    I used to be one of these arrogant dudes who said "Never play with pre-painted minis." Today I love them. I love the collecting, the randomness and (as a teacher while correcting tests) use the boosters as little rewards. After finishing up a bunch of work I take a break, open up a booster, interview myself what i like about those minis and how I am going to use them before setting them on the corrected test as little guards to make sure the tests are not stolen. LOL. Keeps me coorecting more tests (because I want to open the next booster) and rewards me for staying focused.
    Apart from that I the minis themselves sometimes really inspire me to come up with adventures for my group to play. So it's an win-win thing for me.

      and THAT is an excellent way to open them! See.. this is what i love about our hobby.. there are soo many cool ways to approach it, play it, collect it, and it's all 100% the right way.

    I agree. I really like their minis.
    I remember the old Ral Partha minis , I still have some.
    My eyes are ok. I had both eyes done, luckily it wasn’t that expensive for me. My hands tend to shake when I try to paint now, so I really like the pre-painted minis. I’m not a fan of the clear bottoms with white or etched names of the minis though. Too hard to read. Same with the black on black bottoms too.
    I enjoy seeing what’s in different releases.

      @gamemasters  6 місяців тому

      yeah, my camera was having a hard time focusing on the names on the bottom too because it was a clear base. Sometimes their minis do have black bases so the contrast on the bottom makes it super easy to read, but overall, I'm digging the minis. On your eyes.. what was the recovery time?

    I don't own any pre-painted minis myself (yet lol), but I have thought about buying some for an upcoming game. I think the Wizkids models are great if you are looking for specific models at a decent price and them being prepainted is like an extra bonus. If (when) I get some I will probably touch them up with some washes and maybe highlights, but the paint jobs look good right out of the box. Also, please do a diorama! Terrain is one of my favorite aspects of playing DnD and tabletop wargames.

    You pulled some of the coolest looking monsters. Im hyped on the tabaxi demilich and ettin warlord especially because they can be used outside the planes, really glad that they reprinted most of the modrons in this set.
    Wizkids is great, they have sales pretty often. Ive been able to get some pretty expensive minis at good prices off of retail. Was fortunate enough to get balagos, arveiaturace, tarrasque, phoenix, and astral dreadnaut all from them at great discounts last year during a sale they had online on them.

      I've got a few more of these Planescape ones to unbox, I need to sit down and do that, was thinking of doing a live stream.. but.. I may ultimately just do a video of them.

    5:26 I dont recognise Goldy, there... But, damn, does it look kool!
    ...Also, I just looked up, because most stores dont have the Booster Boxes here anymore; the last ones to be in circulation was Fizban's; and the box was selling for $40... at the time, the exchange rate was 1AUD = .7USD... so that should have only been a max of $30. Its not really a wonder why stores dont carry them here anymore... :/

    Thanks for the unboxing, any chance of showing us what was in the rest of the boosters in the brick?

      I'd love to, kindav testing the waters with this one just to see if there is an interest there. Was thinking of possibly doing a live stream to open the rest.

      @@gamemasters I am sure there would be interest! I am sure being an "old grognard" like myself, you can tell a thing or two about these creatures, it has been quite a long time that we have seen most of these creatures in D&D (most have not been seen since 2E or 3E) and some of them like Rilmani or the Maelephant have never had any miniature representations before.

    Any thoughts on whether or not Wizkids will make the gargantuan size dragons ? You know… the chromatics and metallics

    I only play online these days, and if I run something in person any time soon (or play without the GM providing any sort of pointers, which is OK), I'm probably gonna make some tokens or paper minis. But I can get both points. Playing ttrpg, collecting minis, and painting minis are all separate, even though related, hobbies, and you may enjoy them in any combination. (Also I believe it's not related to the "map vs theater of the mind" debate, as you don't really need a proper map or minis to visually indicate who is where, but I know it's kinda controversial.)

    • @gamemasters
      @gamemasters  6 місяців тому

      I've seen many online plays that make use of maps with digital minis / tokens. 'course, those are kindav difficult to paint lol

    I can barely paint a wall without hurting myself. Painting a miniature is like performing brain surgery for me.

    • @gamemasters
      @gamemasters  6 місяців тому +2

      heh, it's a very relaxing hobby. i will say, however, that the benefit of me no longer painting is that I no longer am spilling paint.. no longer trying to figure out where to keep my collection of unpainted stuff, of course.. now it's being filled with all the prepainted minis.. but still..
