  • As hunters and huntresses, we are always striving to find ways to save and use more of our harvests each year. We also strive for the fastest, easiest and BEST way to do a DIY project. In this case, it is by far the BEST, EASIEST, and FASTEST method for cleaning a deer skull - well any skull for that matter!
I have been nervous to try but have always heard of the pressure washer and boil method but again, been scared it was a hoax and I would blow up my skulls. Let me tell you what, I wish I would’ve done it sooner!! Every other boil method I have tried as led to the skulls getting so cooked that they become soft and start to break a part which means I have to bust out the glue. I start to lose and have to find teeth amongst other problems.
But this DIY method for cleaning bear skulls is the best! It’s the fastest and easiest as well. By far the most hands off approach and best results for a clean deer skull.
If you’re not using this method now for cleaning you deer skulls, I highly recommend you change things up and start using it. Watch this how to video to learn how to get started!
Bit only in this video am I doing a quick recap on how to clean the deer skull, that’s only part of the process, the next step is getting it white. That’s what most of us are after anyways right? A bright white deer skull. So not only does this video quickly share how to clean a deer skull but it also helps show you how to get your skull looking white as could be.
Here is the best DIY method I have found to clan and whiten deer and all other animal skulls. Enjoy!

My son shot his first buck last week on his first Vermont youth season. I have done a bunch of euro mounts over the years but have always done a hydro dip of some kind. He really wants a natural look and we have decided to try this method here. It came out fantastic!!

I also paint the entire skull with Elmer's glue, I give it 5 coats. It will give it a pearl kind of sheen and believe it or not the glue will not yellow with time. I learned this on another UA-cam video years ago.

That looks okay and it's a quick fix but I guarantee you 5 to 10 years from now it'll start to turn a little yellow I've done it like that several times and find that it does not get the grease completely out of the skull above the nose. I boil it in hydrogen peroxide Dawn dishwashing liquid and SPF 40 slow boil for a couple hours then set it in the sun and then brush with mop and glow. No yellow ever comes back I've had European mounts for almost 25 years and they are still bone white.

I went to Sally Beauty Supply today to purchase the Creme and Clear. They would not sell me the 50 Creme saying that it is for professionals only. They would sell me a 40 Creme though. I knew someone who is a professional hairdresser and was able to get it that way. I suspect that the 40 Creme would have worked but probably not as well.

Use white vinegar takes all odor away. Initial boil

If there is odor when your done then that means you left some meat or cartilage tissue. Bone doesn’t have a scent that humans can detect. Or did you just mean scent while boiling?

Spoiled blood or meat juice in the bone sticks. Vinegar is a old time cleaner.

@@seanjorgenson8064 yeah but if cleaned entirely there isn’t any of that left in the skull
