  • Lychee is one of my favorite fruits and grows well on a Hawaii homestead. It is a tropical tree native to China, where cultivation is documented from 1059AD. Watch out for the seed and enjoy.

Hello! I come from China. My hometown is one of the origins of lychee. Now it's harvest season. I don’t know if you know. What I want to tell you is that lychee also have many varieties and each taste is difference. The lychee you show in the video we call bingtangang in the local which is precocious one. My favorite lychee are nuomizhi, feizixiao and guiwei. All of names are their local names. Lychee is so juicy and we should eat it when it's fresh otherwise it will lose the special taste. Oh, I want to eat now!

      Thanks for shareing!
In hawaii i believe this variety is called kai mana
The other 2 varieties ive seen on island have been called cheramoya(not sure of the spelling)
      And bosworth
      They are wonderful!

I agree totally about eating Lychee when it's fresh. The fruit lose its smell and juice as days go by. Sometimes, it has the fermented flavor and not pleasant.

Gabe, got turned onto your channel, when you made the chocolate video with Gary. Gary and I worked together in an Oregon winery, before he moved to Hawaii. He and Cheryl are in Colorado, just talked to him on phone the other day. Really enjoy this channel, and your work. By the way, the best gewurtztraminer wine smells just like lychee!

Unfortunately lychee do not continue to ripen once picked
This means they must be shipped and refridgerated within about a day, 2 can be ok depending on the fruit, 3 is pushing it
So shipping from hawaii to minnesota would not be a cost efficient way to recieve them.
Though if you have the ability to take a month or 2 away from home, there are many work trade opportunities on big island that could allow your stay here to be very inexpensive.

First of all humans should only be in Minnesota between May and August
      secondly you're invited to Florida

It tastes kinda like but sweeter than juicy peach and water melon, with texture similar to jelly.
