Looks comfortable, never thought about a cordless router, would have been great when I was doing drywall years and years ago, before cordless, that is. That's correct, I am 1000 years old.
Enjoyed watching the second real world scenario regarding the door hinge. It's about the only thing I would use the router at work as a maintenance tech for apartments. I came up on a cordless router and was debating whether to keep it or not. But this video ensured me it would be worth keeping since I'm tired of using a utility knife and small chisel and taking way to long to cut out two door hinge cut outs. And just the efficiency and usability of the compact router. Thanks!
Hey sire, great videos! The 2nd tire hanging off wont harm anything, with your loads. Duallie extra wheels are for carrying highend of payload, or more importantly 'heavy' tongue trailer weight. The truck itself with some contractor tools is well within what the inside wheels can hold.
Great little router, need to get me one Leaving one wheel off your driveway just makes it easier for a thief to steal your outer wheel without jacking the truck up.
I really wanted to get this since they started advertising it, but I really couldn't wait until it came out so I got DeWalt's battery-powered compact router. I'm sure I'd be really happy if I got the Milwaukee instead, but I've been really pleased with the DeWalt router so far. It seems like there are quite a few quality cordless compact router options on the market right now. It's such an awesome tool to have within easy convenient reach. Thanks for the demo.
I bought one too, one thing you'll come to find though is that 5.0Ah battery runs outta juice quite quickly! I slapped a 9.0Ah on mine and did well building stair stringers routing out a 3/8" slot for my steps to slide into. Worked well even for pressure treated lumber! Definitely loving this purchase!
A totally honest evaluation . Bravo! Excellent presentation. I know you use DEWALT, which is excellent ( so do I ) but, Milwaukee does have an advantage. By the way, you have very informative videos that I have learned much from. Thank you for sharing your expertise. You’re finished carpentry skills go beyond.
I agree I bought it when it first came out and it surpassed my expectations as well a lot more power than I thought it would have I would definitely recommend it to everyone thinking about it. The only thing i think could be better it a baseplate that is more slippery. It seems like some other routers slide better on wood, even when i apply parafin wax. Could be just the added weight of the battery makes it more difficult to slide. I work in a cabinet shop BTW so im pretty accustomed to trim routers of varying type and mfg's. All in all Milwaukee killed it! Nice job chaps.
I don’t care what anyone says... I literally bought a whole set of dewalt tools because of YOU AND THEY’VE NEVER SENT YOU A BATTERY... which truly disappointed.... thank god for MILWAUKEE FOR RECOGNIZING THIS MANS WORTH... welp I still need a ton of tools rolling with the waukee going forward!!!!
I've switched most things over to Milwaukee from DeWalt -- since we moved onto our boat. Mostly because Milwaukee makes the cordless heat gun, which is REALLY AWESOME. Anyhow... router... I picked one up yesterday, and I'm not overly impressed. The height adjustment doesn't actually lock-in, I can see the little wheel move while I am using the router.
I'm about to make that switch as well. I've been dewalt since I was 14, dewalt has been slacking big time keeping up to date and quality has also slippin,.. I had enough of it this past weekend when I bought the dewalt dcf890b and it failed miserably busting the lug nuts on my Honda..
Yep your good, doesn't matter if it was the outer tire with full load you'd probably be fine. First thing that will give is the wheel, but again wouldn't worry about it as there is a safety factor involved anyway. When these work trucks go off road towing they sometimes drive up on an area where only one tire is on the ground. So you are good. Storing it for longer than a weekend different situation as you don't want the tire itself to develope a flat spot, yet with duallys a flat spot might not matter much on one tire and evenutally it would spring back/wear back.
Ya know you want to top & go to the ice cream truck, it’s okay 😉 Thx for first looks at router 👍🏻 Still waiting for mine do be delivered, but can’t wait to use after watching all the reviews💪🏼👍🏻 Cheers✌🏼
It will affect a single tire before you have axle problems. AYE that router kicks butt. Just like my Makita. Same guide too. A must have for the tradesman!
Nice review. All my Li-ion stuff is Milwaukee and I have a bunch (not enough though). Now this tool will be added to the "gotta get one" list. I've used just about every name brand of these tools when working with trusted subs and job site sharing is fairly common. Big news flash......they all work well. I'm not jumping into the switching brands thing because Dewalt or Makita have come out with the newest and best (according to advertising). No matter who has the newest and best, the others will soon follow with their version. I really do not want three different kinds of batteries and charging units laid out. The brushless tech has really leveled the playing field. Now some genius engineer will come up with a more efficient battery system and, of course, change the interface, then we're all in the start over boat. Japan has developed a dual carbon battery that out performs li-ion. Just at early stages, but things they be a changin".
Just the review I've been looking for! Though my skill set isnt in the same universe as yours, your review does give me that reason I need to get 1 of my own. I have the small corded Makita and I'm happy with it, BUT its not cordless. Comparing the 2 I am leaning to the Milwaukee. Thanks for the video. Keep up the great work you do along with your videos. Really enjoy and learn a lot from them.👍👍
Good review Richard and I like how compact it is. I have the Bosch Colt corded which works great but I wish it was cordless. I'm def sold on this router for sure. I got a kick out of the Ice Cream truck driving by while I'm looking out my window to a foot of snow on the ground and a driveway that needs to be plowed, lol. Thanks for sharing.
