  • I've been using Google Maps to plot cycling routes through Illinois and now Indiana. The roads have been fantastic. Smoothly paved, with great scenery, and no traffic. I have loved every minute of each ride. 38 miles with 2600 ft of climbing.

    This channel is about all things trikes and travel. I have been riding a recumbent trike since 2005 and have been touring since 2007 all over the world. I have toured on 6 continents, in over 20 countries and cycled more than 75,000 miles. In 2020, I shifted from solo trike touring to solo RV travel. Now, I am back to riding with just my trike touring 9,000 miles around the USA..
    On this channel I have gear reviews, tips and tutorials but, mostly, I produce short travelogue type videos of my tours as I go. I travel with a DJI Action 3, Insta360 One X2, Skydio 2 drone and an iphone. Thanks for subscribing and following along!

    I also have an extensive journal on Blogger that goes into much more detail about the area and the emotional ups and down. The blog has a link to Garmin stats and a map of every day's ride. There are also a ton of pictures. You can find it following this link:

    Yeah, storing food when you cant hang is, is tough. But, if you use Odor proof bags, and a small latchable storage tub, that fits in your trailer, you should be good to go. Keep on pedaling and have fun, and stay safe

      I’ve had raccoons break into odor proof bags. They are merciless.

      @@TravelsByTrike As you go east, you should start finding good Sporting goods stores. What you need is called a "Bear Canister" Hikers on the Appalachian Trail, or AT are required to have them on certain parts of the trail. That should stop the raccoons. Or look for something called a Dry Box, that has a locking lid. Good luck and stay safe.

    When I got my first multi-speed upright bike, I was told that cross-chaining is very bad. But looking at recumbent tadpole trikes (with their very long chainline) makes me wonder... is cross-chaining really a issue on a tadpole recumbent trike?

    • @TravelsByTrike
      @TravelsByTrike  Рік тому +1

      I'm not sure I even know what cross-chaining is? I would call a recumbent shop for more info.

      @@TravelsByTrike Cross-chaining is when you ride in the biggest chainring - largest cog (or a smallest chainring - smallest cog) combo on a 3×9/10/11 derailleur drivetrain.

      @chrisridethatbloodything2044 Рік тому

      The chain on tadpole trikes runs over 1 or 2 cogs under the seat. Crosschaining is not an issue if your chain is long enough for big-big and the range of the tensioner enough for small-small.

    I can't believe that campground didn't at least have a well with a hand pump on it for some water. $13 for a campsite with no electric, no water and an outhouse. Glad you met someone that helped you with water shifty as he looked. Looked like a very enjoyable ride.

    • @TravelsByTrike
      @TravelsByTrike  Рік тому

      Yes, I agree. Don’t campgrounds always have water? There were no signs or a notice on the website warning about no water either. They did have big signs threatening $2000 fine for not paying. Weird, luckily, it all worked out.

    Glade that your trek has been going well. If you're coasting downhill at some 30 mph you must have paid the price on the other end. Electric is a beautiful thing on the latter. Safe rides for what you have ahead.

    *9:50** its wrong that you judged this man based on his appearance as if youre being superficial and are superior to him. To make matters worse, after judging him, he goes and does something kind and helpful for you. At your age, especially, you should already know better than to be superficial & judgemental.*

      You completely misunderstood. Yes, he was very helpful and this was also a very creepy encounter. As a woman traveling alone in a state forest with no else around his appearance was highly suspect and I didn’t feel safe. You can take your shaming some place else.

    I've really been enjoying your videos. Especially remembering my home state of Illinois that you rode through. I live in Georgia and have for nearly 35 years and own a motorcycle and bicycle, and have traveled on my motorcycle since retiring. I'm thinking of doing what you're doing, getting a tadpole trike and hitting the road. It's been a dream of mine for quite some time, and so happening upon your channel makes me feel lucky. It seems sort of brave on your part traveling in the spring, with such unpredictable weather, but I can tell you're adaptable though. Best wishes and continued safe travels.

      One more Sylvia.... Ryan Van Duzer, an avid cyclist has crossed the U.S. several times and has maps routing the best ways to go. He has northern, central and southern routes to take. May not do you any good now but you could access his information on Y.T. at your next overnight. Be safe.
