it let's you manage your own little ghostbusting operation.
Sky Gyarados? So a normal Gyarados then.
Ok Ghostbusters? Here we go again!
Watch out for new deadpool advertisements, they are FULL of spoilers
I enjoyed the movie more this second time watching it with you, but i thought it was a solid effort on my first watch. In the major showdown in the end, I kept wondering where Acaster was, expecting him to pop up when it looked the worst to help, but then he didn't show until after it was all over. the joke of him missing everything wasn't bad, i was just distracted during that last bit since i noticed he was gone. i could appreciate the last bit more on a rewatch bc of that.
If I make it as an actor i promise to come back here and personally thank you for watching my film. Whenever that may be
This movie delivered everything we all wanted, but not at the quality of Afterlife, which is the only bummer.
Like afterlife raised the bar higher than this movie reached. But it's more ghostbusters, ands that's all we want
spoiler for deadpool and wolverine: busting makes me feel good 🙌🏾
Adam had never had a Cheeto in his life?!! Sir, what?!
I have only just watched this too and as a massive fan I was a little flat after watching. However after a second watch and also your reaction I feel warmer towards it. Ok IS fine. We need more Saturday afternoon put it on TV family films and this is it.
Also when did films stop having soundtracks instead of having a score? Part of what made the original great was the soundtrack. We need more ‘Cleanin’ Up The Town’ blasting out!
Thanks to Jay and Adam! 👻
I’m not saying this is a spoiler, but what if one the p’Reviewed team makes a brief background cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine and the other one did not know this. Their reaction to the film will be fun! 😈😂
27:07 shots fired at Crowder and Ben Shapiro, maybe Nerdrotic and his Fandom menace 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
You guys should play spirits unleashed
I really really like this movie. It's very entertaining and fun, which is what a good movie should be IMO. I want to watch more movies like this one! Ghostbusters are supposed to be fun, right?! 👻
I was put off by the trailer for some reason. I liked the last one and watched this because I saw your reaction thumbnail. I did like it and agree with pretty much everything you said.
Pretty sure that's Vecna 40:01
That's not how single quotation marks are used.
It’s brilliant
I'm a little annoyed that the implied sapphic romance never went past implied. Ah well.
Not that everyone is chomping at the bit to hear my take, but... I like a lot of the stuff in this movie, but the pacing and flow was disjointed and distracting. I think they should have tried to trim it down to a more focused 90 min movie.
As it was, a lot of the characters just felt... extraneous.
Or maybe keep it this length but rotate more to give the side characters more to do.
Ha ha Sony. I watched it before you struck it. 😅😂
Only Complaints: too many characters and no Ray Parker junior to open the movie with that title card. Other then that people are just bitching because they see rotten tomatoes and other people bitching
It was meh for me. Felt rushed with the ghost girl stuff
I think the original ghostbusters was a B movie the time it came out. I think this was for the fan group that loves this type, it needed to be goofy and weird and I guess campy. It is true ghostbusters though and I loved it
You should review the Ghostbusters cartoon series.
Then maybe the other movie Ghostbusters with the gorrilla and rheir tv series
What if we had like one GB NY one movie, GB NJ IN A NOTHER..and sprinkle a small mcmuffin in each movie that by the 6th movie its some big bag in Peru or Mexico and they are soo bad all the usgb have to fly in to help bust some ginormus demon
You guys are doing these strange thumbnail captions on purpose lmao
The peanut gallery...............really? That's funny.
😄
I saw it in theaters and was a little a little disappointed the majority of M Graces character time was about how she wasn't allowed to be a ghost buster, and then we have a rushed 'kindred spirits' thing with the 'little matchstick girl'. while we gave maybe too much time to the bumbling fire bender. but you guys being enthusiastic and enjoying it has made me see it in a less critical way. it's a good 'episode' of ghostbusters with worldbuilding and lore expansion, it doesn't have to be a 'blockbuster' movie. in fact trying to make blockbusters could be trying too hard, and not letting it just be what it is... Ghostbusters.
I remeber this being horrid. hummm tryign to remember
Deadpool and Wolverine has
.
.
.
.
.
.
an ending. 🤣
❤✌️
One of my biggest gripes of this , is trailers hyped so much the freezing of New York yet , it lasted only 15-10 minutes … 😒
Like this needed a tighter narrative just too many characters & subplots
It’s fun but there’s a lot of fat that could be cut from this. Even my kid got bored in the middle. Shame because it’s a big improvement and there’s a lot to like.
They already cut a lot a scenes out
@@chalmers1984 that actually doesn’t invalidate anything I said…
Adam is totally right, we don't need the original cast anymore. I think it's completely fine if Winston and Ray show up now and then since they have an actual role to play (Winston being the boss and Ray some sort of advisor), together with Venkman they could also act as some sort of substitute grandfathers to Phoebe and Trevor. But if it comes to the action part they shouldn't be active members. I love Bill Murray but he felt a little misplaced in this movie.
I really enjoyed both movies I just wish they would have had a different person play Phoebe's mom. I just didn't like her in either of the movies. She is a horrible mom. Just my personal opinion nothing more nothing less.
Oh man the text in that thimbnail 🤢
wut?
