This song described my feelings when I was enveloped in depression. This songwriter, this band, as far as I know, grew up where I've grown up. A close friend of mine lived through suicide, and lived through being treated for it in the hospital. Her and her friend, who has now passed, escaped the hospital. They were eventually taken back by the police. The lyrics to Parson Brown literally seemed to illustrate the story that my friend told me, of her and her friend, running from the hospital, in hospital gowns, barefoot. She met the songwriter at a bar within the last two years ago or so. She came up to try to say hi-- he immediately waved his hand at her and dismissed her entirely. That shit broke my heart beyond any description imaginable. Fuck it. I still love this song. But it has so much more layers of depth and sadness now, in a way that the songwriter never intended.
Damm sucks to hear he was like that. I remember he signed my album when i met the band ( But i didn't meet him , they took it back to him) even if he is not always kind (really hoping like a bad day or something) know the other members 100% are.
