The best thing about the Efteling is the fact everything they build looks like it's been there for ages. They use natural colours without the "sugar candy color coating" like most parks. They don't rely on existing ip's and franchises or have movie based rides filled with movie screens. That's what makes the park original. It's the passion of it's creators and staff that makes this one of the best parks in the world. If you are used to parks like Disney this park really is an eye opener. It's time the world discovers the definition of "gezellig" ...
The best part about the Efteling is in my opinion the music. It takes you to these fantasy tales so deeply. The composers were just spot on, all times :)

The Fata Morgana especially is my favourite dark ride of all time. Loved the way you pronounced those Dutch names and words, totally off, but at least you didn't try to sound German whilst pronouncing them!

As a Dutchman I can really say its a family park. My parents went there as children, so did I and so will my children. Many people go there every year and make pictures of their kids sitting on mushroom shaped objects. Also a nice touch is that kid strollers are free to take. I have a friend who works there and he says they are really good for their employees and give a lot of freedom for ideas to them and really have the experience of their guest high. Long story short, Efteling is a piece of dutch culture and a really magical place.
Efteling is amazing. Really worth a visit. Not the most 'thrilling' so it's not just huge rides but it has such a great atmosphere and the attention to detail is next to none.

David Mulder Yes, but it's been completely renovated and remodeled since then. It looks nothing like the old line anymore. It's been a few years since I last was in that room. (I was only there for trainings. the events I worked were at the theater, De Globetrotter/Panorama, and Het Wapen van Ravelijn. )
That sounds amazing!! Is it like a celebrity only sort of event or can you have weddings and parties there? I've been to Efteling twice but haven't noticed it!
There have been celebrity events, but the only one was aware of at the time was held at the golf club. There are about 27 locations in and around the park that's available for rent. (Charity events, weddings, communion parties, business congresses, even lavish birthday parties.) And wedding packages, for example, aren't even that expensive. My sister in law had her wedding at the Fata Morgana palace with around 100 guests for only €10,000 that includes catering. Which is an incredibly fair price for what you're getting.
As a kid, Villa Volta was the most mindblowong experience I've ever had in a theme park. The story surrounding it makes it even better because it really makes sense for the house to flip upside down and whatnot instead of just being some random thrill ride. Also dreamflight. Dreamflight is an eyegasm.
It's the combination of the amazing music, unique theming, friendly people, awesome attractions, the very good food and the sense for nature that makes this park so unique and fantas(y)tic
What a great suprise of you to talk about Efteling on your channel, bravo! Can't wait for the future episodes to show more people about the unique rides in this park.
This is my 'home'park, i lived all my life near this park, going once a year when i was little, having a subscription and hanging out there as teens when were bored, even now still going twice a year with friends and and our kids, great video, looking forward to more coveraga of the efteling, keep up the good work !
Even that last song in the credits right away makes me think Villa Volta. And i have not been in the Efteling for many years. Being a Dutchman living very close to The Efteling it is something you have to see if you are in The Netherlands. It is truly a park that grew over a longer period of time. And still you would think it was all built at the same time. I have been there 3 times over my life so far. I make it my 4th when plenty of new things have been added. It never bores but you can pretty much see it all in a short period of time. 3 to 4 days if you really want to take your time.
I live in Kaatsheuvel where the park is located. A lot of my childhood memories took place in de Efteling and I'm very proud of my little town :). About to start working there soon and I'm so excited. Lovely video btw! You clearly did your research and really cared about making a good video :)
I went to (De) Efteling every year between 1985 -1996, fond memories of hearing "papier here" from all the funky bins, the awesome wheeled pull chairs for kids, and of course the rides. I even had quite a collection of 'donkey coins'
It’s so refreshing to see a theme park based on relative unorthodox theming and succeed massively: not based on intellectual property like Disney or films like Universal Studios, but on ancient European myths, legends and folklore. Whilst Disney & Universal absolutely have their appeal, something about Efteling and it’s embrace of taking an alternative route is to be commended and celebrated.
