    Looks like you have under burn. When priming the stove you should let the primer flame burn completely out then turn the stove back on and light the burner head.

    It does LOOK like underburn. And I’m not absolutely claiming I’m right on this: I don’t think so. I did light it as you suggested (and I paid attention to that in Bernie Dawg’s videos).
    I did experience underburn once in that setup. The combustion sound is profoundly different with underburn.
    The red hot burner cap perturbs me and I would like to understand that better.
    I appreciate any suggestions on this. Thanks.

    why cant i find a cheap $49 thing that will burn diesel...

      lez briddon (1): Diesel is difficult to vaporize and that has to happen for a stove to be practical. (2) market demand for such a thing seems low. Look at the proliferation of compressed-gas canister stoves on the market. Good luck on your quest.
