whatever do you MEAN? Two people can't eat a whole pumpkin pie? That's entirely wrong around here, haha!! Personally I think I could live on pumpkin pie and spaghetti, and I've said that most of my life. :D
EPIC, Todd!!😀👏 I had the same experience as a kid with the astronaut ice cream! I never forgot it! Your nephew won't ever forget how blessed he is, to have such an awesome Uncle! It was just priceless when you told him it was all for him, and he hugged the bag!😍 Way to go!! Those turned out amazing!! 🏆💞🌟🤗
I remember Tang, and the chocolate space sticks...I was born in '60...and we were told we would be eating a pill by now for food. I used to love the Hood ice cream sandwiches off of the truck in the summer. Northeast girl, heart in Dixie, live in Ireland! Creative vid, Todd. Good to see you busy while Rach is with the new blessing....💚
Astronaut ice cream was a favorite as well as Space Food Sticks. Haven't thought about those in years! Thanks for the blast from the past, Todd! Now where's my rocket pack, I need to go to the store...
Wow, she don't look that old, you are so lucky to have her Todd, I lost my mom's parents when I was still living w/ my parents & I never met my Dad's parents. My Mom passed 89' Dad 07', I'm 61. Your very lucky, enjoy time w/ her.
I take a carton of ice cream and just cut it into small chunks to freeze dry it into small bites. You have to work quick though! I have also done the small scoops before as well but I felt like it took forever! I love some freeze dried ice cream though! 😁
I haven’t done pie yet but pumpkin roll is sooooo yummy Yes a melon baller or a small cookie scoop is perfect for ice cream make sure you freeze your pans first fill a pan and straight to the freezer and then do the next tray
So for the pie.....my wife takes a ready-to-eat pecan pie kneads it all up in a bowl, kinda just mushy cookie dough type stuff. Puts on fd sheet like little cookie dough(silver dollar) comes out in airy golf ball type balls of goodness !!
Oh wow! I remember eating astronaut ice cream in school too! I’m about your age Todd, so maybe it’s a generational teaching moment lol. I thought it was so cool that we got to eat what astronauts ate in space 😋.
That pile of apple pie actually looked good! Lots of crust. Your nephew is so cute .. he was so cautious about trying it, then he really got into it - it looks like it ends up being a sort of candy, like malted milk balls.
Hey Todd, Pam from rose red homestead has the same freeze dryer and she did ice cream bars plus just regular ice cream. When u have some time check it out. She just sliced her ice cream and dried it that way. Anyways great video.
Hi Todd. What a video of science you put in the video. I am so glad you had fun with your families on Thanksgiving. I hope Rachel had fun as well with the baby. God Bless all of you. Please stay safe. Maria. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🍦🥧🍰👍👍👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I remember as a young Boy Scout going to a camping store on the way back from summer camp at Camp Palmetto in Saluda, NC and seeing the pouches of "astronaut ice cream" in the Mylar pouches. I was always intrigued, but was penniless after a week of hitting the "trading post" at camp.
I just put Co Jack cheese shreds in my FD, did Mozzarella and it turned out great. I had some Evaporated milk just pass the best by date so I poured it onto my trays and it turned out great(12 cans two batches). I love doing raw scrambled eggs and whole milk. I saw that Retired at 40 has put out tray covers that have stackers attached (for large and medium trays) they are in his shop.
I am a retired school teacher, and when we would study the things astronauts eat, I would go to OMSI and pick some of the freeze dried ice cream...Fun times
Is there a reason why you leave the wrappers on? I am debating on getting a freeze dryer. How hard is it to maintain it? Also energy cost? Thank you in advance.
Now when u say to run it for an hour instead of just the 15 initial minutes, do I select start process or do I let it run for an hour in the initial freeze option before you load up 🤔
Long term, they need to go into Mylar bags with an O2 absorber, and then heat seals the opening. Like that, they'll last for like 20 years. I just put this batch into ziplock baggies since they will be consumed quickly.
No way 😁 Only if you lived in Alaska in the summer and it was sunny for like 24 hours. During it's cycles over a 24 hour period, the Freeze Dryer averages about 500Wh of consumption. Which means the Jackery 1500 would run it for about 3 hours. A full 24 freeze drying cycle averages about 12,000Wh.
Do you know what temperature you had the freeze dry process set at? I tried some of these from Aldi's and they turned out OK but seemed to start to melt as the drying started. I had my temp set at 120ᵒ F. I'm thinking maybe lower. Funny I found your video, as I just bought the same ice cream sandwiches that you have here. Hope you have time to answer. Mark M.
mine is set to default, which I think is 120. make sure they were really frozen, and the freeze dryer was super cold before I put them in. Left it chill for like an hour before I put them in.
Honestly I just would’ve used ice cream the ice cream sandwiches do not compare to just the freeze dried ice cream it’s a totally different taste different feel and I only eat the freeze dried ice cream not the ice cream sandwiches which unfortunately is very hard to find nowadays
Your grandmother is lovely. 93! Wow, she looks fabulous.
Your nephew enjoyed his treat from you. Have a great week.
Your nephew is gorgeous!! Loved how appreciative he was of your gift too. What a sweety!!
Your nephew is adorable, god bless you and your family 🙏🏽❤
whatever do you MEAN? Two people can't eat a whole pumpkin pie? That's entirely wrong around here, haha!! Personally I think I could live on pumpkin pie and spaghetti, and I've said that most of my life. :D
LOL...That's funny.
Exactly!!!! This is silly, kinda like a recipe that called for "leftover bacon." Still don't know what THAT is 😂
I think that apple pie just needs a big bowl with lots of vanilla ice cream, a spoon and ME! 🤭😋😋
Awww! What a winner for him! He loved it!