Efteling is my favorite park since my childhood. Everytime coming back there is like a bit of my inner child comin back to life. Now i just came back from a amazing 2 day stay at the efteling hotel (the snow white suite was absolutely gorgeous!) with my little 5 year old daughter. And she loves the park just as well. I will forever keep this place in heart as my happy place.
We live in Belgium, a 2-hour drive away from Efteling. It truly is a magical place. Make yours a 3-day or longer visit and stay in 'Bosrijk', a 'magical' forest filled with cute houses in true Efteling style, with its own shop, restaurant, swimming pool and even delivery service and postman/woman. Remarkable. A wonderful experience for the adults, and truly magical and unforgettable for the children ! Frankly, I cannot get enough of it !
Magic is the only way to describe it. Its true dutch Culture. My paretns went there as children, I did as a child almost every year and so will my children.
Truly charming and natural and sweet. Not commercial, but sweet. Way to go, Netherlands, and to keep the wonderment true to fairy tales and children's imagination.
Im from Spain and I visited this park twice in 2 years with the wonderful Planet Coaster community (which mainly come from the netherlands). Its easily my second favourite theme park after the original Disneyland (it beats the shit out of disneyland paris, but so does europa park and phantasialand right now). Its an incredible theme park that you really need to visit if you go to the netherlands (or are near netherlands, because europe is a big and rich culturally wise continent and its not possible if you only have a few days to go from one point to the other), as its part of their culture, you can feel the history of it (just like you can feel the history of disneyland, maybe why I love this 2 parks so much). Little sad you didnt mention Fata Morgana, probably the best water boat darkride with Pirates of the Caribbean, that for once doesnt copy pirates like a lot of the copycats around the world. But you said you were going to do a video in the future going into each ride so thats ok Also the park has an incredible soundtrack, its magical and has an amazing feel of adventure.
I'm so glad this channel exists because you actually cover the european parks! Efteling was my first ever theme park and my first ever roller coaster! It's the most magical place, even as an english speaking kid it didn't matter I still felt like I'd found the one place where fairy tales were real. And I've not been able to find a well researched video on it until now!
I was there in mid eighties with my dad. I was around 15 years old. Love the place and especially those garbage eating figures. No trash to be found anywhere, even leafs was picked up by the kids. When I was there the entrance fee included all rides as many time you like. The waiting line for the popular rides was around one hour, crazy. That was my only complaint, I will take my kids there some day. Btw I am swedish.
i'm dutch and i find the music of the efteling so nostalgic.. then again i've been going there since i was a little kid because my mum is a huge daredevil where my dad is more like me and loves the fantasy and fairy tail stories so i'd at least go every year even after my mum and dad divorced and my mum had a new boyfriend (whom is the father of my brothers) our whole family loves the efteling and rightly so
i love this channel more with every new video! i love that you don't just stick to like disney or universal, hearing about all the other parks you do videos on is so rad.
I grew up and live in Northern California, so I also basically grew up going to Disneyland. It will always have a place in my heart, but I think it's becoming somewhat of a nightmare under Iger. Watching this video kind of breaks my heart as I'm witnessing what I think is the death of the original Disneyland. Now, look at this place, the budget is undoubtedly a tiny fraction of what Disneyland spends or brings in. Yet, look at the immersion created when you aren't being bombarded with IP's every second. This park has more in a spiritual kinship with the Disneyland of old than current Disneyland does with it's former self.
It's really amazing to see you cover the Efteling! I'm really happy to see that your research quality even persists for parks you don't speak the language of. That's commendable! Also, it's so refreshing to see an english theme park channel talk about other parks besides American ones, let alone British or even Dutch ones! I really appreciate the unique take you provide!
I fell in love with Efteling instantly, can't wait to visit again one day. I loved Tivoli Gardens too, definitely can see where Walt Disney got his inspiration. So beautiful and magical! I love how they still have the original steam carousel to go on in Efteling, it's surprisingly fast.
