For a long time, I've been meaning to sit down and read the original comics of John Constantine: Hellblazer. So I did. And this is that story.
John Constantine is one of my favorite comic book characters.
I love Constatine and Swamp Thing stories. They are BFF's. I don't care what anyone says. haha John is one of my favorite comic characters...if not my favorite. He's the worst. He's the best. I love, love, LOVE how introspective Hellblazer is.
It's a damn shame that Hellblazer is coming to an end at issue 300 due to DC comics making terrible decisions. The longest running series, and a Vertigo title, being a flagship for great gothic horror stories.
I followed the character since his initial appearance in Swamp Thing #37, so I have the entire run of the series as well. The quality of writing has always been excellent.
Alan Moore has pronounced Constantine "Constantyne". Garth Ennis has pronounced it "Constantyne". Andy Diggle has pronounced it "Constantyne". Simon Bisley has pronounced it "Constantyne". It's an English way of pronouncing the name. A very popular mistake.
Just got the Hellblazer by Garth Ennis Omnibus. Its such a great run.

Not trying to be a dick (I promise!), but that one person and DrWhoDamien are right. Maybe all of the American (and Canadian?) people who worked on the Hellblazer comics and the Constantine movie pronounce it the way you do, but the character Constantine is English (like I have to tell you), and English people pronounce it Constantine (rhymes with line).......I don't think it really matters how you say it though, I know who the fuck you're talking about (making my comment null and void lol)

Just chipping in - John himself says it's 'Constantyne' in the early comics.
Guy's all buttmad because people don't pronounce his name right. i say "Constant-een" that must surely mean i'm not a "real fan" don't let something like that get you worked up man, just read the series and enjoy the fact that the series was one of the most successful horror graphic novels out there... don't be mad because i called it a "graphic novel" and not 'comic book' ta
It's a Brit thing. They also pronounce Emperor Constantine that way. Apparently somewhere in the comics John corrects the pronunciation to the Brit version (of course) so it's canon I guess.

Speaking of Swamp Thing, have you seen Alan Moores Superman/Swamp Thing crossover? Its pretty excellent and I'm not sure if its included in the Swamp Thing trades.
If there's one comic anyone reads this year , it's SAGA !! I'm sure many would vouch for me whose read it. It's like early Heavy Metal magazine. It's only 5 issues in , so catching up shouldn't be difficult
weird..i have that same Sandman Preludes and Nocturnes volume, got it when i was a kid, and also read both that and Swamp Thing with Alan Moore writing, but for some dumb reason it took me years to finally get into Hellblazer, well last year was when, which is ridiculous but I guess i didnt know itd be as awesome as it is!
Is this actually the first comic of Hellblazer or does it go further back? I've been wanting to read the series but not sure where to start. Let me know please.
Sorry for being too belligerent. Its just that in the comic book community it ain't cool to mispronounce his name. The movie sucked balls to most of us afficianados because of its "Americanization". And the name isn't an exception. People, even Alan Morre, the one who created Constantine, always tells people to pronounce it right. And for a damn good reason too. Remember that time when Captain Marvell was suddenly has his name changed to Shazam, and this destroyed this character since New 52

Theres a Hellblazer Webseries that is currently being funded you can go to Kickstarter and search Hellblazer its pretty sweet what they have so far. Ive already donated hope to see the finished product.
eh actually no. For some people who obviously dont know comics they tend to mispronounce John's names and other names in the comic book industry like Mr. Zsaz and Myzptlk. Its funny how non comic book afficionados try to pass themselves as such MISERABLY

Bought a copy of Original Sins years ago - absolutely great read. Still keep going back to it on rainy nights. My only annoyance with it was the abrupt cliffhanger ending - but I'm guessing the inclusion of the Swamp Thing stories in that re-print solves that plot point. Will need to get hold of that!
I'm a big fan of Doctor Who as well. Tom Baker is my favorite. I also noticed a lot of British writers and artists worked on that comic strip in the magazine: Grant Morrison, Jamie Delano, John Ridgeway, Steve Dillon and many others who are well known nowadays. Many of them moved on to Hellblazer as well.
