- Greg makes 3 drinks he has never had from The Modern Bartenders Guide while he and Meredith chat. It's an after party so anything goes.
In this episode we use a Baldoria Vermouth which is currently shipping free at Curiada - bit.ly/drinkcr.... They're from the team behind Little Red Door, which is a destination avant-garde cocktail bar in Paris that is consistently ranked one of the Top 10 Bars in the World. The vermouths have JUST arrived to the US and as you can see in the episode are worth a try.

Dashes and Splashes would be a killer name for a bar, to be honest lol.
I would go there
I'd be proud to drink and Dashes and Splashes
Greg: "the word dash in old recipes is inconsistent"
Also Greg: "A blump of simple"
Hope everything baby related goes well for Meredith and Mrs Meredith.

Perfect, the show is best when both of you are here.
You should make Meredith a non-alcoholic cocktail in each of these afterparties. She'd having something to drink and it'd teach us some cool recipes.
Loving these Thursday shows. More Meredith for the children!! And more... children... for the Meredith? Gonna workshop that one
Meredith is indeed an eldritch entity that devours the souls of orphans.
loving the increased screen time and banter with Meredith, they bring a wonderful energy to the show, much love from Australia!
Agreed. 100%
MeredithCam is the best. Always loved their banter, now we get to see it from both sides!
Just wanna mention, I like this chill chatty drinky relaxed vibe a lot.
Best of luck to Meridith and her wife, hope it works soon! And good luck to Greg with the snipsnip.
Hey Meredith, I read an article from NPR recently (dated Jan. 26) about a nonalcoholic drinks festival in Washington DC. One of the organizers said "All of the early bartending manuals include nonalcoholic drinks" but after Prohibition "people stopped treating people who don't drink alcohol like adults." It's a really interesting article if you want to google it. It also mentions there are nonalcoholic bitters that might be interesting to try. I don't know if any of this would work for content on the channel, but I thought I'd mention it in case you're interested for personal use. Also, good luck to you and your partner. Trying to get pregnant can be incredibly stressful, especially if there are medical procedures involved. I hope it all goes well.
I really dig this extra casual vibe with all the banter with Greg and Meredith. This is just lovely
The dash conversations reminds me of making coffee for my wife in the morning. We use "sploop," "sploosh," and "blip" as measurement for more cream or coffee and it tends to equate to how long it take me to say it out loud.
I could not explain to you in words what a "splosh" is, yet I can envision it exactly.
One of my liquid measurements for recipes is the "glug"
@@chrisclark9209 the Glug is absolutely a valid measurement
@@chrisclark9209 the glug is when the bottle goes “glug”.
If you watch Archer, you may not want a sploosh in your coffee. Or you might....
greg has to do an episode on ancient recipes for booze how tasting history did, but the twist is that greg has to put those ancient boozes into a modern-ish cocktail
I'd love to see that and also a collab with tasting history!

COLLAB! I applaud this idea
Story about Twilight anesthesia I’ve had a few surgeries in the past 5-6 years and the second one the anesthesiologist told me they were going to try twilight method. After my surgery I woke up like an hour later than expected. When they came to see me afterwards they told me that I had an “interesting reaction” to twilight. Instead of sedating me and allowing for the surgery to continue I started to try and get up because the surgeon said I needed to be repositioned so “Wait I can do that for you.” Anesthesiologist said it was the first time he’s ever had full conversations with someone under twilight and I have total amnesia from right around when he injected me with the cocktail to waking up afterwards. They had to put me under general anesthesia to continue the surgery because I wasn’t going out lol. Since then I’ve told every single anesthesiologist that I do not want twilight, and they always give me a look of “how do you know about this” and then I tell them the story.
Edit: oh and when I woke up I almost got violent and they were ready to restrain me because mixing twilight and general is a whole nother business lol
Who are you?
@@evanhayes5891 I’m me
@@prplprince8730 I'm gonna assume anesthesia was mentioned somewhere in the vid and I just skipped over it. That makes sense, after all.