It's by far my favourite Park, i live in germany near the border and i got hooked on my first visit when Aquanura was new. I managed to visit 5 times so far this year :D
FrittierElch-Yea Efteling is one of my fav parks in the world, So whereabouts in Germany are you from?? I have been to many Theme Parks in Germany since I was a small kid and now like: Phantasialand, Europa -Park, Heide Park, Hansa-Park, Erlebnispark Tripsdrill, Holiday Park, Germany, Steinwasen Park, Legoland Deutschland Resort etc etc
I moved to the Netherlands when i was 18 for uni (to study theme parks and there design). Within the first 2 weeks i had already visited the park with my new friends from class as we only lived about half an hour away. I didn't know anything going in and was just so blown away by the park and have gone back quite a lot. -Katie
DisneyFans UK- I'm also from the UK in the county of Kent :-) I have been going to Efteling since I was 4 in summer of 1985, What are a few of your fav things to do there I have heard rumours bout Bob ride closing down, Hope it isn't true :-(
This is the best non dutch doc about the efteling. And your dutch is good for a non dutch person. I am looking foward to more vids from you about dutch theme parks.
Wow, you have really captured the heart of Efteling history and shared some of the lesser known stories. I really love the video. Greeting from the Netherlands!
at least you do not pronounce it as a wannabe German ;) It was a good review and I have heard a few new things. Beside that if you have the chance you should definitely go there once. Also the holiday resort has all the magic that you see in the park. You will see that magic both outside and inside the houses.
@@ExpeditionThemePark Sorry man you didnt come close :D This basically means Big Fat Joe, but you hardly pronounced the Joe part, so to us it sounded like you said something like Big Fatjoe. Gijs is his name, its the most important part, the other two words are just adjecives.
So this is pretty much a group of imagineer worthy guys got together to make a park out of the mere concept of what fantasyland in the actual Disney parks was AND is still functioning with Disneyland Paris a distance away, very impressive!
THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS! This is my homepark ever since I was young, and I am SO happy one of my favourite theme park channels made a video about it! Can't wait to see more about the Efteling from you guys!
I love the efteling so much, it really is an enchanting theme park with a lot if really cool rollercoasters, you should definitely come to the Netherlands and see how beautiful it is🇳🇱
Yes, you butcher the Dutch language, but at least you pronounced 'Efteling' correctly and you more than make up for it by showing amazing archive footage of Walt Disney visiting The Netherlands. Good video. I grew up near the park and must have been there hundreds of times. It's a great and unique park, although there is a slight decline in quality ever since imagineer Ton van de Ven retired. Since then, the only additions I really like are the Baron 1898 dive coaster and The Little Match Girl, designed by Michel den Dulk (who also left Efteling to become an imagineer with Disney in Orlando, where he designed the 2016 Frozen Ever After ride in Epcot).
Paul Houx-While the Frozen Dark Ride looks alright, They should of kept the classic Maelstrom Dark Ride I remember when it first came out in the 1980's
Fun fact: The swinging ship half moon (halve maen) is the largest swinging ship in the world! Having a max capacity of 84 people, a max speed of 54 km/h and a swing out (sorry if this is the wrong word, google translated it) of 25 metres!
Nice! It's just an our for me to drive to the Efteling. I've been there many times (think 15 times or more). Still the best park in theming. Maybe not in thrillrides (Phantasialand is better with Taron, also great theming). They (Efteling) said that every Dutch people visit the park at least 3 times in there lives (as kid, parent, and grandparent).
It does sound a pretty neat place. My favorite park in Monterey, Dennis the Mence Park (for a regular play ground, it's quite the place) has a lion that would gobble trash thrown into his mouth. I don't think he actually works anymore, but they've got him still.
As an Dutchie, I got very excited about this video, and you really delivered. However, I do believe the music deserves a special mention, as it's so popular that they've started using it to fend off youths that hang around Central Station in Amsterdam after midnight.
I'm 44 now and still remember a lot about it from when I went as a kid at about 12! I still say I haven't :een to a better one since and I'm sure it's much bigger and better even than it was then! The Python was the main attraction then but it was before the rebuild in 97 the video mentions so I would really love to go back some day and see how it's evolved and grown!
