Good knowledge of German language is necessary to find a job in cybersecurity?

Quick comment about age. I was a 40 year old taxi driver who had been doing the job 15 years. I had the mentality that I wasn't good enough for anything else but in my free time I was building my own Linux based systems, writing code and I once spent a weekend learning the intricacies of binary math! Then I met a guy that convinced me I could get hired to work in IT. 6 months later I got my first job on a Service Desk for a multinational. The secret was, I didn't ask anyone if I was too old. I just did it.

I’m in my late 50’s woman who is disabled but I have always had a passion for computers. (I’m even installing a 32 bit version of Debian on an old Eee Pc netbook as I am typing this.) I am not able to go to school for anything but it’s a hobby of mine to tinker with old computers and install Linux on them. I’m currently learning Python. I have learned so much about Pentesting, etc. from David’s videos. Thank you, David! 😊

I’m glad you push for free content as there are many people who just want to sell you a course, and that course may or may not be what you thought it was, before people dishing out $400 odd, which is quite a lot in many countries, hopefully the free content can guide people into the right areas and more importantly help people to find what parts they enjoy. In my experience most intro courses are just theory without practical followed up by a quiz and 90% of this if not more is freely available if you know where to look.
People in good jobs and corporates and throw thousands but students generally can’t, and so they need the free resources and ideally free mentoring. Mentoring seems to be lost in many companies which is a sad trend.

David, I wanted you to know what a role you play in my own life. I’m an older learner, @ early 50’s. I have been not working since a serious injury some years ago. Now, in my later years I’ve come to know my passion again. IT & security, penetration testing, and the like. You have been such a huge help to me. I’m not able to pay for my learning at this time and you make it possible for people like myself to learn but also to believe that it’s possible. I’m in a position where my income is so restrictive and I’m “hungry” to learn, to further my life and the lives of my sons. Your knowledge and the information you provide is so very valuable and helpful and useful to me. You…have and do make a difference in my life and a new outlook on life. Know that you do make a positive difference in other people’s lives. Thank you.
Ps: A 2nd video on how to set up Linux via windows (10) and all the tools & steps therein would be very welcomed. Thank you for all you add to our collective community. Be well David. And thank you.

All due respect to Micha and Griffin (I follow both elsewhere} I would love to do another open source course but its been my experience that most course content will teach and require linux (which i use privately but am limited to online tools in windows professionally) and 90% of the course will lean heavily on tools that work in the usa but are no good for those outside the states. Here in the U.K we cant access closed records outside of a LEA pathway like it would appear that you can in the usa.

This is a field in where you can really make a difference in the World. However, I live in Portugal and we do not have a P.I. regulated profession neither intelligence departments in police stations. There are very few portuguese based companies that conduct background checks. Lately I have been investigating career opportunities and cannot lean myself into this field with the realistic hope of finding a job looking only at scarce remote positions in Europe. The U.S. market looks to be looking only at US citizens with different levels of clearance. I'd love to get OSINT certified (looking into Michael Bazzell's course) but can't justify the price If I won't be able to have a return on the investment. Emigration is not currently an option. It's a shame, I work in IT since 2013 but I am not seeing a way to make it work. If anyone has an idea, please let me know, I'd really appreciate it.