How is that not malpractice? It sounds sketch at bare minimum
@@evanhayes5891 Lol yeah the twilight anesthesia was mentioned early on in the vid
When I had twilight anesthesia for an orthopedic procedure a few months ago, I woke up in the middle of the surgery and told the surgical team “my foot hurts” and they all scrambled because I wasn’t supposed to be conscious
That sounds terrifying. I went under for removing my 4 wisdom teeth and it just felt like i closed my eyes and then woke up with a numb face. I dunno if it was twilight cuz i didnt hear any talking but i cant imagine how freaky itd be to wake up in the middle of an op
No clue what I got for my wisdom teeth, but I did leave a message to myself on my own phone.
@@everythingsalright1121 it actually wasn’t as bad as you probably think. I was still loopy so I thought the whole thing was kind of funny
I have EDS so I handle anesthesia weird (it's actually recommended for those with the condition to remind their anesthesia team during pre-op talk) and was getting wisdom teeth and rear molars extracted and was laying there with the mask on my face during count out and just looked at the tech and stared into that man's soul like "shouldn't I be out? I'm not out" and he got wide eyed and held the mask tighter on my face like he was trying to smother someone with a pillow. I asked about it when I was in recovery and the nurse said "Oh. You actually remember that?"
I have CPTSD and needed to have an MRI which is on the No list at this point, so they gave me twilight. They thought for SURE I was out. ear buds in place, put me in, started everything up and I sat up and plaster myself to the inside of the machine. I am Blind. My husband is Very soft spoken., and finally had to Crawl Inside the machine, because I Can't hear him, to come GET me, and I Can't See him. It took about half an hour, for him to realize as I'm trying to crawl out the back of the machine, that I just couldn't hear him. Once he had ahold of me, I stopped freaking out like a switch had been flipped.
Meredith is just great, y'all bounce off each other so well and it really helps keep the pace of episodes and give it more direction. Truly enjoy seeing her featured more!
And Columbo is soo good.
Cute sona ^^
@@everythingsalright1121 late response but thank you!
I have never felt more seen then when Meredith said boxcar children. No one I know remembers the books
I thought she was just putting words together to be funny lmao
She's not wrong, it's kind of like if they grew up the stuff they'd be solving
Then you'll be happy to know that under DeSantis' brilliant book banning law in Florida, one school got rid of all of their Boxcar Children books.
Specifically I remember the oldest boy is trying to poach pheasant, and gets advice to soak raisins in brandy to bait the birds….why that stuck with me? Idk.
I'm gonna be real I read so many as a kid and couldn't tell you basically anything about it other than that they were homeless which I just realized was never really brought up in class lol
I love all the pre-1900s drink history on the show!
I reeeeally liked this episode. Just the two of you shooting the shit and making cocktails is such a comfy premise. Please keep them coming!
I used to be really stressed about anesthesia, but genuinely, having surgery made me less afraid of dying. I understand it’s different for everyone, but the absoluteness of the nothing I perceived under anesthesia-not even the *awareness* of having missed anything at all-was really reassuring. I felt groggy after I finally woke up, but after the fact it’s been a helpful experience.
(I also used to be worried I’d say/do something crazy after being under, but apparently I was just quiet and tired both times, so that’s another fear out of the way lmao)
When you're under anesthesia you're actually not completely out of it. Usually they use medications like versed that wipe your short term memory so you don't remember anything from the surgery.
Love that Meredith is featured way more in these videos, feels more casual and natural with some banter.
The accuracy of "as a gay you might like it" in reference to Tank Girl is 10000% spot on.
"You ever seen Tank Girl? As a gay you might like it" He's right, you know.
I'm sure everything will work out for Merdith and her partner, she'll definitely make a wonderful mother! Also I'd love to see a collab with bartalk and cocktaills!
I really hope to see a H2D collab with the Whiskey Tribe - the chaotic goblin energy from Rex & Brianna would pair supremely well with Greg once he's had a couple drinks 😂
Yep. That'd be a ham sandwich platter.
I second this

Could Greg get the clap in first? Hmmm
100% this
Greg, I had a vasectomy right in my PCP office about 12 years ago. They gave me something in an IV to relax, numbed everything up, and I was out of there in less than an hour. No pain, wide awake...was surprisingly simple.
