  • This is a PART 2 from my previous video on What To Look For Expect / When Owning Or Buying A Cadillac Fleetwood 93 96
    Turns out I missed a few things, but also came across several problems that I had left out of the last video

    The car is supposed to idle around 900 rpm. That’s what the 09 means on the display.
    When you put it in drive it puts a load on the engine and thats why it starts to run poorly. I saw in the video that when you did that the rpms went between 650-750 rpm or on the readout it showed 06-07. I told you I’m my last comment that I thought it was the Opti but usually if an Optispark goes bad the car won’t drive smoothly. You have an oil leak on the back of your engine between the block and the intake manifold. It’s possible that you have a vacuum leak between your intake manifold and the cylinder head. If you go rent a vacuum gauge and hook it up to a hose connected to your intake manifold the gauge will
    show you if you have a vacuum leak. If you do, the needle on the gauge will bounce around
    and it will show low vacuum. Your engine should have between 17-20 inches of vacuum.
    You might want to try that first because it’s an extremely simple test and it won’t cost much. Like I said before, usually when an Opti is starting to die the engine will run roughly at all rpms. The fact that your engine smooths out when it revs up above idle is sometimes a symptom of a vacuum leak. You can also check for an intake manifold vacuum leak by lightly spraying carburetor cleaner at different places on your intake manifold. Focus on where it mates to the cylinder heads and anywhere there is a gasket or a hose. If the engine speeds up it means that you have a vacuum leak because it’s sucking the carb cleaner into the leak and being burned in the engine as fuel.
    Try those things first. It’s always better to start with the simple and easy things first.
    It might be an easy fix.
    I hope this helps.

    I have a 95 Fleetewood, with the VP4, and 2 Roadmasters, one a 94 and a 95. On the 94 a couple of years ago I was having a couple of weird problems.
    The engine would start and run fine, but if I floored it, it would start to miss violently just before the 1 - 2 shift. I figured the opti was going or the fuel supply was restricted. New Filter, not difference. A couple months later a new problem came up.
    If the engine didn't fire within the first revolution of cranking it would appear to flood. Sometimes it would start if pedal was held to floor, but it would run very rich, shake and belch black smoke. If thought I might have a stuck open injector that was draining the fuel rail and flood one cylinder. Or the opiti was acting up.
    Sometimes it would crank and crank but no start, but when I would release the key it would appear like it was Dieseling, and the smell of gas would be at the airfilter box. Other times it felt like it was trying to fire but wouldn't catch. One time I saw what looked like a puff of smoke/steam appear from the around the headlight area. I had my brother watch the engine as I cranked it, he said when I released the key after a no start, the engine would do the diesel thing, but it reversed its direction. I guess that could explain the puff of Smoke and gas smell. I replace the spark plugs as they were at least 8 yrs old. They were worn, but none were fouled or even sooted. One day while it did it's nor start routine it back one extremely loud backfire, mist or smoke came out from the hood- fender gaps and it smelled like raw gas. It fired up a minute later, so I took it to my cousins shop and told them to pull the injectors to check them. About 10 minutes later the Mechanic comes over and says he has something to show me. he points at the drivers side of the engine and says "That orange isn't supposed to be visable" The Valve cover had deformed and the gasket was pushed out. They were going to rob my 95 for a valve cover, but i got them to straighten the reshaped one and a couple of spot welds it was fine. Engine was running fine, no codes, or leaks. A week later, I decided to check the wires going to the opti, and I pulled the Hi Tension wire between the Opti and the Coil. The end in the opti was fine, the end on the coil, had no usable connector in the boot, or conductor just the boot. A new plug wire(intended for #2, but was used for the opti-coil) fixed the both the weird starting issue, and the Hi speed miss. I just was pissed at myself for not checking that wire earlier. The 94 has 270,000 on it(cost me a cash outlay of $100 to buy it, 10 yrs ago), the 95, 400,000(engine was replaced with brand new LT1 at 300,000/ The Caddy has 14,000 on it, I put 8,000 on it since 2015, never gets driven in winter.

    Very informative video I was considering one of these or LT-1 powered roadmasters and this gives alot if things to be aware of. However you can get a set of monroe air shocks for just over $60 for the pair with a manual fill line for all of about $12. There is a reason no cars leave the factory with coil over "load lifter" shocks. For comparison the monroe load-lifters alternative to their air-max are around $110 for the pair.