Same here, that’s what I remember from those years.
The freeze dried ice cream looked awesome Todd. Glad you got to spend time with your Grandma and family. Hope you had an awesome Thanksgiving!
Great Memories !
Looks like he enjoyed it !

Thanks for sharing. Hope your holiday was nice.
You sure did your homework. The look on your nephew's face was priceless.👏👍🍨
Looks like the food in the MRE's we had in the Army.
Wow, I’d like to make my powdered broth too.❤
Your grandchildren are going to love those ice cream sandwiches.
I remember this in class too
When Rachel's away Todd will play!!

Pasty bag and make Dippin dots lol

So creative!, love it!,
We have a HR also. People looooove the ice cream and think it's so fun!
I think that fruit cocktail is the best freeze dried item I've ever had! 💖💗👍🤗

U come u with such fun videos!!
That pile of apple pie actually looked good! Lots of crust. Your nephew is so cute .. he was so cautious about trying it, then he really got into it - it looks like it ends up being a sort of candy, like malted milk balls.
I have seen apple bite bites freeze dried. They mash the whole pie together and then use the small
Cookie scoops to make the bites!

Thank you so much Todd. Have a wonderful day. Maria. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Todd: Two people really can't eat a whole pumpkin pie.
Me: 👀 Ummm..... That. Is. False. I just ate one myself 🤣🤣

You could make a pumpkin pie shake, that way it gets blended. Nancy from nebraska
Can you please tell me where you got the screen tent Rachel uses for her brassicas in her garden?
Thank you for the information, my ice cream sandwiches exploded on the bottom shelf only and I couldn't figure out why
I had some in the late 70's from the Armstrong Air and Space Museum in Wapakoneta, OH. It was definitely unique.
I recently bought some thrive life freeze dried pineapple and the consistency reminded me of that very same astronaut ice cream!
Freeze dried pineapple is awesome! We've done some before
What settings did you use for the ice cream sandwich !!

We personally enjoy the fat boy brand sandwiches and Johnny pop Popsicles.
I never thought to leave the paper on. 🤔
Now when u say to run it for an hour instead of just the 15 initial minutes, do I select start process or do I let it run for an hour in the initial freeze option before you load up 🤔
Freeze dried ice cream sandwiches aren't only nostalgic, but they are seriously terrific! Do you ship?😂
How do you store it long term? Thanks for sharing your experiment. -Melanie

@@1870s Wow.. Nice. I wish we had a community Freez Dryer. I would love that . Thanks for responding. Have a good day.
If you don’t mind me asking, how old are you? It’s been neat watching the videos you e been making the last several days!
I'm 50 for the next month and a half or so.
Fudgesicles freeze dried are the BEST! Try it! You won't be disappointed! 😋
Thanks for the tip! I'll give some a go!
Do you have to cut them in pieces?
Where did you get your tray stackers?
I got mine on Amazon - amzn.to/3p6yH8M
Why do you leave the wrappers on?
easier to handle them
Can you effectively run the freeze dryer with you solar powered generator? Just curious

Silicon ice trays may work for individual ice cream serving
Great idea!
Or silicone muffin tins.

These things are so good but they’re five dollars for one ice cream bar
Watch the UA-cam channel retired at 40. He's a channel that has a lot of freeze dryer testing.

Off subject...How about that football game?
Pretty great game indeed!
I bet the finicky nature of the ice cream is because of the fat content...