Same here. I had one done just before getting married and it was an easy experience. Spent 4 days on the couch -- should have spent a full 5. A bit of swelling came in.
I don't understand this surgery, maybe if it is necessary to stop a life threatening illness or birth defect but just to stop sperm production? that its literally vile and sounds like slam metal lyrics. Why would a man intentionally want to have his nads severed? I'm gagging just at the thought of it. Birth control and condoms are a thing if you really need to have sex that often. Not trying to shit on you for doing what you want, just saying it's extremely excessive. Vasectomies used to be a sentence for sexual crimes against children and rape.
@@nitroxylictv I already had 4 kids with my wife and we didn't want any more kids. So instead of her spending the rest of her life on hormones messing her body up I chose this option. You don't cut anything off, it just stops sperm from coming out. Doesn't affect testosterone or anything other than you can't have kids
I had one last year and it was surprisingly painless. Didn't even need to use a clip. I was only on 1 day of rest and was able to go back to normal workouts on a treadmill after two days. Only local numbing and no twilight.
It doesn’t stop sperm production, it stops sperm delivery. Vasectomies were never used as a sentence for sex offenders because they have zero effect on sexual performance. You are wrong about this topic all over my comments.
Love Lori Petty in Tank Girl.
"How much did they pay you to spy on us?"
"Two dollars a fifTEEN cents!"
Every image/mention of Tank Girl I see makes my lesbian little heart just melt. I should really watch that.
My high school did Anything Goes my sophomore year (might have been junior year). I was in the pit orchestra, and rather than being down in the pit under the stage we were all in white tux jackets up on top of the set just out of the main stage lights. Since the show takes place on a cruise ship, the set was built to look like the side decks of an old time cruise ship, and we were the ship band out on the upper decks. It was a lot of fun, although we had to actually look presentable rather than the filthy pit goblins we were for most shows.
Also I love that Meredith has a cam now it's so fun to see what goes on on her end
Tank Girl was very popular with all the alternative friends I had. And definitely seen as gay-positive, but it was much more apparent in the comic than the movie. All sorts of fun watching Lori Petty and Malcom McDowel chew the scenery. :>
really enjoyed this "after party" of random drinks and chatting, this is what I like to do :)
I would watch Greg do all of Anything Goes doing every role at once.
Honestly: I do have nights where it just feels like someone pushed a button, and then I am just out.
Because one moment it is evening, then I blink, and suddenly it is next morning. It can happen in the middle of me doing something as well. One time it happened whilst I was writing an essay for school.
Besides not feeling rested at all, it also feels really uncomfortable not having any control over my own body, at what feels like the push of a button.
Yeah I rarely have dreams, that’s just about every night for me
Have you been assessed for narcolepsy?
@@brandonp7503 that was my immediate thought... Narcolepsy, or some version of epilepsy...
How's your blood sugar doing when you wake up after one of these episodes, OP?
@@andrewamann2821 Why would I go to the doctor to have my blood sugar tested, just because I don't remember falling asleep?
Besides that, I had it checked recently during a check-up. It was perfectly fine.
@@juletid99 I was asking about your blood sugar because a seizure is generally an energy-intensive occurrence, even if it only shows outwardly as just suddenly passing out for a while.
If you wake up with signs of moderate-to-severe hypoglycemia (feeling excessively hungry or thirsty, headaches, or shakiness, for example...), it could be an indicator that your passing out at inopportune times are maybe a bit more than just being tired.
Maybe I'm reading more into what you wrote than you intended, but, unless there are other specific driving reasons for what you're describing about these occurrences, you might want to talk to your doctor about potential neurological concerns.
I may be some random schmuck on the internet, and I know I'm grossly underinformed on your own situation (and I don't care to pry about it, either...), but having been saddled with my own issues with malfunctioning brain meat, as well as that of a number of my friends, growing up, I'd rather advocate for people ruling out conditions that could cause them severe harm if left untreated.

