About The Dead South & their new album Sugar & Joy:
A rock band without a drummer, a bluegrass band without a fiddle. To the gentleman of The Dead South, a self-styled 4-piece string band from Regina, Saskatchewan, it's about how, not what, you play. The Dead South's combination of cello, mandolin, guitar and banjo has all the hallmarks of a group tuned to bygone times, but The Dead South find distinctly modern bathos in this old time rigging.
Sugar & Joy is the band's first album written & recorded outside Regina. Produced by FAME Studio-trained Jimmy Nutt, a longtime member of the Muscle Shoals music scene who recent credits include a Grammy for his work on The Steeldrivers, Sugar & Joy is The Dead South's tightest, weirdest and most exciting studio work yet.
The Dead South's original and current lineup includes the gnarled baritone of Nate Hilts, Scott Pringle on mandolin, whistling cellist Danny Kenyon and virtuosic banjo player Colton Crawford. The 4 piece, string-driven approach puts the interplay of unique and versatile voices front and center, with Hilts, Pringle and Kenyon all sharing lead vocal duties.
    About OurVinyl:
OurVinyl films creative live performances with both emerging and established musicians. Artists they've worked with include Tyler Childers, St. Paul and The Broken Bones, Ed Sheeran, Trevor Hall, Allen Stone, Dispatch, and Donavon Frankenreiter. They always do their best to push the production envelope by filming artists in unique settings that complement the music while capturing studio quality audio regardless of the setting.
It’s all live, all one take, no punching in, no autotune, no cheating. Just high energy and true authenticity.
    Lyrics:
Cry baby cry, crying all about
Thinkin’ bout missin’ that banjo sound
Finger pickin’ good and greasy bound
So you run, all the way back to momma
    To grab your gun
You keep playing in your mind
That mando’s playing time, after time
Those backchop beats are feelin’ just fine
Take it away, foot stomps and gravy trains
    Where is the heart?
Sun down day turns to night
Angel’s singing, it sound just right
Demon’s playing, there ain’t no fight
    You pray
    This music will go away
    You pure old heart
I’m feelin’ salty but I’m drinking sprite
    That tangy banjo’s sounding
    So dang bright
Heavy hearts to an empty stage right
    You say
    There is no bass today
Low day don’t feel so right
Sun down day turns to night
Angel’s singing, it sound just right
Demon’s playing, there ain’t no fight
    You pray
    This music will go away
    You pure old heart
Blue trash don’t touch my art
We want it back to how it was at the start
Dead on the tracks why did we depart
    You done?
    Cause you cannot take away
    What’s in our hearts today
    What’s in our hearts
Sun down day turns to night
Angel’s singing, it sound just right
Demon’s playing, there ain’t no fight
    You pray
    This music will go away
    You pure old heart
Blue trash won’t call it art
They want it back to how it was at the start
    Dead on the track
    Why did we depart
    Well you done?
    Cause you cannot take away
    What’s in our hearts today
What’s in our hearts this way
    What’s in our hearts

These boys are probably the best thing that can happen to Bluegrass and Country Music in recent decades! I mean it! Splendid and witty sound, catchy lyrics and surgeon-like precision mastering those great instruments. Lads, you should visit us here in Bulgaria if you can, and I think your fanbase is ever growing. Cheers!

This one might just be my new favorite song by these guys.
Would love to see a live album from them. There’s a lot of songs I’d love to hear, basically the entire Good Company album, except “in hell I’ll be in good company”, I listened to that one WAY too many times.

Times change and so does the music. Maybe you're labeling this as a specific opinionated genre when it's not, and it's disappointing you because it isn't what you want it to be. 🤷‍♂️

    • @mrsockmonkey1969
      @mrsockmonkey1969 4 роки тому

I listened to it again and yeah it still sounds like hot garbage. Cmon people where is the musicianship here? Have any of you ever listened to a real mandolin player like Chris Thile? Or ever heard of Bela Fleck? This kind of “performance art” is pure style over substance. Most of you aren’t musicians so i don’t expect you to get it. This is simplistic dribble and frankly doesn’t rise to the level of mediocre. Like it because all your PBR drinking friends with handlebar mustaches dig it lol. Call it whatever you want but don’t pretend it’s good please you’re insulting generations of great artists who excelled on their instruments and inspired others to want to play well. When I hear stuff like this I want to burn my ears off.

@@mrsockmonkey1969 So what's your band called? You're implying you're a musician so surely you write original "good music" then right? Show us simpletons how good the music is that you write.
