Iron Awe has the unfortunate notability of being the robot that was in fights against Typhoon 2 when it first spun up to full speed and against Wheely Big Cheese when it first used its flipper at full pressure. Neither of those really worked out for poor old Iron Awe.
Lets face it Hypnodisc was strong in season 3+4 as a result of other robots not considering armour a priority. Typhoon 2 was so powerful that even reasonably well armoured robots could be smashed through.
Not being able to get through tough armour was never Hypnodisc's issue. It was always let down by reliability, and some questionable driving at times that exposed Hypnodisc's own weaknesses to attacks.
@@MMR_LM Hypnodisc was internally wrecked by the end of S3 and was in no condition to fight Chaos 2. Had it been in full working condition Chaos 2 would have struggled to get a proper flip in.
Typhoon 2 is one ingenious design. High manueverability, a nearly indestructible steel cone with nothing to catch, a low ground clearance making it hard to get under, a low center of gravity, and an angled face for flipping all the way around all the time. Those menacing blades, and that *incredible* kinetic energy that will render electronics useless through massive shock loads make it nearly unbeatable except through sheer luck of it bouncing off of a competitor into the pit.
It's design was a major weakness in my opinion. Had its opponents been more savvy it wouldn't have got to the final or even out the heats. It was so lucky in a lot of its fights. In fact I think Tornado would have beat them,, Storm 2s team for all their intelligence and ability didn't do the obvious of driving it into the house bots enough.
Little did anyone know when the Series 7 Grand Final was broadcasted, was that, about 12 years later, Gary Cairns would enter Series 8 with his own robot, PP3D, although that robot has no connection whatsoever, to Typhoon 2
I Think the advantage is: Shortly before Hitting they throttle down and the centrifugal clutch disengages. Also it allows for a "Slipping", which protects the engine from dying. Typhoon 2 is one of the few "Shellspinners" which actually won fights. The clutch is the deal, when you apply it to a bar spinner a tearing chain isn't as much as a problem as it is with most the spinners. Because then you only must catch the impact force with structural integrity, not bring the Chain or the belt to a sudden stop. This robot isn't very careful to the other bots, but when i imagine Mega or Gigabyte, they propelled themself trough the whole arena, they weren't very reliable and the impact threw the Mega/Gigabyte around the whole arena. I like the robot, a "different" thing. Specially with it's very slow spin-up time. Against a "Tombstone" the robot won't win, because Tombstone is a well built and tested machine with very less failures and a significantly lower Spin up time, also more Stored energy with the different blades.
Well said, and I agree entirely. Plus there’s an awful lot of energy in the mass of that armored shell when it gets spun up to speed, allowing for devastating damage to be imparted through those teeth, even against decently armored opponents. It’s spin up time is it’s biggest weakness.
Many other robots with spinners have damaged the arena walls as well. But Typhoon 2 is obviously the one spinner to cause serious damage to the arena. I think The Revolutionist has met its match.
The unofficial Successor to the legendary Hypnodisc. To the point it was smashing through arena walls for fun. Derek: They keep breaking my stage! It's terrible aren't they!
The Typhoon series are complete brutes!!! I love watching them wreaking havoc. Real glad that they won over Storm II due to the damage, but I do believe that Storm II had the upper hand in the final match; if only measures were made to improve the stability when the outer cone isn't rotating fast enough.
Storm 2 should have won, making damage the final deciding factor isn't fair when it's a flipping robot. They were so much more aggressive and got them up and over so many more times.
Of course, the flipside (no pun intended!) of that is that flippers could end fights instantly with an out-of-the-arena flip. I do think Storm 2 were at the very least unlucky - I'm glad I wasn't judging that.
Typhoon 2, named after one of the best 4++ Generation fighters/multirole jets in the world today and certainly the destructive power as well as agility was just like our jet but purely on wheels!