I think it's funny how most comments are of Dutch people (yeah me too), but I hope a lot of foreigners see this, because it is an amazing park and you should definately come. Tip: Don't come in summer, the wait times for attractions are ridiculously long. I have been there a lot, since I was 5 or 6, and I still love it as much as I did as a kid. It really is for all ages. Never been to winter efteling though, so that's definately on my bucket list. I hope to visit more amazing theme parks like this in and outside of Europe.
Great video you made about the Efteling. As almost a neighbor from Efteling I come here at least ones a year. Good to see you named the history off the park with is fairytales. Of course the main guest will come fore the big rides, but origin is everything here. The park has visited last year just over 5 million times, but wands to grow with more international guests.
Thanks for your tribute to 'De Efteling'. Very nice! Myself have a subcription on the park and visite many times a year. And it's never getting old, in fact I fell more in love with the beauty of the park
Thank you for making this video! Efteling is one of my favourite theme parks, visited it annually ever since I was a year old. Going again tomorrow on the last day of my annual pass!
@Hidde ter Haar sounds cool guess it going to have to go on my bucket list but in the mean time we got some good stuff in texas and theres allways Disney 😙
My favourite place in the world! Basically grew up here and still come here weekly, but always nice to learn some things about it from someone who actually did research haha
Thank you for covering my childhood park. I was fortunate enough to grow up next to the park and have more insight into the park then I would like to admit. I have to admit that you managed the spirit of the park pretty well in this short vid. Looking forward to your follow up vids on this! Really sad about the current rumors of the Bob being torn down soon. Intamin bobsled coasters are such a rarity these days
Beerfish- I'm from the UK & have been coming to Efteling since I was 4 in summer of 85 great memories from then & obviously making new ones when I go there, Yea I also heard rumours bout Bob I hope it isn't true Such a classic- I remember when I first went on it the year it came out in 1985, I really like the one at Europa- Park as well I'm going to Efteling this month :-)
Efteling was the theme park that introduced me to thrill rides, the Python being my first upside-down rollercoaster. I was a bit too scared to go on The Baron at that point, but recently I plucked up the courage to go on Oblivion at Alton Towers, so you can bet that when I go back to Efteling, The Baron will be my first stop-
what a suprise you made an episode about my home base themepark :) keep up the good work! im looking forward to your further episodes. greetings from an annual efteling passholder :)
The Efteling is one of the best themed parks out there, just the atmosphere you feel when walking around. The themed rides are super, good food for low prices, Staff is friendly. I'm a huge fan! I don't know if people who don't understand Dutch would enjoy it, but i do think so.
Love the fact you made a video about my personal favourite themepark.. And you don't have to apologize for your Dutch pronunciation... We have a hard language to learn.
Nice to see your channel doing a history story in English about the Efteling. I love Disney Paris, never been in America or the other parks, but Paris is a bit far. So I go every year to the Efteling and It gives me the same feeling, but other characters. This year I had been even 4 days on vacation in the Efteling with my grandparents and sister and my boyfriend. And a day with my little cousins. I had won a night in the park a month ago, so I am 5 january again in the efteling and celebrate my bday there with my bf, 2 friends and my sister. I have to shoot some vids that weekend.
Lisa Van Harmelen- I'm going to Efteling this month, Been coming here since I was 4 in summer of 1985 one of my fav Theme Parks in the world I'm from the UK in the county of Kent :-)
I’m going next week when I’m in Amsterdam! It’s quite a straight forward journey if anyone ever wanted to go for a day from there :) I went a few times as a child and once a few years ago (I’m from the uk) it’s honestly one of the best theme parks in the world :)
I really like it when people who don't live in the Netherlands (I live there.)give us such a good feedback!🤗I really like to read the comments under a englisch video about the Efteling en see how many people love the Efteling and it makes me happy❤😉I really love the Efteling and it feels like my second home. It's a world with peace and where I can be myself. When I am upsad I can go there whenever I want and I can forget my struggles with school or something else. It's makes my day compleet!❤Thank you for such a good feedback and it makes me happy to read it.
