Fun fact...The glass in the entrance of the Efteling has every employee name on it.
I'm always very proud of "my" park..I live 10 min away and i am now 44 years old...I grew up with and in this park and a lot has changed of course..So i am always happy when people have a great time at this park and it is a great park..So thank you for a lovely vlog.

I have only been there a few times, about 3 times or so in total, because I live in Friesland. The last time I went, I must've been 12 or so years old. I really miss De Efteling, I wanna go there with an English speaking friend one day to share it's magic with her.

Not just to the Dutch, I have been coming here since I was 4!
First memories was when I was 3. Can't remember the very first ride I went on when I 1st went there but it was def either De Bob, De Oude Tuffer, or Polka Marina,-Will have to ask my dad tomorrow
I went there every year from when I was 4 till 26, So I saw the park change and grow throughout the years
So I know I didn't g as much as Dutch people probably goin there many times a year. But as I said still saw it grow
      I'm from the UK in England-Kent :-)
And is one of my fav Theme Parks in the world!

@Superpiair1 Hey there my friend, Whereabouts in Holland you from :-)
I wasn't 3 when I went on Bob I was 4, I said my first memories in general is when I was 4 but first came to Efteling when I was 4 lol
So you said-The fairytale theme is the pole on which everything else revolves (is that the correct english word?) No not pole but you would say is the centre or the focus!
Yea Anton Pieck is a genius, Yea I have heard about Disneyland coming to Efteling to take notes :-)
Well where Efteling is though not a city but a town-Kaatsheuvel nearest city is Tilburg which must be where you from then??
Have you been to UK, And if so whereabouts?

The reason the food came before the drinks, is probably because they needed to switch kegs at the bar. Weisener kegs always give the bar people a hard time and are known to stutter when you first use them.

Glad to see you had a good time here at Efteling.
Some background stories for some of the rides:
The Haunted Mansion is based on a local legend. It's about a gang of robbers called 'The Goat Riders' ('Den Bockenreyders' in oldr Dutch or 'De Bokkenrijders' in standard Dutch). They were cursed for robbing a church.
Vogel Rok is based on one of the tales of Sinbad the Sailor. Which are part of the story collection "One Thousand and One Nights" (a.k.a. Arabian Nights).
Fata Morgana is also based on Arabian Nights, but not one specific story. It's more of an immersion in the world that the stories are based in.
The Snail ride is in 'Het Volk van Laaf' (The People of Laaf) That's an original story created for Efteling.
The Haunted Castle is build on the music played in the main part of the ride. It's called "Danse macabre" 19th century music by Saint-Saëns. In it Death plays the violin in a graveyard. The graves open up and and the dead start to dance. It's one of the oldest rides in the park.
Most of the stories in the Fairy Tale Forest are part of collections like Grimm's. A few original ones. Disney hasn't touched a number of those yet, so they are less familiar to a lot of people. That's why each has a book shaped sign with a brief version of the story.

Timothy Haze pirana is based of the inca water gods that got angry and created a wild water river or something like that.
but it’s not widely known. They do have a backstory on it on their youtube channel somewhere.

    • @timothy3660
      @timothy3660 4 роки тому

But for a modern theme parks (which is different than just amusement parks) as we know it today the Efteling, in a fairy tale like theme designed by Anton Pieck, is I think the oldest, or at least one of the oldest since it opened in 1952 (Disneyland in 1955).

36:38... Walt Disney came to Efteling and got his inspiration... seriously !! Efteling is the oldest Theme Park in Europe and perhaps the oldest in the World. Based on the fantady of Anton Pieck.

      @tiaxanderson9725 3 роки тому

There's no evidence whatsoever except the say-so of one park PR person that Walt Disney came to Efteling. Seeing how Walt Disney openly talked about all his other inspirations and his visit to the Netherlands a year before Efteling opened is somewhat well documented (he did go to Madurodam for instance), it's unlikely he even heard of the place.
As for the oldest theme park.. It's difficult to say. Most sources list amusement park, but a theme park is a subset of amusement parks. But the oldest (and also still operating) amusement park was from 1583 nearly 400 years older than the Efteling.. But yeah "one of the oldest 'theme parks' in Europe and possibly the world" doesn't have to be wrong.

The idea from Villa Volta is that a gang associated with the devil, de Bokkerijders. In history and folklore, they are associated with witches too and there have even been real life trails. In the story made by the Efteling, their leader, Hugo tells about the time the gang robbed an abbey. For doing that, they were cursed. Their leader is cursed to remain in his own house, never able to leave to the afterlife.
Vogelrok is based on a story from Sinbad. He escaped an island by hanging on the paw of a huge bird.
The story of Baron 1898 is about a greedy baron who has created a new goldmine. He is in search of people who want to work in his mine. But his new mine is on grounds that are inhabited by Witte wieven (there are spirits of wise women or elves, dating back to pre-Christian times). These spirits want their grounds to stay intact and fight back any way they can. As you go into the ride, you are a new worker who delves into the mine, surviving the attacks and living to see an other day.

Bruno Martins to begin every land in Efteling ends with: rijk wich is dutch for kingdom or land. So these are the meanings and Some information about each one: 1 fantasierijk: fantasyland the newest one of them in the middle of the park. Main ride: symbolica. 2 reizenrijk: travel land this land is all about different cultures and is in the top left of the park. Main rides: vogel rok and carnaval festival. 3 ruigrijk: roughland in dutch iT means more like sturdy or baddass kind off. This is the area were most of Eftelings rollercoasters are located (if you’re wondering thats so they are as far away as possible from the nearby town due to the noise) its located in the top right corner of the park. main rides: baron1898, python ,Joris en de draak and the flying dutchman. 4 anderrijk: different land. This land is kinda a lot of different themes put together so this is the best way of putting iT in one land since the rides dont really fit in any other land. Its located in the right bottom corner of the park. Main rides: fata morgana, max en moritz(under construction) and piranã. 5 marerijk: this is the hardest one to explain so i Saved iT for last 😅 iT dienst really have an english translation in really dont know how to call iT. It is also the most authentic Efteling land there is and iT is were the park starterd with the fairytale forest iT is the most Classic Efteling area of the park. IT is located on the left side of the park mostly down left in the park bit also a little bit more up to the left middle. Main rides: droomvlucht, ravelijn, villa volta and of course the fairytale forest.
There is one more thing i want to say what i think is very important. Efteling doest NOT have themed area’s these lands mostly excist to make the park more clear and easy to understand and of course for the map
      .
Efteling has one cohesive theme throughout the entire park and that is also a big part of why iT is so immersive.
I hoped this helped you and if you ever want to know anything else just ask me and ill try to help as good as i can 😁
Edit: Oh yeah the spooky story i dont really know what you mean with this there are as far as i now no scary conspiracy theories about Efteling iT is a very happy feel and non of the rides are truly scary (except for maybe ofcourse small kids maybe 😅)