You know I absolutely love Typhoon 2, the design, the devastating cutters. I do think that the final between Storm 2 was I don't know hit and miss for the win. Storm 2 were showing more control and aggression but Typhoon 2 I think did the damage, I wonder if that is what it came to. Great robot!! Well clever design
Looking back at this grand final I think the decision was pretty fair storm 2 perused him but he never really slammed typhoon or did anything outside of lift them up a little. Typhoon was hitting and running and I think The broken wedge At the very end made the difference
Atomic had the best shot at taking out Typhoon, had their flipper not malfunctioned we could well have seen them in the final, and I think Typhoon were extremely lucky to get through.
Atomic's team got extremely unlucky, they practically knocked out themselves. Typhoon 2 did nothing except ran away. Not saying Typhoon 2 did bad but I thinks Typhoon 2 is much like Nuts 2: Their success more on luck than actual skill though I must say Typhoon 2 is better design and able do more damage where Nuts 2 more like joke bot with an ability to disable opponent.
late reply I know but the reason is that in the old series once you lost you where out, you had no more fights to do, it was go home and come back next year. in the new series you where often guaranteed to have more fights through the round robin or the double elimination style in series 10. put simply you can spray a robot all over the floor because they have only 2 hours to get it back together.
all they got to do is put in a gyro system and that thing wont ever flip over. me i prob would use four high speed blade spinning on all for side and have it also spinning aswell on the shell with blades that way even if the bot lose it spin the blades will still spin on the sides
yea it seemed to me that Storm 2 managed to deactivate Typhoon 2's blades towards the end which, if that was the case, should have DEFINITELY been worth more than a small plate falling off of Storm, so idk.
Well not necessarily didn't deserve. Both of the finalists were excellent bots. They both deserved that title, it just got handed to the one that arguably was struggling the most, which was unfair by my reckoning.
One thing I've always wondered is how do the drivers know which way they are facing when they're driving? It looks like it would be quite easy to accidentally drive Typhoon 2 the wrong way since there's no "front" of the robot does that makes sense?
Well given that Typhoon has four independent wheels I don't think That's as much of an issue, and the flag on the top might also be a.dorectional indicator
Whilst I disagree with the judges allowing Team Typhoon to tinker with their machine during the stoppage in the grand final. My own scoring of the match has Typhoon as the winner anyway so I think that win is deserved
I wonder if Bigger Brother would have beaten Typhoon 2 had they won their match against Iron Awe. They managed to survive both Mauler and Hypnodisc, so who knows?
@@GreeneyedApe as long as the horizontal one is low enough, height doesnt really matter. The goal is mostly to take out wheels, which have to touch the ground lol

Storm 2 clearly should have won the final battle. Allowing typhoon to spin to full speed before restarting the fight seems very unfair. Surely they should start as they finished and their last bit of driving was poor causing them to loose all the weapon momentum.
I really think it should just be contestant vs contestant. There is absolutely no need for the house bots. I want to know the skill of each driver along with the skill of the engineering. I don’t want some over powered obnoxious bot that isn’t even in the fight.
That is crazy, they win on the "winning robot" doing damage to it self trying to finish off Typhoon? That sounds like a crazy effective strategy to win fights.
That's what made me laugh when the presenter was giving the side plates back to the Storm 2 boys with "you'll want this", I knew at the time they were robbing them blind once the commentator started shouting "major damage", it had obviously been edited in AFTER the battle. Disgusting really and its no wonder they ditched the TV and went back to battle bots after this.

to be fair I get why they won, I don't get why everyone is mad. Ir does make sense damage drown would count more though I do Think if it wasn't for storms 2 pieces falling off at the end he would of won.
That actually isn't true. Flippers can cause the opponent to flip out of the arena. But it does cause damage. Just not damage you can see on the body. Most damage flippers do is done internally on machines with the electronics being jarred loose from the fall damage.
E pensar se o Big Brother tivesse desvirado o Colossus antes do tempo acabar, o typhoo 2 talvez não teria conseguido desvirar, e então mudaria toda a história do campeonato, se ja pensou...