That would be a great router to make fluted columns. And I have never heard of a commercial break for clowds and a go cart,... interesting to say the least... lol
It’s not bad for the axle. The point of duels is to allow more tires to hold the weight so that they don’t burst. Parking on the inner wheel puts greater stress on that tire, but no additional stress on the axle.
Had to laugh when you dropped the tailgate! That’s my garage when I open the door. It’s hopeless! I am my father’s son for sure! Love your videos, you are a true craftsman.
Just bought the same router today. Part of my decision to buy the router was due to you. Thanks for sharing the info about the router. The only problem so far that I have with the router is the guide comes off after tightening it. Has anyone experienced this? If so, did you figure out a way to fix it?
Got my M18 router recently. So far have been using it while putting up some fencing to clean up dados in treated posts after first taking multiple cuts with a circ saw and knocking out the chips with a hammer. Loving it so far. Looking forward to using it in a more conventional manner.
There is absolutely no problem with having one tire off the edge of the driveway like that. The only time it could be a problem is if you had a 20,000lbs trailer hooked up, or a few thousand pounds in the bed. And even with a large payload it probably still wouldn't matter. Your axles are rated for so much more weight than you're putting on it there. You don't need to put a board under that tire, or anything like that. Having the one tire on the ground is no different than the SRW one ton trucks. The DRW is mainly for towing stability, not so much for weight rating. You are 100% fine.
Milwaukee cordless tools are very good tools. They have become even better because of the brushless motors. Actually I think that there probably the best on the market right now. Thanks for the vid. Keep up the good work Richard.
I'm still using my big beast Porter cable router that I bought in 1997, but I find myself wanting a portable unit. I was just going to buy a corded Bosch, DeWalt or Milwaukee, but now it's between the Milwaukee and Bosch since I have batteries for both. For those quick little runs this tool is perfect. Curious if they chew through batteries as fast as my Milwaukee multi tool.
No problem with only 1 tire supporting. Been doing it for 20 years, no issues. I’ve scene old farmer saving money and only driving with 1 tire on each side of his dually. Looks stupid but it worked. Lol
Both wheels are mounted together as a "single unit" on the axle so the axle sees the same load independent of whether one or two tires are on the ground. The primary function of a dually is to is to keep from overloading tires - more tires = lower load per tire. Tires are the lowest load-rated component in the system. And, contrary to one comment I saw below, parked on only one tire with your essentially unloaded truck (all that stuff in the bed is insignificant w/r/t the truck) has not affect on the tires. Of course, the overall truck as a dually is heavier built but single tires cannot take the amount load from a heavily loaded system.
Not a problem but put down a cement step stone . They are 12x12 or 20x20 at home depot. Can make it flush with driveway and look good. Best few bucks spent.
When you said let's go to a commercial break UA-cam went to an advertisement. I thought woah, Richard's timing his videos with UA-cam commercials now. I had to replay to see that it was pure coincidence and not planned.
Dope! Reds is soo tiny vs yellows grand size. I feel like I’m leaning towards yellow though bc it “seems” to be just a tad better on the full rundown & accuracy. Check Concord carpenters compact router vs video. I like how Milwaukee gives all those extra parts/pieces even with the tool only!? That’s actually a surprise & I have the most Milwaukee batteries of all brand batteries! I wish they would come out w/ a cordless with a slightly larger collet, it can be done...comeonnn... 12” slider? No prob! 1/2” router chilllllllll lol
There is not enough weight back there to harm your axle. Your all good. I have had the outside tire up on a curb for days at a time and no issues. No leaking axle seals or any other issues. You would need to exceed the payload in order to hurt the axle by only have one wheel supported. 👍
I expect that the load in your truck is a tiny fraction of what your truck can support. That’s what I would look at to assess how much you are stressing the axle. So if that machine can take 2000 lbs of a 5th wheel and you have 300 lbs of tools you’re good.
The cordless thing originated because many years ago, jobsites sometimes lacked power, for that reason, I always carried a crosscut and rip saw. The skillsaw pretty much eliminated most hand saw cutting. Just curious, routers typically require 25000 rpm, how about that one. How does it do with say maple or oak.
I'm just wondering if the vacuum cleaner would have worked better with a straight bit instead of that giant round over bit impeding the entire suction area of the base plate. What do you think? Keep up the great work on and off camera.
Thanks much for that simple mantel leg detail. For the last couple days I've been staring at two unfinished legs on our new fireplace, and that didn't occur to me. Much obliged.
If you try with the festool vacuum you will see huge difference, suggest you to invest in one , its been hard on the bill but never regretted, it cuts down about 90% of the dust on everything including that router and it fits like a glove
How did you know how deep to go with the router for the door hinges? Is there a standard measure that you know from experience or is each one different and did you measure off camera?
I was using the Ridgid trim corded router for a couple days on plexi. (a whole bunch of fussy cuts) I liked the fine adjustment better than the Milwaukee. Overall I still like the Bosch or Dewalt better in the hand. The Milwaukee is nice though. It's good in the field where there are limited outlets.

