My teacher taught us a way of deciding on the 'u' when doing integration by parts. Use the mnemonic u is "LATE": 1. Logs 2. Algebra (polynomials) 3. Trigonometry 4. Exponentials
This was very helpful, from a students point of view, some parts (which you were obviously confident on) seemed to be very rushed, and I got a vibe of being left behind slightly, so I found myself rewinding now and again. But overall, definitely improved my confidence
I am self teaching and this video was perfect. It clearly laid out all the techniques enabling me to develop a logical process for solving each problem style alongside how to recognise each type. Thank you! Keep making videos :D
Seriously this is such a life saver - have c4 tomorrow and was freaking out as I kept muddling my intergration techniques and It's my last chance to salvage maths XD This was an amazing refresher and exactly what I needed, so thank you!
Thanks a bunch! I was struggling with Integration and Differentiation on C4 so I really appreciate this video which clearly, and efficiently explains the whole chapter. :)

at 28:00 for question C, could you not do this as a straight up log? as -x^2 differentiates to -2x, you could put a -1/x before the integral to undo making 2, -2x, then it will be -2xln(1-x^2) ?? If anyone else knows feel free to confirm or deny my answer
Parsa Lotfizadeh hiya Parsa - thanks loads for the message. at 30:00 u differentiated sin^3x, I thought we can't do that???? we can't differentiate sin^2x, we have to use double angle formula. Please explain, thanks
Let me try and help you... YES! You can differentiate those terms with powers let y=sin^3x y=(sinx)^3 dy/dx=3(sinx)^2 I think youre muddling what applies to integration and what applies to differentiation ...When trying to INTEGRATE a term like sin^2x, you MUST replace it with a trigonometric identity that can be integrated e.g. if y =sin^2x y= (1/2-1/2cos2x) and then intergrate because all linear terms can be intergrated ^that exampke there is worked through on page 93 of the bait textbook Hope you see this before tomorrow :D

At about 25:10 , isn't the integral of 2sinx = -2cosx ? I apologize if i'm wrong but i think you forgot the negative sign . On another note , thanks a lot for this video and all of the other videos you uploaded . I'm sure that thousands of students have benefited and continue to benefit form them . Thank you to everyone who helped with the video whether it was regarding the info or editing . I am grateful .
you guys making a big deal about the mistake, it can be common to make a small error like that especially if he is trying to cover the entire Integration Chapter of C4 in 45 Mins. Its not impossible for that to happen. Really good video, however you should try cover the Harder Trig Function types as they are quite common and quite difficult to deal with also Partial Fractions that include trig Functions will be a good idea as well. Great Video Though. Last Min revision

My teacher taught us a way of deciding on the 'u' when doing integration by parts. Use the mnemonic u is "LATE":
1. Logs
2. Algebra (polynomials)
3. Trigonometry
4. Exponentials
Why on earth did nobody bother to tell me this.
What about Integrating e^xsinx. That involves make the exponential the “u” value
No it makes sinx the u value, as its trig
yeah, exactly and if you make sinx the u value you get the wrong answer, it only works if you make e^x the u value
My teacher taught the "LIATE" rule
Very Helpful video, great when revising for C4 chapter 6
However at 25:10 there is a small error, it should have been negative (5/2)*ln(3-2x)
AT 33:47 Use *LATE* rule to select for *u*
L - log - *highest priority*
A - algebra
T - trig
E - exponential - *lowest priority*
or ILATE: Inverse functions, Logarithmic functions, Algebraic functions, Trigonometric functions, and Exponential functions.
at 25:00 how on earth did you get -5 and not +5 instead? shouldnt the answer be -5/2 ln(3-2X) ?
Yeah I think you're right
I think so..
srikanthsrnvs123 he made a mistake ..

best video I've seen on integration (even with the different spec we have now)

Ty very much
Except for one or two sign errors, this is a great resource - thank you!! :) - such as 5/2 instead of -5/2 in the answer to 3rd natural logs question
Watched this 3 hrs before exam. It was super helpful! Thanks!!!
25:30 you've put 1/3 instead of 1/2
This video was amazing - recapped everything so simply and so many examples to try out for myself as I went along! Thankyou so much :)
mistake at 24:45, you've taken -5 out as a factor instead of just 5
Very helpful when starting university doing a maths based course after a year out, thank you!!
Loved this! Recommended it to my friends as well :)

Nice one Rudra
Thank you it really helped me than my actual teacher....I would want to see a definite Integration video too
thanks sooooo much! It is extremely useful!
at about 25:23 , you wrote (1/3) although you meant (1/2) .
By the way, thank you very much for these invaluable guidance.
at 25:00 why did you take -5 out, wouldnt it just be 5?
+iDutch5 yeh wtf he says something and puts down something different an annotation would be good
+iDutch5 I was thinking this too! :P
It should be 5 , um visiting the comment section for this one to be sure 😂
Do u even lift tho?
Very helpful !!
Thank you so much. 😆

What is the function and requirement to take out certain numbers from certain polynomials? +HEGARTYMATHS
also at 25:32 shouldnt it be 1/2 and not 1/3?
I think so. Do you know where the cosx disappears to?
Oh wait never mind, I wasn't familiar with the inspection method.
might as well become a teacher

Hello . Iwant to ask ,can you tell me please the soft ware that you use to write on screnn?
21:55 where does the minus come from? -(2/5)
Excellent learning
Very nice video keep it up
25:50 ,Isnt the integral of sin -cos? And that 3 should be 2 right? Otherwise, excellent revision video. Best I've seen on UA-cam.
1/3 should be 1/2 yes but you're not integrating sin to get the numerator you are differentiating it and so it is cos not -cos.
last minute revision 😣 exams in 6 hours
I love integwashon!
Winderfoo recap, thank ye!
anyone found any videos on integration of hyperbolics for further pure?
at 38:37, why do you take the positive square root of 5?

HEGARTYMATHS Done :)
THANK YOU
np
At 32.40 is it supposed to be 2/3 and not 3/2?
omg thank you wow
17:03 the integral of sin2xcos2x dx
is 1/4sin^2(2x) +C
Got -1/8 cos (4x)
You use
Sin 2x = 2sin(x)cos(x)
Sin 4x= 2sin(2x)cos(2x)
1/2Sin(4x) = sin(2x)cos(2x)
at 30:00 u differentiated sin^3x, I thought we can't do that???? we can't differentiate sin^2x, we have to use double angle formula. Please explain, thanks

at 24:35 why did you take out -5 and not +5??
38:40 why take only the positive one?
at 25:29 you made a small mistake, it's 1/2 ln ..... not 1/3 ln ......
but many thanks! the video was a massive help!!

best of luck guys
at 25:25 he wrote 1/3 while saying 'half'. its a mistake he meant half [1/2]
is this for AS and A2 or just A2?
btw the IBP of x^2ln(x) isn't correct. you multiplied u'v instead of uv'.
8:14 I'm not sure the second one is right
only doing c4 this year and i still feel like i need to revise c1-3 cos i dont know the 'basics' lol
Is c4 further maths ?
watching this because i always make mistakes when finding the area of curve in polar coordinates questions.... hahaha
At 32:04 why did he add 1 to a half?
yes
I think it is 5 not -5 in 24:38
now do one for differentiation
8:07 whats this method?🤔
He's just taking the denominator out of the function as it's a constant and integrating via the reverse chain rule
you have got a mistake at time 24:37
number -5 must be (5)
25:00 what I do during exam.
I love you
i wonder what he's doing right now during the year 2020
ikr
So mocks tomorrow 😫
