- Dynamic music systems are the coolest shit, so when it was announced for DMC5 I was extremely excited to get my hands and test it out myself. I couldn't find any other videos on it, so here's a thorough breakdown of how the game cut and loops the various pieces of Devil Trigger during combat. I'd like to do Dante and V's themes too when the game finally comes out!

Tim Loth i know right? Ive been waiting for 10 years for this game and my expectations were extremely high and still exceeded them. This Devil May Cry is all I ever wanted after I finished DMC 3
@@Jefstito it is amazing but i just don't really like Nero in this game, i loved him in 4 thought, but Dante on the other way is what makes this game so amazing for me, he's so well done it's just crazy he's basicaly perfect best Dante ever in all Dmc he's so fun to play and very strong and versatile.
Davolthe i agree 100%. Dante is too much fun and strong, you feel like a god when playing him. But you had that feeling with Nero since the beginning of the game? Because once you get his DT he plays pretty much exactly like in 4 but with even more options thanks to the arms. The one thing I didnt like about Nero in 4 was that, besides the exceed system, there wasnt anything difficult to master. In this game he has too many things going for him. Do you think that maybe you like him less because Dante overshadows him (and anyone really)?
@@Jefstito Y Dante definitely overshadows Nero and i like that abit but idk Nero feels boring to play after playing Dante, on begining Nero is good as it's whole new system hence it's interesting but after Dante i just can't get into Nero even with hand he grows, that wasn't case in 4 for me he's actually felt bit better than Dante in 4 wich is weird bcs they are theoreticaly same once u get devil bringer but still something feels diferent compared to 4 idk. Maybe i just got much better with Dante style changer in 5 since i didn't like it in 4 bcs i was so used to dmc3 Dante and i almost only used one style in dmc4 wich is not really how you should play this Dante. All in all Nero just feels limited for me in Dmc 5.
@@davolthe1261 Gotcha, I think you and I had almost the same experience, except that I suffer exactly what you are saying when playing 4 for the second time around (with the special edition) when I started using all of Dante's arsenal. I think Nero is bound to feel that way as long as Dante exists, but I would blame that on the fact that Dante is probably the most complete action hero in any videogame. Even Bayonetta feels dull compare to him.
It's essentially the exact same as Killer Instinct's dynamic music system.
Both Casey Edwards and Ali Edwards worked with Mick Gordon for KI so I can see where the inspiration came from :)
Pretty much, though I feel I should point out that KI2013 wasn't the first to do this. The level themes in Phantasy Star Online had 2 versions that alternated depend on if you were in battle or not, and Mystic Mansion from Sonic Heroes had 5 different parts depending on where you were in the level.
They worked with Mick Gordon, damn, after his work on DOOM he is basically God.

Metal gear revengeance has that as well. Instrumental only during a boss fight until their health bar is low then we hear the vocals and the final fight you only hear the vocals when you’re holding the sword

Nice breakdown! I was kinda hoping you stayed a bit more inside A rank. There's a cool part that happened once in my game where aside from the drums and build-up, there was the female vocals kicking in and out of the song randomly before it looped back into the verse part. Seems like there's a lot more permutations into how the dynamic music works here depending on the player. I've reached S rank a few times yet I've never heard of "A-a-a-a-All of this thoughts" in my game and I've only heard it here.
yeah there's definitely a bit more to it than just what I was able to get here! it seems like there's a few different transitions when going from A to S-rank. i assume it's randomly decided like the way the game picks a verse as you go through D to B-rank.

This is nice,at least not everyone MUST needs to get SSS to hear the complete song and getting S is quite easy and fun tooo.Maintaining SS and SSS is the tricky part which requires you to be as stylish as possible.

Vergil's Disciple well that would kind of explain why I can’t keep it, my hands start to hurt from getting combos and trying to keep SSS rank. Yeah, this is my true first DMC game, and I feel a little ashamed about that since I’m having so much damn fun.
@@DaFro3713 don't be ashamed of playing a game you like or how you play it compared to pros. Part of dmc is learning how to put your own style into the game
It's taken me this long to realize that the graphic around the ranking letter pulses to the music. Not only that, it responds dynamically, so it's gotta be a little equalizer. They really didn't have to do that!
I've had a bug and my music didn't play. Equalizer showed no pulses too!
As both a music lover and a DMC fan I love this vid~ The song "Devil Trigger" is already good, and the way it was used in game was even better~ Props for uploading this; I now have a greater appreciation for the song ~ 😃

Fantastic breakdown video! It's so nice to see how far we have come in terms of these systems. I remember my first exposure to dynamic music from SSX(PS2 '00) with your trick meter, and then The Matrix Online in '05. A recent game, Remember Me, had a combo driven soundtrack, but it was nowhere as robust as the one in DMC5.

Nobody asked for this but I'm so damn happy that people pay this much attention to the little details. Added another layer of love for this game or franchise in general. Can't wait to see V's crimson cloud is a fucking bop!

i checked another upload of mine - near the end of this it played the "When the night ends" section when I was only at an S rank, but i'm not sure if the trigger for that was hitting SS before or if it's just random.
If you want a quick way to experience this, start playing bloody palace. The songs will be all over the place in such a good way

The only difference is this song has more of a pop/rock style, while bury the light is metal, the system works exactly the same for both, however.

You can max act with it and it's awesome.
Oh, so it only goes until S rank, huh? I kept S and SS rank constantly unless the enemies were too easy to kill, so I never really saw the big difference (except a few bosses that I really couldn't handle without just having no rank).

Metal Gear Rising:Revengeance did it first.
Not really, A Soul Can't Be Cut only alternated between intrumentals only and vocals when you had full blade mode bar, it was a much simpler affair, just two layers alternating between one another with a condition is met which wasn't even dependent on your performance. This is much more complex, whole different loops depending on the three stages of the fight (battle hasn't started yet, pre s rank and post s rank) and fade ins and outs between phases plus transitions, it's a whole different beast.

I think this song really goes well with Nero, and subhuman goes perfect with Dante, I understand dmc 3 music is awesome and dmc is alright, but the songs just feel perfect and when you’re fighting and chaining badass combos with the song getting more intense as you go just makes it feel amazing, Dante always had that metal rock feel from almost all devil may cry’s and Nero always had the more playful and catchy music. Idk just what I think tho

@@loxzone1 I love you. finally someone who shares the same opinion about how not DMC this music is.I only get salt and abuse whenever i say that. Fanboys dont judge it accordingly, they are too attached to the series and too biased so they subconsciously make themselves like it or else, which i think is worse, are massive anime fans and because of that this type of music clicks with them, making them forget and lose sight of the tone that DMC originally had. Thats the problem with over-zealous weebs. They create a fanfic anime attitude towards something they like and the developers have to cater to that and have to compromise their creative vision so that they can appease this anime obsession and the games' tone changes completely. Its why itsuno wanted the reboot and wanted to make a sequel to it instead of dmc 5. DMC has gone from mean serious demon slaying fuck you badassness with instrumental guitar tracks to self-indulgent anime fanfiction family drama pop cringefest because of it. This song reflects that completely. Its a general problem in the japanese video games industry. Its a catchy enough song but its way too campy and is completely off, like you said, and creates a contrast in tone which is really jarring and off putting. I changed Nero's battle music to subhuman as soon as I first put the disc in my ps4. Subhuman is far from a classic but damn does it suit the gameplay and tone of the game more. I feel like a demon slayer with subhuman, instead of a bloody power ranger or pokemon trainer with devil trigger. Taste is subjective, but integrity is not. Developers should stick with what they want to do.
