Wow that mic has that high end sizzle in spades, kind of reminds of a U67 in beehive mode.
😂 did actually love this video, your OP1 content is the best! If TE haven’t sent you both an OP1 field by now then that is literally a crime 😮

So that's what that thing does. Saw it a few times lately, looking at synths and was baffled by the price of the thing. Thought it was nonsense. Turns out I'm wrong!
    Love team Duck and Falcon!

I have an original OP-1. I do love it. But TBH, I don't use it all that much. I take it with me when I travel, and that is the absolute 100% best use for it, IMO. But the fact is, when I'm home in my studio, almost all of the functions of the OP-1 are handled better with other devices, save for the quirky stuff the OP-1 does, like the Tambola sequencer. I paid $700 for mine, brand new. I would absolutely not pay $2K for what is basically the same thing with some new features and better output. For my needs I'm not worried about super high quality stereo - I'm either using it to get creative ideas down quickly like an audio sketchpad, or I'm creating something on it just to use as a special effect or one-off sound. I don't need to master my record on it, nor do I need to have more flexibility than the original has, really. If you really, really want to "do it all" with one device, okay... but that's a lot of fiddling and frustration to do something purely on the OP-1 just because you want to prove it to yourself, or market it as "done exclusively on the OP-1". There are purists, of course - but those are the fanatics that will pay 2K for the new model. I think most of us are a bit more relaxed in our approach to music making than that.
And one more thing - let's be perfectly clear and honest about Teenage Engineering's quality record. The first OP-1 was plagued with screen and other QA issues, which are well-documented across the years on various online forums. Their reputation with getting old units fixed for customers is not good. Already there are people talking about issues with the new OP-1 field right OOTB. So given all of this, I wouldn't recommend paying almost three times what I paid for an OP-1 original for a new OP-1 Field. Honestly, unless you are traveling a lot and aren't near your studio, there isn't much an OP-1 can offer you that you can't find any number of other places, probably even right now with the equipment you have. Oh yeah, right... the FM radio. Well, that's worth $2K.

So that is what they charge you for, the packaging.... If they removed the insane marketing margins from this thing they could actually have a well priced instrument, instead it is an expensive toy.

More piggin' OP1 unaffordable nonsense. We want it but not at that ridiculous price.

As someone who has had the original since the summer it came out this is such a slap in the face. The built in speaker and mic and onboard keys are worthless -- just do away with them and lower the cost. The original suffered from noise via powered usb connections until the most recent firmware update (10+ years later). It sums the stereo input to mono, has no professional line levels and if I want to process / operate stereo tracks now I have to purchase the FIELD for 2K when the original was 750 USD. They gaslit consumers with the OP-Z only to put out V2 of the OP-1. The converters are shit and the amplification to noise level is still unusable! All I want to do is apply spring reverb as an effect which could be provided as a plugin. GTFO Teenage Engineering shouldn't still be in business.

Well Jack you literally asked for it, so...
These devices are so ridiculously overpriced, think about how much it SHOULD cost for a second. I can get a new laptop that absolutely outclasses the OP-1 hardware for about $500, throw in a launchkey mini and that's about $610.
That's $610 for an easily portable setup with physical knobs and keys as well as access to a full-fledged DAW, with the hardware to run more than 4 tracks of more complex synth plugins and drum machines.
The OP-1 is very good, especially at lo-fi, I'm not disputing that, but this product is too expensive for only producing some simple beats. By the time a new producer could afford it, their producing skills would be limited by the hardware and software.
I understand that the OP-1 is valuable because it's a curated selection of things presented in a way that makes them easy to work with, but that's not worth $400 more. (as I type this, I'm reminded of how MOOG revolutionized synths by cutting back from modular and providing a more simple, straightforward product that resonated with artists everywhere. this is similar but different and I can explain why if anyone likes)
That said, love the channel, love you guys, keep doing what you do and don't let anybody, especially me, tell you what to like.

I don’t know what laptop your looking at but the one I’d buy is 3k. The Launchkey Mini is not only ugly but about twice the depth, twice the height and notably wider… probably a similar weight given that the field is beautifully made.
I get it, it’s not cheap, but many don’t like using a lap top for music. It’s as simple as that really. These comparisons about what you can get for the same money are asinine. I can’t also get 10 Korg Volca’s, yippee!
If you love your 500 dollar laptop and launch key I’m sincerely stoked for you. I wish I liked using the computer… it would save me a fuck ton of money but it’s really not about that is it? Use what you enjoy.
