I always thought that Dark Moon would look even more awkward next to 3 if it came to Switch, but the fact that it’s a bare-minimum HD Port? I’m still buying it, but the contrast is hilariously awkward.
Honestly, you make some really fair points about Dark Moon. I still prefer it to 3, but this did actually open my eyes to a lot of the problems I never caught on my first play through of the game.
@@slimballs9650 I actually really disliked 3's combat a lot. The slam is fun, but it's all you do and it's very monotonous. It's also your only real way to damage the ghosts as just pulling on them does basically nothing anymore.

If I had a nickel for every Mario game I consider to be Fucking Weird in talking about it, I'd have 3 nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened 3 times, and all in the 3DS/Wii U era.
@@memesaber6942 If you haven't heard anything about this since 3 months ago, just know that new details have come to light. Whether you look into it is entirely up to you.
**reads description** Actually, you press the D-Pad to call for Mario in this game, upon reaching mission E-3: A Train to Catch. Until then, the D-Pad makes Luigi say "Hello?".
One thing I find odd is how they don't keep Polterpup's pupils when Luigi's Mansion 3 came. It was shown that not being in the presence of the Dark Moon isn't the case because that mutt was in Luigi's Mansion, while I highly doubt is within the range of the Dark Moon.
I haven't played it in a while, but I remember liking Dark Moon a lot. I know a lot of people didn't like the fact that it was split into different missions, but I was fine with it, it definitely made sense for a handheld console. I think if they wanted to take that approach, they should've made the missions work more like Mario 64 where it's an open world and you can choose which mission you want to pursue within it rather than having to do the missions in order. Also, whenever I play games I feel compelled to interact with absolutely everything. In most games, that ends up being a waste of time, but Dark Moon rewarded me for that, so I feel like it kind of understands me a little lol
It may have been purely because it was the first one I played but this is my favourite of all 3 LM games. I haven't watched yet so I don't know what you're going to say about it but most people complain about the mission structure but I think it really works for the series and clearly they learned to combine the 2 styles in LM3 to what I think most people enjoyed.
Ah yes. Just when I was in the mood for some blessed or messed, the green bean himself… or, blue and red beans themselves, came through for us. Good shit good sir.
Dark Moon was the first Luigi’s Mansion game I beat because I couldn’t figure out what to do in the left hallway after beating Lydia in the beginning of the LM1. I have the most nostalgia of that game out of any of the Luigi’s Mansion games and I say it nails the atmosphere perfectly
Fighting boos became even more annoying in this game than it did in the first game, the glow balls are annoying to grab and if you are not fast enough, they just disappear into another object And boolasuss was so fucking annoying since trying to aim those boos into the cages is more annoying than it needed to be
Not to start a flame war, but I kinda liked DM as much as 3 if not slightly better. Maybe it's nostalgia for it being my intro to the series, but I feel like for all it has 3 somehow feels somehow both padded and short. Don't get me wrong it's a great game and when it goes all in with a theme the floors are short fun experiences, but I also can say without any sarcasm that a solid chunk of the floors consist of a hallway with enemy gauntlets and a themed boss. Also I didn't like what 3 did to ScareScraper
This game turned a rivalry into a friendship that's still going strong today so I hold this game in high regard. I'm just happy this was my first Luigi's mansion game.
First Luigi's Mansion game I played. It was literally the first game I could get my hands on because I never had a GameCube for the first game. I've poured hundreds to possibly thousands of hours into this game not only to casual gaming, but to speedrunning it also. Of course, when it comes to game capturing it for Twitch or UA-cam, it can be hard to come by for a capture card. (Especially nowadays considering we're in a worldwide pendemic.) From a speedrunner's perspective, I'd still recommend playing this game even a decade later. Yeah, it certainly doesn't have the charm as the first game, but Dark Moon is truly unique to it's predecessor and successor. It tackles a handheld, mission mode perspective. Which 1 and 3 couldn't do. It's unlikely, but I would appreciate it if Nintendo ported Dark Moon to the Switch or even remastered it to give it the second chance it deserves.
