When I was growing up in Silicon Valley in the 1980's, my college buddies were talking about a fast-growing company in Menlo Park called Cisco as we were standing around the keg one midnight. I saw the potential of networking and the Internet back in the early days and spent a lot of time experimenting and building through the ensuing years. I finally got my foot in the door (of Cisco) in '96. I can't even begin to say just how much of a life-changing decision it was to learn as much as possible about networking and technology early in my career. There are even more opportunities today and the accessibility of those opportunities is much better than it used to be (back in the old days). It's all about the motivation!

I'm not young, not old, but I have been wanting to do this for about 7 years and finally did it thanks to IT/Security community and content creators like David, NetworkChuck and Black Hills. Do it! Great message for those who procrastinate and are a bit lazy. but David...show some sensitivity to those who are suffering from poor mental health, who need support and help in order yo get back up...rebuild confidence and push on.
Thank you. So many issues I'm broadly dealing with (mindset). long term illness for the last several years thats become chronic. For 10 years prior I worked in investment banking. But in 2017 I became very I'll, and unable to work since. While recovering, I knew IB was in the past, but hopeless without any direction. I struggle with cognitive issues and reading/processing now. Somehow I found your channel and it clicked... always loved tech... Good at it... Now I know there's a path to a career and life change. I'm starting with A+ and want to get into cybersec...leaning blue, but purple and red are fine too. Fortunately I have the time and the drive, but routine is the challenge. I need to regain the structure. Everyone has their own challenges...its up to me to work through them. This was very motivating and much needed. TY
Great message, and unexpected. Financial freedom = power. Power is your ability to exert control over your own life (not the life of others). I have 2 full years of living expenses saved as my 'emergency' fund. That's not my only 'backup' account. No company has leverage over me. Don't waste time/money/effort on college. Identify a skill with high market demand, then master that skill. Don't fall for the consumerism. They want you to be on a 30+ year debt treadmill (removing your power). With the possible exception of a house - if you can't pay cash for it, don't buy it. The used 2012 Camry for $5k will take you to all the same places as the 2022 C8 Corvette for $95k. Minimalism is the key to success. Minimalism often gets confused as 'don't buy stuff you don't need'. I would define it as: don't buy things that won't significantly enhance your life. I'd rather spend 5k on that Camry, and invest the excess 90k (being honest it will be 105+ after financing) in blue chip stocks, and experiences over the next few years.
No freaking way! I think me and you are close to the same age and I grew up in a small town called Brewster Ohio which is about 20 minutes away. And right now I am the head mighty Guy for an electrical co-op and internet service provider in kansas. Good to see other success stories!

Thank You
Just started my first Helpdesk job and wish I had started sooner! YOU can do it! I'm not young, not old, but I have been wanting to do this for about 7 years and finally did it thanks to IT/Security community and content creators like David, NetworkChuck and Black Hills. Do it! Take a chance on yourself!
there are still people like u exist, thank god
Great interview. Thank you
Next level content. Thank you so much.👍
Great message for those who procrastinate and are a bit lazy.
but David...show some sensitivity to those who are suffering from poor mental health, who need support and help in order yo get back up...rebuild confidence and push on.
Find a way to restart my career as a developer after so many years ... Proudly positive ... Thanks for your high quality content
You're welcome!

You're welcome Faran!
David has been the reason why am seeing thing in different way now
Wow, I after my collage exams I will take your courses, thanks.
52:06 It's the golden age of IT learning! Thanks for another great video and great motivation to keep working on the CCNA cert!
TY
Excellent discussion gentleman. A good dose of motivation is good for all of us! BTW your videos are awsome.
Passion helps immensely.
the best conversation I've seen so far :)
Great Video, very inspirational.
This was awesome!! Def subscribed to his channel!
This is invaluable information
Glad you think so JP!
Thanks for all content you provide i have learned a lot already.
Helpful video, David, keep the good work !
