  • The next stop on our incredible Italian motorhome adventure is Florence and wow, what a treat we had in store. As always, we had few challenges along the way!
We found the tram stop at Arcipresse about 15 mins walk away from our campsite and were really pleased that we found how to buy the ticket for town quite easily. It had an English option for language. The main problem was how crowded the trams were. We let one go, thinking that must be unusually crowded but no, the next was just the same if not worse. We dithered and lost the option to get on so it was the third tram that we boarded. We were starting to feel a time pressure as we had booked a time slot at the Uffizi gallery. We got off the tram at Val Fonda and walked through town to find the most beautiful Catherdral of Santa Maria del Fiore on our path. It is a breathtakingly beautiful building. We stopped and admired it from the outside. Then we hot tailed it to the Uffizi, and got hopelessly lost as to which queue to join. This art gallery attracts about 5,000-6,000 people a day and can reach a staggering 12,000 on very busy days.
After a trip across the point Vecchio we had lunch at the Osteria Vecchio Vicolo. It was absolutely gorgeous. We spent more here than any other meal but it was sooooooo worth it! Can you guess the price of our meal?
After lunch we headed across town, going past the cathedral again, to the Academia to see Michelangelo’s David. He is 17ft tall and such an impressive marble statue. There is also a room in the Academia that demonstrates some of the stages of development that the sculptures go through as many are cast in plaster to demonstrate what they will be when carved out of marble. The crowds were a little less at the academia, which was welcomed. The academia has about 4,000 visitors a day.
Although it works out at €20 pp it's great value for money when you consider the number of masterpieces you will see is incredible.

Peg was only interested in "Dave's" wedding tackle ;) there was a copy of David a few years ago in a mall on the Gold Coast in Aus which I saw there. We have just got back from visiting family in Philadelphia, while there we went to the Barnes Foundation, which was started by a Dr Barnes he was a big art collector, buying Impressionist works of art, but there was too much art on the walls, like you found in the galleries in Florance! I think Peg's a little tipsy at lunch I don't know how you did another gallery after lunch??? Loved you video as always ;)

@@brummie0007 Thanks A, glad you had a good time in Philadelphia. I find my appreciation of art improves after a glass or two 😂