Luigi mansion 3 may be better than dark moon but it lacks 2 things that dark moon holds. better plot/lore and showing Luigi’s canonical strength. Counting Luigi mansion in the mario series for a moment, dark moon has one of the best plots in the entire mario series. Arguably better lore and a better plot than most of the RPG’s.
@@FawfulsMinionYT I don't, Haunted Towers' theme and the other boss themes (especially the first and second) were pretty good, also all variants of the Piano theme where bangers
@@FawfulsMinionYT the variations are better than just having the 1 song in the original. But then again, the original is so short you probably hear each song in 2 for as long as you hear it in 1 anyway.
Not that literally anyone cares but I didn’t play a lot of video games when I was younger. But I sunk 100 hours in this game alone, so I am stupidly bias towards this game and series haha
I appreciate that Luigi’s Mansion 3 has better ghosts that’s Dark Moon I like the way the ghosts looked in the original and I hope for Luigi’s Mansion 4 they make the ghosts look similar to the ones in the original.
You see. I love Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon, and it is without a doubt my favorite game in the franchise. I think a lot of your points about the not so good things about the game are valid. I personally love the ghosts in that game, and I think this game's soundtrack is very underappreciated, and the clock boss theme most notably is one of my favorite video game songs of all time, but other than that, I see where you are going. That being said, I will try to show why I love this game so much, by praising some of its elements. After all, if you ask to me, the best way to show something its value for me is not by proving the criticism are wrong, but by showing the good things that you see about it that the others don't. -I have to admit something. I grew up with Dark Moon. Therefore, I guess you could say that I am nostalgia biased, but at least I can try getting some valid points. I say that, because this game being my first exposition to E. Gadd, I absolutely loved the guy. His dynamic with Luigi is like a family friendly version of Rick and Morty basically, and the guy is absolutely hysterical! I still remember laughing about him having a crush with the three ghost sisters or whenever he talks about his younger days or trying to reassure Luigi but failing horribly. Because of that, I was pretty disappointed with how his other appearances weren't nearly as entertaining as Dark Moon's incarnation of the character. Especially in Luigi's Mansion 3, since this game was the sequel, and could have make this E. Gadd a staple in the franchise. In fact, do you want a bold statement? I think E Gadd alone is better than all portrait ghosts and 3's bosses combined in terms of personality. -I have to introduce this point, by telling a criticism about the game's story. I don't think showing King Boo destroying the dark moon at the beginning of the game was a good idea. I mean imagine if we actually didn't know if King Boo was back or not until the last mansion. That would have made for an actual twist. That being said, even with that, Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon the best intrigue in the entire trilogy. Like I really want to investigate in that mansion to know what happened or what is happening right now. There are even some cool details like how the Toad from E Gadd's lab are captured, but that for some of them, during early missions you can see how the Toad ended up being captured, and makes for cool foreshadowing on the fact you'll have to save those Toads later. I just love those things. -While the bosses are pretty lame (although they are also pretty lame if not worse in the first game), I honestly think this game has the best regular ghost fights in the game. The ghosts are combined in more interesting and challenging ways than in the first game, and there isn't the somewhat overpowered slam move of the third game. I've played this game for years, and it still happens to me to get some difficulties from time to time. -Can we get some respect over the 3DS's button mapping for this game being so well done? Like they managed to make a Luigi's Mansion game work on the 3DS, a console that don't always have a right analog stick that would have been used to aim with Luigi's Poltergust. Instead, the X button is used to look up, and interact with nearby object, and the B button is used to run, and look donw whenever you are using the strobulb, the vacuum or other gadgets. And like it actually controls very well! And not gonna lie, between my joycons drifting and me being used to Dark Moon's controls, I would have kind of liked to see these controls back in 3. Don't get me wrong, that isn't something that makes 3 worse, like at all, but my point is, these controls a pretty fucking good! Playing the 3DS remake without a second Circle Pad, really makes you appreciated Dark Moon's controls all the more! -I know you love the Luigi's Mansion 1 ending scene, and I do too. However, Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon's ending is just as powerful for me. Like seeing your brother back, and all the ghosts becoming good again, and Luigi adopting Polterpupp is such a wholesome scene. And after two games with amazing but simple endings, I was kind of disappointed by 3's ending. It's a good ending, but it doesn't work at its fullest if you ask to me. -Ok. The following point is THE main reason why I love Dark