Tl;Dr: Ed Hoppitt of Storm 2 is an egotistical liar with a massive victim complex, and Typhoon 2 won fair and square by the rules of the time. It's kind of sad just how much Ed Hoppitt's lies about what happened in Series still permeate this comment section, and the Roboteering community in general. No, Mentorn did not purposefully go out of their way to screw him, if they wanted to do that they could have just thrown the book at the team of the fact that they kept removing and re-attaching the side-skirts in order to prevent flippers from getting under them. This would have counted as an interchangeable device designed to inhibit other robots which was illegal by the Series 7 rules due to the controversy over the Grand Final of the previous wars. Lie number 2 is that the claim they caused internal damage to Typhoon 2 in the form of breaking a chain that drove the spinning shell, the problem is that not only was this chain redundant and did not have any influence over the performance of Typhoon 2, Storm 2 weren't even the ones to break it as it had been broken in the previous fight with X-terminator. Lie number 3 is to do with the pit being put back up during the fight with Tornado. The reason that this was done was because it had been activated by the Refbot, who isn't supposed to do that, was it a consistent ruling, probably not but no sport governing body ever is. And, finally for all of those frothing at the mouth about the damage caused in the final, may I remind you that during these series, the main deciding factor for a judges decision was damage, not aggression, which was something changed for the reboot likely due to the controversy that THIS Grand Final caused. It can also be noted that if Mentorn were trying to screw anyone in Series 7, it was Tornado, as almost all the rules the Ed claims where made targeting him where made in the wake of Tornado winning series 6 and as such would be targeting Andrew Marchant's machine not Ed's. Pretty much nobody behind the scenes has or had a good word to say about Ed, and if you want a prime example as why: During the revival, PP3D, a robot designed and operated by Typhoon 2 alumni Gary Cairns needed a replacement motor. The Sabretooth team had one, and when Ede learned he tried to buy it off of Sabretooth team captain Gabe Stroud for more than the motor was worth because he still held a grudge over a decade later, which is just childishly petty. Thankfully Gabe did not accept Ed's 'offer' and Gary was able to get PP3D up and running again. It's very likely that this incident blacklisted Ed for the rest of the revival as despite promising to come back in series 10, he never did.
Typhoon was the luckiest robot ever. Not only was there the Storm II nonsense, but if Iron-Awe hadn't gotten a lucky flip out of the arena during the heat semifinal, Typhoon's run ends in the heat final. No way was Typhoon getting through Bigger Brother's armor.

21:59 shows the easiest way to disassemble your washing machine, instead of going through manuals and watching tutorials. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thank god for the grudge match in series 8.
Just spin to win
25:23 They look absolutely gutted.
to be fair I get why they won, I don't get why everyone is mad. Ir does make sense damage drown would count more though I do Think if it wasn't for storms 2 pieces falling off at the end he would of won.
Flippers don't do any damage. Why would people even use them!?
MIV 4D05 no series 8
Chaos 2, the only robot to win star wars 2 times was a flipper
That actually isn't true. Flippers can cause the opponent to flip out of the arena. But it does cause damage. Just not damage you can see on the body. Most damage flippers do is done internally on machines with the electronics being jarred loose from the fall damage.
@@ggurks my favorite star wars character, chaos 2
@@teamscrewup1809 I wonder how R2-D2 would do in robot wars
If only atomic hadn't upended themselves
E pensar se o Big Brother tivesse desvirado o Colossus antes do tempo acabar, o typhoo 2 talvez não teria conseguido desvirar, e então mudaria toda a história do campeonato, se ja pensou...

Typhoon 2 is a good robot it beat Megabyte at the 2005 RoboGames
Too bad Typhoon II withdrew from the 3rd World Championship.
As much as Storm 2 had Typhoon under the ropes for most of the fight, it didn't have a killer weapon to cause any real damage. Design flaw.
лучший робот что я видел.
Not to mention Atomic should've easily beaten them... but they completely screwed it up. But that's how it goes sometimes...
