Who was Luke in the Bible? Good question! We don’t know very much about Luke, but his contribution to the Church was significant. He is only mentioned by name 3 times in the New Testament (Col 4:14, 2 Tim 4:11, and Phm 1:24). He was a doctor by trade. In Colossians 4:10-14, Paul referred to him as the “beloved physician.”

This is very interesting. I just started reading the Bible not that long ago and it can be confusing at times. It’s nice to learn who the people were who wrote it.

I have prayerfully studied and continue to study Luke, and I am convinced that he was indeed Jewish. As Paul was a Roman Jew, Luke was a Greek or Hellanist Jew, who I believe also wrote Hebrews.
Paul tells us in Romans 3:1-2 that the oracles of God were given to the Jews, so no gentile wrote scripture.
The Council of Jerusalem in Acts 15 was convened to deal with, "... some who went out from us, " because they insisted, "you must be circumcised and keep the law." Acts 15:24.
I am reliably informed that the Greek in both Galatians 2:12 and Colossians 4:11 would be more accurately translated as, "the Circumcision Group". It would seem that the omission of this one word in English translations has added to the misconception that this was merely a description of Jews, despite the fact that it states plainly in Galatians 2:11-13 that 'those of the Circumcision' were 'Judaizers', and not specifically Jews as noted by verse 13 "... and the rest of the Jews" which, distinguishes them from merely being Jewish . In fact in Galatians, Paul was calling out Peter for being a hypocrite because he had been corrected on this issue in a dream.
Obviously, take this information prayerfully, but I believe this is the correct scriptural understanding, as referenced. God bless.