My home park. Been coming here for over 20 years. I hope you do a video about the demolished Pegasus and the soon to be demolished Bob, i have fond memories of those 2. Despite the Pegasus being insanely rough. And maybe even the obscure stuff like the Rowing pond, Swimming pools and the water organ. There's also a historic steam carrousel worth talking about.
The pegasus was my first real rollercoaster, EVER. After that I was so traumatized I never went on another rollercoaster again... It was already old by the time I rode it, and I have an insane fear of heights :/
Growing up going to the Efteling almost every year I fail to see the beauty and wonder it has to offer. My favorite park is Phantasialand but I guess thats just because I go there so rarely.
Went to the park when I was visiting Amsterdam in August. It’s a shame there isn’t a better network to get there our bus only went through once each way so we had to leave fairly early for theme park standards (6pmish) but it was so incredible. The mad house ride and the Flying Dutchman ghost ship were two highlights. It was incredibly detailed from start to finish.
ramcniff uhm the traveling network in the netherlands is pretty great actually you should’ve taken the train to den bosch and then take the bus (they go all day every 20 minutes or so until late in the evening so you had a case of misinformation.... so if you ever revisit take the train. It’s the best way to get around our little country and they always have great travel deals going on

The best part about the Efteling is in my opinion the music. It takes you to these fantasy tales so deeply. The composers were just spot on, all times :)
thats my thought exactly,
The older music was spot on. Stuff from their current composer is way below that standard and almost sound ringtone-ny

De Efteling is forever my favourite place to be. I feel so happy and at peace when I'm there, it's the most magical place on earth.
Who here is dutch?
(probably most people)
Hier, al ben ik trouw aan toverland...
@@pikariocraftf2802 Toverland is pretty good. The theming on fenix is amazing, but the Efteling has this special emotional thing.

That haunted attraction looked amazing! All those statues are crazy! WAIT IT POOPS GOLD!
THIS PARK IS A BLAST, they're adding a whole new section and I can't wait till they open it
Super proud to be Dutch just because of this park, absolutely love going there whenever I have the chance
But you said you were going to do a video in the future going into each ride so thats ok
Also the park has an incredible soundtrack, its magical and has an amazing feel of adventure.
Did You Go For Real
I'm so glad this channel exists because you actually cover the european parks! Efteling was my first ever theme park and my first ever roller coaster! It's the most magical place, even as an english speaking kid it didn't matter I still felt like I'd found the one place where fairy tales were real. And I've not been able to find a well researched video on it until now!
I went here once a long time ago and I distinctly remember how beautiful and well-themed it is! But I also remember getting easily lost. 🙈
Well if you liked it then you will like it even more now, they only added new things but still kept the nostalgic Efteling feel.
Wow a great combo of Disney and Magic Mountain rides in one.
i'm dutch and i find the music of the efteling so nostalgic.. then again i've been going there since i was a little kid because my mum is a huge daredevil where my dad is more like me and loves the fantasy and fairy tail stories so i'd at least go every year even after my mum and dad divorced and my mum had a new boyfriend (whom is the father of my brothers) our whole family loves the efteling and rightly so
i love this channel more with every new video! i love that you don't just stick to like disney or universal, hearing about all the other parks you do videos on is so rad.
Respect in trying to pronounce the dutch words!
One of the hardest languages in the world!
Love ya vids !
One of the hardest, indeed. And that's not even including the millions of regional dialects. x'D
@@YokiDokiPanic yeah.... north holland.... west flemish and so on....
There are very few theme parks outside of Disney that I will ever care about seeing, but Eftiling is now one of them.
I fell in love with Efteling instantly, can't wait to visit again one day. I loved Tivoli Gardens too, definitely can see where Walt Disney got his inspiration. So beautiful and magical! I love how they still have the original steam carousel to go on in Efteling, it's surprisingly fast.
I’m going to Efteling in October, so it’s time for me to watch all of the UA-cam videos ever made on it. Yay!
-Katie

This is the best non dutch doc about the efteling. And your dutch is good for a non dutch person. I am looking foward to more vids from you about dutch theme parks.
Wow, you have really captured the heart of Efteling history and
shared some of the lesser known stories. I really love the video. Greeting from the Netherlands!