ive had to get heart surgery and be put under for it (surprisingly enough having your ribcage folded open is not something they want you to see xD) anyway as for interrupted flow of conscience: i do remember being driven/carried in a bed with wheels to the surgery room from my room in the hospital but my memory stops a minute short of actually getting there and its less "going to sleep" as "immediate cut to the next moment" more similar to pressing skip 30s in a youtube video and being in a totally new scene
Bro the snip is easy, I had no pain killers at all. Not even a tylenol or anything. Little freeze spray, small cut, snip snip, stitch done. 15min. You got nothing to worry about other than icing on day 1.
David Wondrich's book Imbibe, WHICH YOU LOVE TO CITE, has a run down of all the old timey measurements!
But also not really, because teaspoons and the like have no standardization.
Am I missing the main episode this is an after party for??
Ginger Rogers singing , "We're in the money" in Pig Latin is one of the funniest things on film.
It was impromptu too, she asked Busby if she could do and he thought it was cool
“ere-way inway the oneymay” classic
Good luck to Meredith and Meredith's Wife and their hopefully soon to exist baby!
According to cocktail historian David Wondrich, a dash is about 1/4 of a teaspoon. Personally I use that measurement when making old cocktails. It makes more sense when using syrups or liqueurs than the more modern interpretation of 1/8 Teaspoon. Here are some more old measurements used in cocktails:
- 1 Wine-glass (or sherry glass) = 2 Ounces
- 1 Liqueur-glass = ~1 Ounce
- 1 Pony Glass = 1 Ounce
But what’s a teaspoon? It’s another nonstandard measurement.
@@howtodrink Yes, you're correct, old teaspoons varied in capacity. However, if you take the median of the capacities you get closer to 5ml, the modern teaspoon. This doesn't take into account the average, but that would require more research to get a possible answer.
That's for dry ingredients, though! A dash in liquids is literally 10 drops - as in those old-fashioned medicine drop dispensers that were in the lid/cap of medicine bottles. Basically take 10 eyedropper drops, that should be about right.
@@snorpenbass4196
I did a test and 8 drops from a medicine dropper equals 1/8 teaspoon, 10 drops is a little over.
There is a set of measuring spoons, I think from Martha Stewart, that had a whole set devoted to "pinch dash, tad, smidgen." I find that interesting the older I get how they quantified those.
Anesthesia was dope for me. I had shoulder surgery a year and a half ago. I went in, they put me to sleep, and woke up with a shoulder that won’t dislocate. They tried to keep me longer after surgery but I wasn’t driving so I said no no you can wheelchair me out and I’m going home. I was certainly not ready to move as I got up from the wheelchair walking a manhattan block to my brothers car and realizing I certainly should’ve stayed longer but I made It safely back to Long Island and a year and a half later my shoulder has not dislocated!
If you ask an LGBTQ person how it went when they came out, and the answer is “I love my parents,” it went poorly.
Poorly might be a stretch but it didn’t go swimmingly.
Could have been worse
Can confirm
Yah can confirm lol
Truuuuuuuth
Fingers crossed for Meredith and her partner, best of luck with the ivf! And also fingers crossed that things go well for Greg!
The only time I went under anesthesia was when I was so stressed at taking my wisdom teeth out that the doctor was like, "you want to not be awake for this" and I just went "yes please" 😅 and I didn't wake up for any of the process and I still appreciate that
I like the part where Greg says he likes the Vermouth, so Meredith adds that they were given that one by a sponsor. I would guess there is a legal or policy compliance issue involved for anything they were given . Doing good work even after hours. Seems like there are hundreds of bottles in the studio, so I wonder if she just remembers where every single one came from?
Meredith is a DELIGHT, lovely to see them having such a good time here! xD
Love the Roundabout Theater Co. Anything Goes shoutout! I ran and called spotlights on that when it toured, it was an amazing show! Warmed my heart to hear it mentioned after all this time ❤
id looooove an episode on musical themed drinks, maybe a phantom of the opera drink 👀
And RENT
Unrelated to the episode but I LOVE the new overhead cam and the cutting board/drink mat/art deco thing (?) that you’re using now. Adds something to some of those shots that I didn’t know was missing
There's something so much more casual about the conversation, Meredith's presence here and everyone just mumbling and singing Everything Goes for the whole video. I think I got a new favorite HTD video!