I think you just showed everyone the best commercial break in the history of commercial breaks. Beautiful clouds! Excellent review!
Yes... I had a flashback of my daughter's room when you opened the tailgate! 😇😎
Thanks for being real. Us regular tradies don’t have tons of time to clean our rigs out. You the real MVP!

Make your own base out of solid teflon. Also known as UHMW plastic.
Thanks for the input, how does it preform with hardwoods, does it have enough power?

That inner wheel is supporting the weight not a big deal
That's pretty much what the dually axle is for
Lol I see a guy driving with just the inner wheels on his way to get the outters

I just got mine yesterday, can't wait to put it to work. Another of many cordless only tools.
I bought the makita lxt router kit and I've been thoroughly impressed with the power it has, so much that I've forgotten about my old corded router.
Wow that was extremely accurate mortising that hinge. Talk about a steady hand!
Ya know you want to top & go to the ice cream truck, it’s okay 😉
Thx for first looks at router 👍🏻
Still waiting for mine do be delivered, but can’t wait to use after watching all the reviews💪🏼👍🏻

Your methods are solid and give
top level results. Thanks for the videos
VERY NICE little tool. Also I like ur lil portable table and mini clap

Thanks for doing the hinge motise demonstration. I was hoping for that. Looks like a sweet addition to my door instal kits
Nice review. I use a bosch Colt for job site quick cuts, but cord does get in the way at times.
Luv this tool. Just received as a promo and it is the best tool in my packout system.
Best tool review ever!!! Thank you so much!!! Now time for me to get my Milwaukee router 😁
Wanna try one of these out. My old Bosch colt gets hot and the cord is in the way sometimes. The router looks good to go. Good vid

I think this is true in part but here in the north they add axles to respect the regulations governing wheel loads so as not to damage the pavement.
Great Video and great review. Thank you for your time and expertise.

Oh hey, I got my DeWaukee shirt today. Can’t wait to strut around Home Depot! Thanks!
I have a makita and I love it but I will try the Milwaukee cordless
Thanks a lot for the review
🤔
I now need this phenomenal compact router !
I don't know about the rest of them but I love my Milwaukee router but it is my first compact router
Got the ridgid one last year . Got to say i love it .
I just picked one of these up a week and a half ago -- awesome little router!
I used the milwaukee cut out tool and put an adapter collet and any trim bits now doing the same cuts as any router.
Do you happen to have a video on the Kreg work table you are using?

Snow clouds in TX..lol. I bought the cheaper Ryobi version and have been fully impressed by the tool.
Gave a thumbs up for the hinge route example!
Great review! I too really like Milwaukee tools. I have several and will be checking this one out soon.
Well, that's it then! Almost went with the Dewalt, but already having the Milwaukee batteries, the Milwaukee will be in the tool box. Thanks
Happy New Year love all your videos, maybe try this new tool with a smaller battery just to see how it does? Curious
I been using makita brushless for years they have never failed me Milwaukee on the other hand
You just helped my decision thanks for the video... Milwaukee 🤠👍
Great review. Thanks 🙏🏼
Does the dust shroud fit when you use the larger diameter base?

I just got this router, it's awesome, and where can I get that work table?
I had purchased a rigid route, for the price I think is very comparable. If you have any thoughts.
Wondering if this unit would be ideal for trimming laminate countertops?
Oh for sure
