great video! thanks a million i'm french but i lived in swindon for a year in 1989, and i have great memories of this town, which i made my hometown for a year. too bad i could not stay in swindon and had to go back to france. this was the best year of my life! if i can make a suggestion, you should have shown a bit of old town, victoria road etc etc and some of the pubs as well: the donkey the bell the crosskeys and the printing of the evening newspaper and brunel's rooms
Great great video Mark, Looking back at how things were just amazes me. Im from Brighton oringally but now live in Swindon been here for 12 yrs. I love Swindon. Just great to see videos like these, we need more. :)
Thank you for your upload, which I really enjoyed. I am from Swindon, I left the country 20 yrs ago and a lot have changed. I saw the White House Bridges, and I remember that part of town but after seeing it from your eyes I was completely lost! Amazing really. Many thanks again, I do hope you get to make another upload.
thanks for replying. really looking forward to seeing some of old town as it is now. i have not been there for 23 years the bell pub is really great and this building must have an history because it looks old, maybe you can tell us about it
thanks mark i really enjoyed that i wonder what happened to the cinema long johns restaurant and library opposite then swing over to the college up to bee hive the castle I still have images of my old haunts wish i took more photos cheers from australia
Am born and bred in Swindon 63 years ago and left in the mid eighties. I like the simple way of comparing past views. I have one comment to make, and that was your view of Whitehouse Road bridges. In that scene you mention a wall on the right, That there was the old laundry for all the Swindon hospitals up until the sixties.
I'm sure I know you from a pub somewhere, probably Rodbourne or town. I like this video, nice to see someone else doing the past & present years. I've got loads from my Swindon Cable Archives (mostly on Vimeo) and this makes a nice edition. Thanks for uploading.
WOW THAT GIVES ME CHILLS, MY GRANDFATHER DIED IN THAT HOSPITAL WHEN I WAS 10. I REMEMBER GOING THERE. HAD SOME OLD PLAIN OUTSIDE AS I REMEMBER. YOUR COMMENT HAD MADE SOME FORGOTTEN MEMORIES RETURN.
I am learning Spanish and teaching Spanish speaking people English . I can confirm that this video has now been watched in Spain , the Canary Islands, Mexico , Peru , Colombia, Nicaragua ,cuba , Chile ,Puerto Rico ,Argentina And Venezuela .
Good for you I speak Spanish as my wife is Spanish been married now for over 50 years got married in Spain. Not too many Spaniards is Swindon, in fact I think there were more earlier than there are now. More is the pity. Use to have a friend Raquel Goodman but sadly lost touch with her and dont know where she is now. If you feel like a chat get in touch davejcollins@live.com
Glad you enjoyed it. your suggestions have been taken on board and i might have to do another vid showing more of old town and the bell pub thats very old. cheers.
Its a pity footage is hard to come by and getting permission to use even harder. i expect there is plenty but locked in some draw and not on the internet. i try to film a lot around swindon as todays footage is tomorrows history. really wish we had the tech when i was younger as i went to every swindon railway works open day but did not have cheap camcorders and mobile phones back then so captured nothing, only in my memory.
Are you talking about every Wednesday afternoon in the School Summer Holidays. I used to go on those Open Day tours as well as Sshhhh ..... I was a trainspotter
mbreak1 I had a book next to my bed with 'HITLER' blazed across the cover and she said "what's that about?"..she asked what the story line was and I told her it was about a bloke with a moustache who lives in Germany and becomes a famous leader and there's a big war and lots of people die, she wanted to know how it ends so I told her 60 million people die and he gets married and then shoots himself in the head and his mates burn his body, " sounds a bit far fetched!" she said as she stared blankly into space...daft as a brush she was!!!
Must admit I personally thought the earlier videos were better than this one. Too much trick videoing and echos were annoying. But perhaps its just me being Old and miserable

Im trying to find out about the old police station in cricklade road Swindon - pics, ghost storys etc. Can you help at all please? thank you.
Can't believe you didn't include a shot of Level 3!
+Anne Thomas You still looking for those pictures? My Grandfather was stationed there in the 60's.
Not sure if you still look at your comments, but do you have any footage/shots of the north swindon area before it was all built up like it is now?
still read the comments but dont have any footage, just wish the tech was around 30 years ago so the average person could capture lost history.
thanks for the cool comments on many vids. will make some more swindon ones soon when i get time and the weather cools down.
This is 10 years ago can we get another update