I am obsessed with the Meredith time we’ve been getting, it’s the perfect balance. Wishing her a dash of luck with IVF (one dash = several gallons)
Yay, more Meredith is always a good thing
You spoke of the different scents of west coast pine forests. Have you ever experienced the area of Yosemite where the forest smells like chocolate? So surprising and delightful!
I went under for my wisdom teeth and it was exactly like I just edited out that portion of my life. Greg's description of how aware he is when asleep has convinced me that he astral projections his consciousness all night.
Omg I'm so happy. The brandy cocktail(the fancy one but served on the rocks instead of up and with boker's instead of angostura) and the morning glory fizz are two of my all time favorite drinks(which I did get from old cocktail books: the first edtion of the bon vivant's companion and harry johnson's bartender's manual).
I love that we are getting more and more Meredith. I think Greg has so much more fun when he can play off someone.
Also I love Meredith’s idea of making a wish list of drinks and then Greg makes them all!
yes!
Yes. My sleep is literally a timeskip. I might have dreams, but I don't experience them in the moment. I remember them AFTER.
Yeah I'm a heavy sleeper and I rarely dream so most of the time sleeping basically feels like a time skip, I have near zero environmetal awareness when I'm sleeping. Went camping at a family friends cabin when I was a kid, I was sleeping in a room with windows facing the back where they fell a huge tree in the morning and everyone was shocked that I slept through the massive tree trunk slamming into the ground. That being said I understand fear of anesthesia, not because of the loss of conscious awareness but anesthesia affects people differently, and is dangerous when administered incorrectly.
Glad Tank Girl is remembered, what a weird but great movie
I'll be real, yeah, I'm pretty much edit-cut-to-morning when I sleep. I mean, if a sound happens I'll wake up, but I'm not surveying my surroundings while I'm sleeping. I can imagine anesthesia would be pretty spooky to someone who's "online" at all times like that. I didn't know that was actually a thing, I thought it was anime bullshit
Same honestly. I have the edit-cut-to-morning sleep way more often than I dream and have a feeling of elapsed time when I go to sleep. I wasn't really aware that other people didn't just sleep like that too. The couple times I've needed anaesthesia for surgery, it's essentially the same experience as most nights I sleep and just figured that was how it is for most people too but apparently not lol
Also same, surprisingly.
I also sleep like that. Even if I dream, I almost always forget it immediately after I wake up, in which case it feels almost exactly the same as edit-cut-to-morning sleep.
Then again, I have horrible sleep habits and are rarely if ever well rested, so I'm not sure if this is normal or not LMAO
Forever bottle of bourbon? What's that?
Also, yes, Greg, when I go to sleep I'm not aware of literally anything around me unless it's particularly jarring. There's effectively no difference between sleep and anesthesia for me - the time I'm asleep is like a scene cut in a video; time just jumps.
You just keep adding the dregs of other bottles to it, so it’s your own personal blend that infinitely replenishes
Greg! I just went under for the first time last month, to get my thyroid out. From a philosophical perspective, it is truly a 'little death'. I was in the middle of freaking out like crazy, then came to in the recovery room the next instant. From the physical perspective, although it was instantaneous, my body had that feeling like it had truly rested, and waking up felt wonderful. I did not sob or laugh, but I was immediately in a fantastic mood. All I would say is, trust the docs. They know what they're doing. and it's like the deepest nap you'll ever have
Yes! I'm loving these after party episodes
I had my Vasectomy done in the back of a van (nicknamed the nutcracker). Instead of anesthesia they offered me some valium which worked wonderfully. The only bad part was being able to smell the skin burning as they did it.
I like how chill the after parties are. Glad you are talking to Meredith more lol

Cheers to a Meredith drink wish list after party in a year!
This is so good. I love the honesty with Meredith and Greg. More please!
This is my first time seeing an afterparty video, and it's a very good format! gives podcast-y vibes
Please do one of the drinks from Monster Prom, Camp, or Roadtrip
Absolutely! Especially since a bunch of them are twists on classic cocktails. (PS thanks for reminding me that Monster Roadtrip is out now).