Moon so much. The main criticism you would find about Luigi's Mansion 1 and 3 from random people on the internet is that those games are too short. Personally I don't think any games are too short by themselves. In fact, short games can be amazing if they provide some great replayability. That's kind of why I love Spyro the Dragon, Sonic Colors and Bowser's Fury so much. They have tons of depths and replayability, and due to being short you can look at them and be like "Yeah! I am willing to beat this whole thing again!". Luigi's Mansion 1 and 3 don't have that much depth if you ask to me. The biggest problem with those games is that they are what I like to call "fake non linear games". Especially in the case of the first one! Like on the surface, Luigi's Mansion 1 seems to be a game that lets you explore the whole mansion at your own pace, but in practice, this game has a shockingly linear progression. Same with Luigi's Mansion 3, except this game doesn't even try to hide it, since the elevator is essentially a level select. And I think how linear those games are, combined with the fact those games aren't very hard, this makes those games not as replayable as they could have been. What about Dark Moon you might say? Sure, it's the longest game of the three, but it is clearly the most linear game in the franchise due to its mission based progression. But here is the thing. Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon is not a fake non linear game. Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon is a game that completely assumes the fact that it's linear, and takes full advantage of it. The fact that Dark Moon is the most challenging game in the franchise in terms of regular ghostbusting sure helps on that, even though it isn't the most challenging thing ever. But then there is the ranking system! Thanks to the fact that Dark Moon is mission based, you can get a rank on each missions, and trying to get those rank is so fun, and so challenging. Much more challenging than getting the best hotel or mansion the other games by collecting enough money. It gives this game a lot more depth and replayability. Dark Moon, especially when compared to the rest of the franchise truly shows us that linear game design have its advantages over the design of open worlds and such, and that in the end, it's all a question of execution. So yeah, these were some of my reasons why I love Dark Moon that weren't in your video. I invite anyone who sees this comment to reply if they want to start an interesting debate about all this, because I love discussing about that stuff.
I played this game a lot when I was younger. Going back to it after the third game was actually really fun. The ghost fights are the best in Dark Moon, since they do not have the overpowered burst and slam abilities. Also, I don’t know if I’m the only one who liked them, but I really enjoyed the Toad missions in Dark Moon. Luigi’s scenes with the toads are funny and sweet. Both games have their strengths! Luigi’s Mansion 3 is probably my favorite Switch game from Nintendo, and Dark Moon is my favorite 3DS game next to M&L Dream Team
@@Eclipsmon8421 There are non-Nintendo games on the Switch I like more, like Celeste. Also, I have Breath of the Wild on Wii U, so that is a Wii U game for me
@@Xoiland Yeah, but Super Mario Odyssey exist, and it's like my fourth favorite video game ever, and there are also a couple of games made by Nintendo on the switch as well that I like more than Luigi's Mansion 3. In fact, the bar is so high that I legit think that every big Nintendo games I've played on the Switch are better than Luigi's Mansion 3 except for pokemon Sword and Shield, and I like both of these games.
*reads description* what are you talking about? no they didn't! you can still do that! and when Luigi finds out Mario's been trapped in a painting again, he calls for Mario again
This game was my first Luigi's mansion and like. I liked it, but I think it lacked something. I don't even know how, I just enjoyed the other two more. I think it helped that house exploration wasn't limited into levels for the other two, giving you a better feel for exploring the entire house/hotel in the other games. I did love the toad missions in this one, ngl **That ice hole can fucking die, mandatorily dying if you ran out of time??? Terrible**
The one part I found was better in dark moon was the scarecraper. When I got to try the one in luigis mansion 3, I felt it was kinda nerfed in a way, but might biased with hiw much time i passed playing that side mode with local friends.
I enjoyed the Reference to ChuggaConroy, it was a clever way to reference him, I do enjoy LM2 for the Multiple Mansions it has and the new and improved upgrades to the Poltergust, but I feel like they could have made Luigi's Mansion better if they kept the portrait ghost for fights and maybe even added in new Portrait ghost for each mansion, while making sure the Mansion were around the same size as the first one in the original game they could still have different levels but not as many since they would be bigger mansions and you could still have the Boo's but give them back their original names and make some easier to find while others would need the Gameboy Horror from the first game, which would also let you find secret rooms filled with even more ghosts, And maybe some of the secret rooms or other rooms could have references to the other Mario games, and spin offs like Mario Kart and Mario party or the first Luigi's Mansion.
