Maybe Mercedes should take some notes considering the exhaust sound of the new A45. The engine sounds decent enough but the exhaust is pathetic on that car.

@@xDigitalcrack Don't say bullshit. Audi OFFICIALLY said they will keep making the five cylinder engine and just make it compatible with newest EURO norms.

Since the valves are opening/closing at lower revs to meet regulations, getting an exhaust valve module which keeps the valves open throughout the entire rev range should fix this issue (to an extent). Obviously OPF doesn't help, but you could get around that with a more free flowing backbox or some sports CATs.
Yepp, fully agree. The effect of the closing valves at town speeds is most influencing the sound of these modern cars, the OPF itself has lower impact on loudness, more on power delivery.

Yes we have as we owned a MY18 RS3 and now a MY20 TTRS. There is a difference of course but mostly at standstill & townspeeds. Once you accelerate hard at higher speeds the new one still sounds very similar to the old. Best is if you watch this video and compare it to our latest RS3 video.
Audi has killed it with the facelift on the R8. My RS5 sounds like a Vespa compared to these beasts. Those are my favorite two current Audi engines. The 4.0 twin turbo V8 sounds nice but these just sing. Filter situation easy to fix with an exhaust 😋
John Jerrehian ...A6 is still a great car - and you never know, the unexpected might happen and you will find an R8 coming into your garage. God nytt år!
OPF is a special filter for gasoline cars to reduce the emissions of small particles (similar like with diesel cars). The OPF is not the main reason why cars are quieter but the new (and lower) dB regulations the manufacturers have to meet. So even without OPFs (like Huracan EVO) they still need to be quieter. You can remove it but it’s illegal and like removing the cat;)
Automann-TV thank you for the clear and detailed information. So in short, a new exhaust is a must for all new cars! I wonder how easy it is to remove the OPF too. Noise regulations i get, but it’s sad that the cars have to be restricted this way! This is very worrying. Where does it end.
@@swb7161 They just explained that removing the OPF is as illegal as a cat delete. In most EU regions your car will be seized if you are busted, or not approved by yearly technical examinations (unless you know someone who can just tick all the boxes for you). Then again, why worry? Get a pre-OPF car, and you won't have any issues with regulations as you can't change anything about the loudness of older cars. Hallo Automann, soweit ich mich informiert habe, lässt der Rev Limiter den R8 nicht über 3000u/min im Stand drehen und dabei sind die Abgasklappen zu. Just get a manually controlled unit for the valves so you can choose when to open and close the valves by yourself. That solves at least part of the problem.
