Hi PokeOz, nice vid! A suggestion: 1$ now is not 1$ 4 years ago, so next time you make a similar past vs future type of vid - try to calculate inflation in as well. Your list would have looked even much worse.

Still remember those times you mentioned astral radiance was a 'sleeper set' ... And yeah, it avoided that reprint. We can argue which later Sw/Sh set has the better TG but astral has some incredible, undervalued cards. Happy I jumped in on a few at that
Exactly right mate, just got to hope the wins outweigh the losses. Although, they're not really losses. Vivid Voltage will still do pretty well long term once all this stock finally gets eaten into!

I recently picked up a sealed display of those Vivid Voltage Build Battles (so, 10 boxes in the sealed display). I was wanting to open just for the promos… but changed my mind and kept sealed because I’m hoping market sees value in them.

Hey Micheal, would be interesting to hear your thoughts on investing in sets that have already gone up but still have potential for growth.
Recently bought a team up, cosmic eclipse, unified minds & unbroken bonds booster box as I believe even though the entry price is high the tag team cards are one of the best ideas Pokemon has had in awhile so I believe they’ll continue to appreciate in the future vs say a lower entry point box that doesn’t have the same X factor
It's likely a one off mechanic. Those sets definitely still have some growth. They'll eventually hit plasma storm sort of heights and hover around there would be my guess 👌
The Alakazam V boxes along with others were re-packed (here in the UK at least) with much better packs. Some have Evolving Skies, Ultra Prism, and Cosmic Eclipse. Worth keeping an eye out for those sitting on store shelves!
That would have made them 10x better!
Lately I’ve taken a bit of a hit on jap151 but I’m still buying more at these low prices to cost average, I still believe it will do fairly well in years to come.

Great content those amazing rares would raise in value the rayquaza jarachi and rakoi will be valuable one day they are one of kinda cards the holo pattern is nice

I know you didn’t make the best return on some of these items but you are still up like you mentioned. I think that’s really impressive because the where you’re worst were during a time of uncertainty where there’s a lot of scalping and the craziness from the Covid era.

I also bought a case of Prerelease kits of Vivid voltage, back then i remembered it felt like a no brainer due to the facts that every second kit has a Zard or Lugia, however I still think it will slowly rise

In my opinion, there will never be enough Jap 151 to meet demand. It's unfortunate to those who paid 200aud+ per booster box, but eventually, it'll bounce back again. It's such a great set.🔥

Mike you have to consider inflation as well. You dollars don't go as far now as they did 4 years ago. Where did you get the display boxes, love them. Ps best investments next?

Could you do a video on which sellers you choose, reliable websites and how you tell if you got fake boxes? I know people like the investing aspect but also want legit cards to collect and want best value while getting official cards. I know TCGplayer sells some but also is a good place to know if you’re paying the right amount. Like the market price of silver tempest and lost origin booster boxes are in line with pokemon center prices right now.

I bought tons of Darkness Ablaze and Pokemon GO ETBS in the last 6 months or so. Buying bundles of them every week on eBay for $30-$34 shipped here in the US. $15 per ETB after tax and shipping idc what the set is i’ll stack those boxes. Same seller had tons of different sealed cases of V heroes tins, CZ tins and older tin cases that I was buying for $65 to $75 a case when people didn’t bid them up so high. Even grabbed a few booster cases of Fusion Strike and Brilliant around Christmas for $780- $820. Seller finally sold out about a month ago. Deals are still out there you just have to work hard to find them.

Only thing I dislike about pocket dex is you can’t specify 1st edition from unlimited, the scan feature didn’t work at all scanned the Umbreon vmax alt and it gave me 2 random commons or it wouldn’t read at all. I think they should list conditions and just go off the last sold on tcgplayer. Those 3 things would make it one of the top tier apps in the space.

Not sure when you bought your Vivid Prerelease Kit but I bought 2 cases at $300 aud each and they're closer to $800 plus now and once those dry up they will probably double again. 3rd ever Prerelease stamped Charizard will always be a much much lower print and POP then regular sets.
And the lugia! 👌
My worst one was buying a case of vivid voltage build and battles at the top of the market 2 yrs ago.