Few things: I definitely remember the title theme and the Time Attack themes. I personally like the bosses in this game more than Luigi’s Mansion 1. My favorite being Knightmare Lawful was right about the mansions being great. My personal favorite is the final one: Treacherous Mansion.
As a kid I always ended up with the black sheep's of a franchise. Mario Party 8, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Gates to Infinity, Metroid Other M, and of course Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon
Dark Moon is definitely at the bottom of the trilogy, but that doesn't it make it inherently bad. 3 just does a lot of what it was trying to do better, and of course the original game was hard to replicate. To it's credit, though, Dark Moon at least still did something with the Boos, even when compared to the original and especially 3, where in the latter they were just an *optional* collectible.

Woah, you got a license to be that based?
Don’t worry your not the only one but in my opinion it’s also better than 3
Yeah this is the most solid in the series in terms of challenge as well in my opinion.
I think objectively 3 is best despite me liking 2 more, but I definitely would argue in favour of 2 being better than 1
I always thought that Dark Moon would look even more awkward next to 3 if it came to Switch, but the fact that it’s a bare-minimum HD Port?
I’m still buying it, but the contrast is hilariously awkward.
Im so glad you covered this game minion I always wondered if you ever played this game since you were such a big luigi’s mansion fan
Honestly, you make some really fair points about Dark Moon. I still prefer it to 3, but this did actually open my eyes to a lot of the problems I never caught on my first play through of the game.
It has my favorite combat system of the three, which I think is pretty important.
Even more than 3?
@@slimballs9650 I actually really disliked 3's combat a lot. The slam is fun, but it's all you do and it's very monotonous. It's also your only real way to damage the ghosts as just pulling on them does basically nothing anymore.
@@Moss_Dude Not to mention that it's way to easy with the Slam cause other Ghosts don't attack anymore when you start it, in fact they back off in fright of being hit. And that really sucks. In Dark Moon the other Ghosts at least really attacked you while you were battelling other Ghosts
I have a lot of nostalgia for Dark Moon, while weirdly enough, kind of forgetting about it completely. If I had a nickel for every Mario game I consider to be Fucking Weird in talking about it, I'd have 3 nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened 3 times, and all in the 3DS/Wii U era.
Yeah, that is a bit weird, what are the other 2.
@@Springdude11 Color Splash and Paper Jam. I like them both, but they both have a shit ton of missed potential, especially with Paper Jam.
0:27 *pardon-*
I played the livig shit out of this game and scarescraper with my sister. I still prefer this one's scarescraper than 3's.
Welp, that moment at 9:26 aged like milk.
And yet, 4/16/2024 invited the question of whether that aging caused it to spoil, or simply become cheese.
@@thegreendragon5390 y'know I ain't sure if I want context to that
@@memesaber6942
If you haven't heard anything about this since 3 months ago, just know that new details have come to light.
Whether you look into it is entirely up to you.
From my point of view, that milk aged into a fine cheese.

Actually, you press the D-Pad to call for Mario in this game, upon reaching mission E-3: A Train to Catch.
Fawful's minon uploading legit feels like a mini celebration, it makes me feel like christmas
Let's see what the Dark Moon remastered for switch looks like this year
Dark Moon was the first Luigi’s Mansion game I beat because I couldn’t figure out what to do in the left hallway after beating Lydia in the beginning of the LM1. I have the most nostalgia of that game out of any of the Luigi’s Mansion games and I say it nails the atmosphere perfectly
Fighting boos became even more annoying in this game than it did in the first game, the glow balls are annoying to grab and if you are not fast enough, they just disappear into another object
And boolasuss was so fucking annoying since trying to aim those boos into the cages is more annoying than it needed to be
I think it would be hilarious if Logan did a Blessed or Messed for Wii Sports.
Babe wake up!
New Fawful's upload!!
This game turned a rivalry into a friendship that's still going strong today so I hold this game in high regard. I'm just happy this was my first Luigi's mansion game.
