Women's Tour de France 2022: What Bike Computers Do They Use?

- Here's your complete behind the scenes look at the women's Tour de France 2022 start area, with a deep dive into the bike computer, smart trainer, and power meter tech.
Today kicked off the first 8-stage Women’s Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift. This year the race started in Paris, where the women completed loops of the same main Parisian circuit as the men, similar to what the women have done in La Course over the last decade. After Sunday’s opener, the women are working their way eastwards, towards the Alps, before a finish this weekend.
For this post, I’m focusing on the sports tech of the women’s teams, just as I did for the men’s side. As you may know, I’ve been covering the geekier side of the women’s peloton for many years of La Course, Giro, and Tour Down Under events. While these events have had varying levels of WorldTour status, the reality is all of them were largely attended by the same top WorldTour teams.
Simply put - the shift this year in sponsorship money, and teams provisions is astounding. In the case of all of the 14 WorldTour Teams, the main gear, team bus, and sponsorship/equipment levels were near identical. And even in the 10 Continental Teams (essentially a slightly lower tier), the gear was often the same as well. It was mind-bogglingly amazing to see this jump for the women’s teams. Gone are the hodge-podge of unsponsored team equipment lineups, replaced with the latest top-end gear that the men also have.

Thanks Ray. It's so good to see the improving equipment, sponsorships, media coverage and dollars/euros/money for the women. So long neglected, so needed, so deserved. I look forward to continued improvements with time. Thankful for Zwift stepping up, really. They've certainly earned loyalty points from this subscriber. I type this on the day of stage four and the racing has been great - the women are throwing it down, putting on quite a show. #watchthefemmes #cameobygplama
Ray is just so easy to listen to. No ego, well spoken and smart.
Interesting video by the effin famous Ray Maker!
🤣🤣🤣
Love these series. It's nice to see some teams bring their own mix and match units, adds a little old school charm to the race.
Paint jobs on the women's bikes are absolutely mint. Men's peloton could learn a thing or two... (EF exempted!)
Love how Ray can spot a Bike Computer model at glance as it rolls by! :D
It's really great to see the improvement of women cycling over the years.
It has reached a level that makes it far less amateurish than it was less than 10 years ago.
So do I. 🖕
Thank you for doing this Ray! Please keep doing this style of video.
Great video and great coverage. TDF Femmes as been spectacular so far. Stage 4 on gravel was incredible.
Fantastic once again brilliant 👏
Awesome coverage, so cool to see all the behind-the-scenes "stuff".....
Thanks Ray, awesome video! Hope the women's tour is as exciting as the men's tour was.
The gold chain & cassette on the Trek bike is special made for past or present Sram sponsored World Champions, male or female.
Well editted. I like this topic.
Great look behind the scenes once again! Not one ladies team on the Hammerhead Karoo by the looks of it ?
I strongly suspect that’ll change next year.
The big take-away here is that Team EF (Education) says Mr. Maker is EFnn Famous 🤩
Cool 🤝😎🤟🏼
Excellent coverage, just like the men's TdF equivalent. Why don't any of the men's teams use pedal based power meters? Good to see my favorite Favero Assiomas used by Team UAE!
I think that has something to do with the weight, but I might be wrong 🤔
just who will sponsor them . Also Shimano seems not to like other brands pedals or powermeters on "their" teams
Again a great video! Just from French pronunciation regarding team st Michel => it is saint mi-shhh-el and not Saint mi-k-el.
Cheers
6:19 Can you do a video about the sticker and what it all means?
Hey Ray - are we going to see an in-depth review of the Stages M200 ($240 with NorCal Cycling discount)? Debating between it, the Garmin Edge 530 and Wahoo Elemnt Bolt v2, which are both $300.
What gopro Velon using seems small
very notable: some rim brake bikes!!!
Great video….is the TDFF being televised?
Yes it is. But that depends on your country
@@dumans85 I’m in the US, I’m guessing no.
@@DannyPimienta only on CNBC. Not sure if thats a broadcaster available for all americans or paid tv. You could watch it for free via VPN in german television but i guess german is not an option 😅
Comically silly mask charades aside, this was great. What fun tech on these teams!
Wahoo team have the best colors in the tour, men's or women's
100% !
👍
Of course you are famous, Ray.
Thanks for another video with some great content. Really glad to see the women finally getting proper sponsorships in the tour de femmes. What has happened in the past (especially by the tour leadership!) has been a travesty. BTW, please, please, change the frame rate of your video. A 4k60FPS encode (or 30fps) is a total pain on storage space, but every time you spin around with the different bikes, the jerking from the refresh rate mismatch (25fps vs 60hz) is terrible. 60fps will always look smooth as its easy to go down, but not up.
Still sad no to see a Quickstep-AlphaVinyl Team - Hey Lefevre, what are ya waiting for? (must be hard to convince sponsors, again $$ issue)
They literally lost a sponsor because he/they refused to start a women's team, so I don't think money was the issue.
@@Avioto that's very interesting, didn't know that. Thanks for the info!
Ag insurance nxtg is lefevere's team
@@zepenguin8152 There you go - I'll follow up that more closely - thanks for this!
@@Avioto I'm pretty sure he refused because it was a money issue. None of these sponsors are getting a roi on the women's teams. Hell, most men's teams aren't doing hot and they have multiple times the exposure. Larger companies can afford to take the hit but you're effectively paying for PR, not marketing.
Why dont they ride the same stages as the men? I guess it could get more media coverage if so. and maybe even be starting an hour behind the men, so the public can stay and wait for the female riders
Were any of the trainers plugged in? Or are they just in dumb mode?
Should have analyzed the different kind of masks all the folks had to wear. Masks sponsored by Wahoo, Garmin, etc....
A lot more variety of bikes, tech, etc on the Woman’s Tour - men’s tour kinda boring by comparison.
