My first son will graduate next year- we started homeschooling in the first grade. We figured out everything via trial and error with him but he is still doing well. My second son has been drafting behind him and is LIGHT years ahead for his age with very little effort. The best part of the whole experience is that we live a family centric life. I see so many people whose entire life centers around the school and its activities. Their money, time, even where they live are heavily influenced by the school..... and the results are a total crapshoot. When you talk to them they sound helpless when there is a problem (and there often are many).

In Wisconsin we took control of our schools back from the unions and now we are rebounding in quality.
The problem in the inner cities isn't the class size, it is the lack of discipline and in those urban left wing hell holes they have recently doubled down on stopping the discipline of specific students that in essence terrorize the rest of the class and teachers to where no one is teaching or being taught. In the 70's there was specific schools in Milwaukee where these unruly kids were forced to go to and it worked well for the majority of the population until a judge forced school busing and now the criminalization those particular people and their families have brought bars on the windows of all the schools and even the closing of a huge and popular shopping mall.

The education system is for the educators...the students are merely an inconvenience (/sarc off)

I spent eleven years teaching homeschooling classes for church and community. During those years I would show an 1855 McGuffey's sixth reader to parents considering my classes. They were stunned that 6th graders in the 1850's were reading at that level. Most of the reading material in that 6th reader is considered college level or even graduate level material today. That is how far education has fallen in our nation. We need a separation of school and state.

You can home school if you have the time and money. Most American parents do not. Usually both parents have to work just to keep the basic necessities for the family. Not to mention single parents. So, it is not that you are carting off your child to let the expects take over, and you think there is a factor if parents being brainwashed that they dont know how to educate their child. The fact that every child has the right for a an education. So, please, do not act like everyone has a choice on choosing home education or sending to.public or private school.

BS! Lots of kids are homeschooled even in single parent households. I remember seeing a meme which was called the "I can't homeschool kit". It showed a huge house, fancy car and other toys. Parents can homeschool if they want to - they have to make the commitment. Do you know why so many couples are working now? Because that's what "they" want. For a long time, men worked while women tended to home and hearth. Then women were ushered into the workplace (driving down salaries for men) and leading to inflation and the "need" of a dual income family. If one took a look at the big picture, some cutbacks would be worth it. You don't have to spend a ton on books and such ether - you could just buy used books or go to the library. There is no one way to educate your children. After a certain age, the kids could do their own work independently.

Jeez, Sam Sorbo should've done the same amount of research on plastic surgery as she did on home "learning"
