About The Dead South & their new album Sugar & Joy:
A rock band without a drummer, a bluegrass band without a fiddle. To the gentleman of The Dead South, a self-styled 4-piece string band from Regina, Saskatchewan, it's about how, not what, you play. The Dead South's combination of cello, mandolin, guitar and banjo has all the hallmarks of a group tuned to bygone times, but The Dead South find distinctly modern bathos in this old time rigging.
Sugar & Joy is the band's first album written & recorded outside Regina. Produced by FAME Studio-trained Jimmy Nutt, a longtime member of the Muscle Shoals music scene who recent credits include a Grammy for his work on The Steeldrivers, Sugar & Joy is The Dead South's tightest, weirdest and most exciting studio work yet.
The Dead South's original and current lineup includes the gnarled baritone of Nate Hilts, Scott Pringle on mandolin, whistling cellist Danny Kenyon and virtuosic banjo player Colton Crawford. The 4 piece, string-driven approach puts the interplay of unique and versatile voices front and center, with Hilts, Pringle and Kenyon all sharing lead vocal duties.
About OurVinyl:
OurVinyl films creative live performances with both emerging and established musicians. Artists they've worked with include Tyler Childers, St. Paul and The Broken Bones, Ed Sheeran, Trevor Hall, Allen Stone, Dispatch, and Donavon Frankenreiter. They always do their best to push the production envelope by filming artists in unique settings that complement the music while capturing studio quality audio regardless of the setting.
It’s all live, all one take, no punching in, no autotune, no cheating. Just high energy and true authenticity.
Lyrics:
My baby wants a diamond ring
My baby wants a diamond ring
I can’t afford that diamond no more
My baby wants a diamond ring
My baby wants a string of pearls
My baby wants a string of pearls
Gotta get on that track and make them dollars fast
My baby wants a string of pearls
Chorus:
That gold is gonna be mine
That gold is gonna be mine
With a pistol in my hand
Gonna get it where I can
That gold is gonna be mine (x2)
Old William has a stash of gold
Old William has a stash of gold
So I went to his place with my pistol and my grace
Old William had a stash of gold (x2)
Chorus (x2)
My baby wants a diamond
Baby wants a diamond
Baby wants a diamond ring

This is the music that plays every time Clint Eastwood enters a room.
Perfect. That's perfect.
I thank the universe that I found this music. It's absolutely wonderful!
Every year I have one favorite song above all others. This is the one for 2020.
We're honored to have brought it to you! Thanks for watching and listening this year!
I am musically illiterate but I realized I like rhymes within consecutive verses or even rhymes within a verse. This song has both.
these guys are really fantastic, not a day goes by without listening to them, only good vibrations... thank you ♥️
Glad you dig this! They're some of our favorites!
I watch this video at least once a day, what do I love these boys, what talent, what generosity and what good humor, from France, I carry you all 4 in my heart, all the time! ❤️😉❤️
I prefer this version to the album one.
We like to think of these session performances as a complement instead of a competitor to the studio versions. Our hope is that you'll be able to enjoy both--each being a unique exploration of the song. (But we're also REALLY flattered that, if you had to choose a favorite, you'd choose us 😬 ) Thanks, Andy!
@@OurVinyl Gotta say as much as the originals are AMAZING, these sessions really bring the band to life. The editing, the sound, the backdrop, the band's performance, I don't think I've ever seen anything come close
I really like this recording of the song! The time signature change or w/e it’s called at 2:55 always gives me goosebumps.
I'm in love with this band 💙
My Favorite Song ❤️
Definition of perfection!
Magnifique version! Un groupe unique , un talent exceptionnel. 👍👍👍👍
THAT GOLD IS GON BE MINE!!

We're honored!

Love love love
🧡🧡🧡
That's so damn cool, knew I'd love this as soon as l took a look at these guys.
Hope you get The Dead South back for more.
Us too! Thanks for commenting!
すっごく格好いい!!
♥️ The ♥️ Dead ♥️ South ♥️ I ♥️ love ♥️ you ♥️
Another version better then studio, guitars, vocals are deep, you feel like you're in the room with the sounds being more surround then the studio version. Tremendous job, if you like what you heard support what you heard I will.
Oh my fucking god!! That´s a fucking great awesome fantastic wonderful and incredible job guys!!
New soundtrack to Gold Rush TV show
Warning: this song may be the cause of addiction.
Any idea what kind of pick Colton Crawford is using? I've never seen anyone playing clawhammer with a pick.
I wish I didn't know what I know about Danny now though 😢
Can I just say that whoever your audio engineer is: pay them more. My main gripe with modern folk music is the mixing and mastering, but every single one of your The Dead South releases makes the studio version sound like it was mixed by a man with one ear.
We aren't out to compete with studio albums from our featured artists, but we do appreciate the comment about our engineers! We've got some really talented folks on the OurVinyl team. Cheers!

You know it's a good day when you see one of your favorite bands on ourvinyl
These people really move me...and it's not easy being moved after age 75.
Lots of love from Serbia :)
Outstanding sync between the boys
Can't stop listening,
Me neither :D
One of the most underrated bands of our time.
They are fantastic (I'm fairly new to them) but I'm sure that honor would go to so many other bands!
Nice