Everyone has a different reaction to going under... personally it's no more than a hard nap for me. I pop back out of it quicker than I wake up on an average morning. Hopefully you both experience similar. (Freaks the nurse out when you start having a lucid conversation while being wheeled out of the OR, too. Bonus!) 😉
Greg, the first week after Thanksgiving is a great time to visit Disney. The crowds are small and the weather is great. We also like the first or second week of May to go as well. Less crowded, great weather. Enjoy!
I love cozy mysteries. The cat who books are fantastic!
Congrats on starting down the How To Baby road, Meredith! Hope everything goes smoothly and easily. ^^
(Also, “In olden days, a glimpse of stocking was looked on as something shocking, but now god knows! Anything goes!”
It’s on the Fallout 4 soundtrack, and thus on my phone. xD; )
Lol I thought you were just joking about not wanting to get pregnant 😂 then I was like OH ✂️
Having gotten my wisdom teeth out a couple months ago, and similarly being freaked out of my gourd about it because I'd never been put under before, it actually went pretty well. The worst part was just getting the darn IV in at all; I have thin veins, and the surgeon had to try the needle three times before he got it right. The constant flicking me in the crook of my elbow was really starting to hurt by the time he switched to putting it in my wrist, but once it was in, I was out so hard I didn't even remember falling asleep. Nothing particularly notable happened beyond that, just woke up an hour later, groggy as hell and with a mouth full of gauze, and shuffled my way to my mom's car.
From what i have heard on original dashes and splashes:
A dash leaves a line over the surface (a dash “-“ mark) from just short of one side to just short of the other by dashing the bottle neck toward the glass
A splash you tilt the bottle toward the drink then swing it toward it to make a heavier glug of liquid that hits and “splashes” the drink around the interior of the glass, sort of like a stick-less one pop stir.
So most likely dashes and splashes were both decently larger than they are now, however they also went into generally smaller cups and glasses (with some exceptions for places which prefer steins and similar large craft cups) so the “mix” was likely far more prevalent in the past than the actual body is now.
139 years ago. That sounds like insanity and I’d love to try it.

Regarding the sleep question at the start- 70% of the time sleep is time travel for me. I do not remember most dreams. Fun after party!
What a wonderfully laidback episode full of banter. Loved the dynamic and the glimpse into their personal lives
I love that Meredith is becoming more a part of the show. She has such a good vibe with Greg.
Ok ok Greg im sorry but I NEED to know what you mean when you say you’re trying to not get pregnant I’m very confused
I think he's saying he's getting snipped so his wife won't get pregnant
@@broken_queer_but_fighting8589 yeah that makes sense lol
@@darksentinel082 yeah
I wasn’t sold on the After Party format but this one was great to unwind with after work! Keep it up!
Can confirm that Tank Girl is a pretty gay movie.
Some guys have a great sense of how tastes go together. Around 1997, I was working as a doorman in a Worcester bar, and my friend, Jimmy - would come after hours - the staff would get tanked and watch the P&W freight trains (we were next to the yard). He brought a quart bottle of Lemon & Lime Crystal Light - and a pint of Popov Vodka - that's right, the stuff that was 99 cents a half-pint for like 20 years - and told the bartender to give him a couple glasses of ice. It's really good. Just wanted to share the moment, really - he's dead quite a while now - cirrhosis - but he could mix a drink.
Sooooo basically all those British shows like death in paradise and father brown with their fantastic backdrops, whimsical characters, and wholesome plot lines... Where someone gets murdered every single week somehow...
This was a great episode. We get to learn more about Meredith, we get slightly drunk stories and singing, rambles, and the synchronized "OH NO!" on the spill... Fantastic!
I looked it up because I thought maybe you were thinking of Sugar Maples, which are very common in my state of Washington, but then I learned that Sugar Pine is actually a thing! It ranges from mid-Oregon down into Northern California, which explains why I didn't know about it. So you're teaching me about horticulture as well as history (and booze)!