I wish I had learned the lesson of not ripping everything when ai first started collecting and I probably dropped about $3.5k on ETBs and build and battle sets and didn't have a goal. If I had that time again I would have just bought Pokemon Center 151 ETBs and Vstar Universe booster boxes. Fomo and unrealistic expectations are a hell of a drug.

My biggest mistake was buying etbs in the beginning back when i was new and all the poketubers were saying etbs were the best investment. Thats how i ended up with 12 evolving skies etbs and not a single booster box. My gains would have been substaintially more if I had done booster boxes unstead. Also had money parked in shining fates for way to long before i sold it for break even and decided it was just a lost cause. Besides that, ive had alot of sucess buying umbreon 3 pack evolving skies blisters, and 3 pack team up blisters when they were 45$. You win some and lose some.

2/ Pokemon 151 - $188 with shipping

Both of those products haven't even aged yet and they are very good for investment.
@@fdjizm but the EH gym box price never reach above $1400 while the 151 are having reprint right now... you can get it for less than $100... big loss thus far
To be honest, most of the products you listed were very good investments at the time. If they never had the massive reprint for darkness ablaze and vivid voltage, you would have been holding a gold mine there.

I still remeber VV etbs going at 80 quid on ebay, argis had them for RRP for the longest time. As soon as they sood iut they jumoed uo to 80 quid. 3 years later and my lgs still has the etb at £42.50. old mate was on about dariness ablaze , I i remeber when the etbs were £180 until the reprint.

@@pokeoz91 Too rate mate, Shane they aren't that price now hey! But I think they'll recover, it'll just take a while for the market to absorb them. The only people who should fear reprints are the scalpers and flippers, for the rest of us either dollar cost average, dump or hold your position for longer :)
What your time criteria mate ? Japanese 151 is now 115-125 …..50% drop or more ….you were recommending at around $300 …I bought a few at $250 so I feel your pain too, probably no as much as comics lol ….
I didn't include that because it's such a fresh set. It'll rebound after this reprint. My plan is to always hold for 5+. And now is a great time to dollar cost average on 151. Get that average under 160aud a box and you'll be laughing man!
What about shining fates and 151 if you bought before the reprint surely you lost there and what about singles and graded cards ? Easy to loose There
It's a hard one with 151, it was only bought 4-6mths ago so it hasn't really had time to settle into the market. It'll be interesting to see how it rebounds after this reprint though!
Yes I bought 5 @ $125 each i Think that's the bottom because if you think about it around $58 AUD is retail then you have 2 Middle men before we could possibly ever get the product then there's shipping and whatever other cost so yeah if you can buy @ $125 AUD then I reckon it's a sure win.
Darkness is a good looking box. Hopefully it will come good in the end. Will you take $36 for the build and battle 😂
No real chase card but hopefully charizard on the box will just make it a nice sealed collection piece. And nope 😉

A vivid voltage box went for $89 on ebay last week, thats when i decided to open my one box of it lol

I payed full MSRP for the Charizard and Mew UPC, four of each. I think I'll be sitting on those for a long time before I can make any decent profit on them.
The charizard UPC is back at retail for the most part and with the increase in SW&SH prices that will be up sooner than later. I bought 6 at retail and a few more around $100 so I feel your pain.
The 151 Mew UPC I learned my lesson, waited and bought the boxes online below MSRP shortly after release. Funny story, I was in Walmart buying 151 booster bundles and some guy was buying one of the UPCs they had for 151. I told him, “they are selling online for $90-100.” He shrugged his shoulders and put the box in his cart and walked off.
I heard that charizard UPCs are printed to oblivion.. dont know if it's a good investment

@@Bodonism it has a mixture of all the packs from SW&SH including 3 evolving skies packs. If the pack prices for the era start to rise, so will that UPC box. Even if the additional contents aren’t worth that much and regardless of print numbers.
My worst investment was FOMO-ing on a Pikachu on the ball for £80 (now worth around £30) Best one was definitely ES booster box which I nabbed at £110, so overall I'm definitely still up 😅

A much worse investment than a sealed Darkness ablaze booster, is an opened Darkness ablaze booster.