It might not be the best, but its my favorite because it introduced me to the series, and by searching for luigi's mansion on youtube, this channel.
(Especially nowadays considering we're in a worldwide pendemic.)
From a speedrunner's perspective, I'd still recommend playing this game even a decade later.
Always love watching my bros videos
I personally love this game. The ATMOSPHERE. holy cow the atmosphere.
The music in this game was amazing, while it wasn't scary, it still was very good
I personally disagree. It's pretty bland imo, and so many of it is just variations on the Gloomy Manor piece.
I can kinda relate, Luigi’s Mansion 2 was the only game I had on the 3ds for a while, so I got really attached to it
Makes sense this game would be here. That being said, I do still personally like it quite a bit.
4:49 ok e-gadd is annoying as an upstairs nayberhood watching robot chicken on max volume, but you can't deny that ring tone is pretty nice
Bustin makes Luigi feel good.
i actually like the common ghost design in Dark Moon the most of the 3 Luigi's Mansion titles
glad to see we are getting a Switch port
This is the only Nintendo game where the online is good
I'm nostalgic toward dark moon. My intro to Luigi's mansion.
I liked it, and one theme I wanna highlight is stop the knightmare
I don’t know why people consider luigi a coward, sure he’s easily frightened, but he does what he needs to in spite of it
This ended like I thought it would be. Little more good than bad, but only just a little.
Oh this will be great~
I honestly loved this game back in the day.
I appreciate that Luigi’s Mansion 3 has better ghosts that’s Dark Moon I like the way the ghosts looked in the original and I hope for Luigi’s Mansion 4 they make the ghosts look similar to the ones in the original.
"Don't you just love it when a title lies to you? Yo Blair Witch...where's the fuckin' Blair Witch!?"
Never change, Logan. Never change. XD
@@Xoiland I agree that all three games have their strengths. The bar is too high for me to consider LM3 the Switch game though.
@@Eclipsmon8421 It’s ok, you can disagree. They’re all good games.
I don't really think you can compare Luigi's Mansion to Smash. Luigi's Mansion 2 still has it's own adventure that you can't experience playing 3

what are you talking about? no they didn't! you can still do that! and when Luigi finds out Mario's been trapped in a painting again, he calls for Mario again
This game was my first Luigi's mansion and like. I liked it, but I think it lacked something. I don't even know how, I just enjoyed the other two more. I think it helped that house exploration wasn't limited into levels for the other two, giving you a better feel for exploring the entire house/hotel in the other games.
I did love the toad missions in this one, ngl
**That ice hole can fucking die, mandatorily dying if you ran out of time??? Terrible**
The one part I found was better in dark moon was the scarecraper. When I got to try the one in luigis mansion 3, I felt it was kinda nerfed in a way, but might biased with hiw much time i passed playing that side mode with local friends.
Final point against the game: Luigi's Mansion 3 exists
Why would you say something so controversial yet so brave?
Welcome back to Blessed!
So......who else is here because of the recent announcment?
Few things:
I definitely remember the title theme and the Time Attack themes.
I personally like the bosses in this game more than Luigi’s Mansion 1. My favorite being Knightmare
Lawful was right about the mansions being great. My personal favorite is the final one: Treacherous Mansion.
Thank You Scavy! I had a marvelous Halloween season! I hope that you did too!

This one might be inferior to the other two, but it was my first Luigi's Mansion game and I love this game to death.
Anything good from LM3 comes from the feedback gotten from LM2, never forget that.
Dark Moon is worth recommending though it is not better than 1st LM.
a little late for halloween but hey this makes a near perfect thanksgiving gift!
As a kid I always ended up with the black sheep's of a franchise. Mario Party 8, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Gates to Infinity, Metroid Other M, and of course Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon
You watch Chuggaconroy? *mad respect bro!*
THE MESS OF IT ALL
Dark Moon is definitely at the bottom of the trilogy, but that doesn't it make it inherently bad. 3 just does a lot of what it was trying to do better, and of course the original game was hard to replicate. To it's credit, though, Dark Moon at least still did something with the Boos, even when compared to the original and especially 3, where in the latter they were just an *optional* collectible.