Greetings! Thank you so much
You should do symbolica. Its definitely the best dark ride in the world. (that's including Disney rides)
;)
Haven't been there in awhile. A jubileum attraction eh? Where in the park did they place it?
i'm not sure but i think its near the observation tower
Middle of the park. On the same square as 'Polles Kitchen', next to the Pagode.
I work there :D
Those rides are so beautiful!
Even all these years later i till see myself coming back to this video every once in a while just to see this video
at least you do not pronounce it as a wannabe German ;)
It was a good review and I have heard a few new things.
Beside that if you have the chance you should definitely go there once.
Also the holiday resort has all the magic that you see in the park. You will see that magic both outside and inside the houses.
Wannabe German.. does that even excist? lol
Dutch is a German Dialect I just think this is funny 😅😅
This is how I'm going to pronounce Holle Bolle Gijs from now on 😁.
Good job on one of my childhood (and adulthood) parks!
I even got google to pronounce that one so I could copy it!
@@ExpeditionThemePark Sorry man you didnt come close :D This basically means Big Fat Joe, but you hardly pronounced the Joe part, so to us it sounded like you said something like Big Fatjoe. Gijs is his name, its the most important part, the other two words are just adjecives.
Loved this one! And we had fun about your Dutch 🤫 thank you for making this video we loved it! Lots of love from Holland
So this is pretty much a group of imagineer worthy guys got together to make a park out of the mere concept of what fantasyland in the actual Disney parks was AND is still functioning with Disneyland Paris a distance away, very impressive!
Just watching this again for the umph time, because I miss the Efteling so much! 🥺
I hope they can open their doors again soon... 🤞
THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS! This is my homepark ever since I was young, and I am SO happy one of my favourite theme park channels made a video about it! Can't wait to see more about the Efteling from you guys!
I've been there and I absolutely loved it! Such a perfectly working theme park. I loved every minute I've been there
I'm planning a trip to the Netherlands when Covid is getting better, I MUST go here.
Paul Houx-While the Frozen Dark Ride looks alright, They should of kept the classic Maelstrom Dark Ride
I remember when it first came out in the 1980's
Dude you should make an episode about “carnival festival” in the Efteling! Or just the backstorys behind all the attractions!
As an Dutchie, I got very excited about this video, and you really delivered. However, I do believe the music deserves a special mention, as it's so popular that they've started using it to fend off youths that hang around Central Station in Amsterdam after midnight.
Aaah, carnaval festival, still one of the best annoying songs.
Always great to see international attention for Efteling. Great video. Looking forward to the ride videos.
Absolutely cannot wait to learn more about specific rides from this park ❤️
This is has been on the bucket list for me for awhile. Thanks for doing this dude! Another Great Job!

Beerfish- I'm from the UK & have been coming to Efteling since I was 4 in summer of 85 great memories from then & obviously making new ones when I go there, Yea I also heard rumours bout Bob I hope it isn't true
Such a classic- I remember when I first went on it the year it came out in 1985, I really like the one at Europa- Park as well
I'm going to Efteling this month :-)
Hah, live in the Netherlands, never went there, just booked for the weekend, great channel:)

It's makes my day compleet!❤Thank you for such a good feedback and
it makes me happy to read it.
Don't apologize for pronunciation. I totally Lovvvveee your videos. I would so love to visit this amazing park.
I absolutely love the efteling, thanks for making a video about it and telling others about the park!
Thanks for doing the efteling. I was going to suggest it. Too many theme park UA-camrs focus only on british/ American ones
I live in the Netherlands just 20 minutes from the efteling. Since I was born we went with the hole family. 25 jears later I still go to the park!!
Great video, brings back a lot of memories. Must be about 28 years since I went.

Also the Villa Volta music at the end ♥️👌
wow this really puts disney Paris into perspective !
I hear from a ton of foreigners (I'm Dutch myself) that the Efteling out-Disneys Disney.
disney wishes it could be this good lol
True, the amount of detail and quality they put into anything in that park is nothing less than amazing!