Do you think pokemon cards appeal to the younger kids?
I have two nephews (7 and 5) and both show interest when they see my cards, but when I give them some, they put them down and forget about them immediately.
I've seen kids go crazy about them but they can stocky jump on the next fad!

You win some you lose some. I'd say the worst investments Ive made are singles and not sealed product. Over time I've changed that any single I buy is for my personal collection and only sealed booster boxes are my investment.
Singles are a heap more volatile hey. You can get some big crashes but you can also get some epic wins!

I don’t think there’s really any “bad” or “worst” investment on here the Alakazam V box will take the longest to appreciate but it will over time. The rest will do fine long term. Yes they have done poorly recently but with time they will be fine. Could that money be better used elsewhere right now? Yes, but if you paid more for what you’d be able to get back for it now you might as well hold unless you really need to free up capital. I think the video should be 6 slowest investments. If you’re in it for the long game 10+ years these will technically all rise. The vivid voltage prerelease kits are amazing products with Lugia, Snorlax, Charizard being 3 of the 4 stamped promos. To me that’s a sign to pick up more, maybe I’m just crazy. I think vivid is a great set with a big chase in the rainbow chunky boy and I think the amazing rares will be sought after in the future specifically the rayquaza. Appreciate the topics for conversation especially on these older sets and investments as I think about these a lot as well.
Oh mate the vivid voltage pre release kits are awesome! It's funny it has all the signs it should perform amazing but hasn't. Just shows you can't always pick it hey!
How is Vivid lower than Darkness Ablaze??! 😂😂 Surely that'll change soon. Vivid still has a very solid chase card so I'd expect some movement soon. No chance a Pikachu set should be that cheap, especially one that's so iconic.

You're wrong about number 5 if you bought the one with evolutions in it.

You miss 100% of the chances you never take. Overall all Pokémon booster boxes/etbs increase in price in time. I believe it’s about finding a sweet spot around the bottom and waiting it out for the long haul. Imagine if you didn’t buy a case of Evolving Skies or Fusion Strike/chilling reign because you saw loses in your darkness ablaze position. Diversifying is the absolute best thing to do with any investment.
Should you have done anything different with your decision making processes? or is it just a case that the market didn’t accept the product? Learning is definitely half the fun when investing in cardboard. Looking at the pretty things on shelves is the other half haha
Also this market is garbage at the moment and there isn’t a lot of money in the hobby. The perfect time to buy some things on discount and hold for the next uptick. Just a market cycle that’s all.

Love all the Japanese 151 comments. The set hasn’t changed all the cards are the same. For some reason you liked it so much to pay $200 a box right? So what changed its the same product? In all reality with all the market manipulation that is going on with Sketchy Japanese resellers it’s going to be back to $200+ in no time. PokeNE pre sold 100K in boxes and made multiple videos bragging about it. Now all the sudden he’s dips and scrubbed all the JPN 151 videos he made leaving nothing but a post saying 90% off distributors canceled orders he could only get 450 boxes at a time”loss” and not sure when or how he fulfills the other 1500 boxes he sold already. Problem with Japan is outsiders don’t have any contact with legit distribution so these 3rd party resellers can tell buyers whatever they want with zero way to confirm. Like OnePiece pre orders are being cancelled and once it’s $200 a box then pallets will show up. I don’t think it was the reprint anyways but resellers dumping old hoarded stock drive demand and make way for the reprint stock in May like we were all told.

I don t see any investments here I see speculation and some serious hoarding in the background. Also why does it seems there are way more Investmentbros on UA-cam from Australia? You need to stop telling people these are "investments" because these are not investments since you are not a financial advisor. Do you think that buying stamps also is investing? No...its collecting not investing because the fact that a price is up does not mean you will be able to sell all your stocks at that price. NONE of you Investmentbros look at the market depth.

@@pokeoz91 Sp500, ETFs, Gold, Futures and options, CDs...etc depending on monthly cash flow. When I buy a dozen booster cases it is not to speculate but to have them in the future to be able to trade them with LGSes for what will be the current new releases saving on sales taxes and shipping. Exchanging a past booster box for a case of something new is just good planning. You should try it