    Make sure the vacuum line to the opti spark has suction. It keeps moisture out.

    I have owned a 95 Flt Wood Brougham for 17 years and just love it. The car has 70k mikes on it and I have 80k years on me thus the problem , I'm having trouble keeping it
    up and have been thinking about finding a new home for it.

    Well you've managed to acquire a Fleetwood with just about everything having gone wrong with it all in ONE car! At least you didn't have to use several different cars to make these very informative and appreciated videos! Yes, do yourself a favor and buy a low mileage southern car to drive ONLY IN THE SUMMER and use your grandfather's car as either a parts car, or to sell or part out .You'll be money ahead. I have owned over 70 cars in my life. The first 58 were all cars made between 1950 and 1972. Then I got into Auroras and other Northstar cars. And now I have settled on 94-96 Roadmaster Limited Sedans and Fleetwood Broughams. These 94-96 B and D body cars are the best cars I have ever owned. BTW, none of my 6 Northstar cars ever had the problem with the head bolts coming lose. But I feel I would be tempting fate if I ever bought another one!

    I really enjoyed this and part 1. They are very informative videos and I’m sure they will help someone thinking about buying one of these cars. I love mine. It’s probably one of my favorite cars. I hope you can get yours running well again.
    I noticed you have the climate controls from a Buick Roadmaster.
    Did you do the swap?
    Do they let you control exactly where the air comes out of the dash?
    I did the swap in my Fleetwood but it still wouldn’t allow me to select between the floor vents and the dash vents. It was disappointing because that’s why I did the swap in the first place. I just ended up putting my original one back in because it kept falling off the mounting tabs I made for it.
    I hope you and your family have a Happy Thanksgiving!

    After watching part 1 and 2 of your what to look for...i'm happy i'm owning a late 80's model, it seems like they made a lot of comprimizes to quality with this new body style.

    My 3 Fleetwoods and one of my Roadmaster all had working air ride shocks. Nothing wrong with they systems or the shocks. However I CHOSE to replace these perfectly working systems with coil-overs. I recommend the coil overs highly. I also put Monroe Severe Duty shocks up front. I hate a soft-floaty ride.

      Thank you for your comment. This is my first cadillac so my experience with previous model years is limited. It really boils down to proper maintenance every old car is going to have problems too bad the previous owner of this car didn't take better care of it or else I wouldn't be having stuff breaking all at once

    Hi....Thanks for the video & I also have a twin Fleetwood of ur's & I greatly appreciate ur tips.....I'm wondering if u happen to run n2 a problem I got.
    My problem is that when I'm @ park or @ a coming/ complete stop the "oil pressure light" blinks & as I drive away it goes away...any tip?

    • @vcamnowaa
      @vcamnowaa  6 років тому +1

      Solo G I actually did have that happen to me. I had the oil pressure sensor replaced and the problem went away

    • @ryanhodges7101
      @ryanhodges7101 6 років тому +1

      Solo G It’s possible that you might have low oil pressure caused by a worn oil pump or worn main bearings. If I were you I’d check your oil pressure with a mechanical gauge. What you are describing is definitely a sign of low oil pressure because when you accelerate the oil pump spins faster and that raises the oil pressure back up. It’s totally possible that it is the switch but it’s always a good idea to check it with an oil pressure gauge to make sure. I have had cars with the same problem and I ended up replacing the pump. It’s very important to check it out because low oil pressure can severely damage your engine.

    Does your Cadillac by chance have the "trumpet horn" option with 4 horns. I have an 03 deville and had to add the extra 2 notes to it and it sounded like yours. They discontinued it I believe in 2000 unbeknownst to me as all the Cadi's I'd been in happened to have had it.

    One more thing-
    Have you checked for any trouble codes?

    • @vcamnowaa
      @vcamnowaa  6 років тому +1

      Hi The only thing that I get is the ABS Wheel speed sensor short code and a steering position sensor short code but nothing that has to do with the engine. I'm just waiting for the check engine light to come on so I can see if it gives me a diagnostic code

    Brake lines

      @vcamnowaa  6 років тому +1

      Just had them blow last week lol. Reason why I never mentioned the brake lines in the video as part of what can go wrong is because that issue can and will happen on any car especially if it's in a country that salts the roads
