Eshop always has discounts. Retail stores now put $40 instead of $60 for mostly really good games

Yes it’s still worth it, especially since they don’t seem to be looking to outright replace the system anytime soon, if a new console even comes out it’ll most likely be a upgraded switch, not a new thing (no sign of decline in the console sales and lifespan have been seen and the MK dlc is plenty evidence that they’re not looking to go to next Gen until at least next year likely longer)
I think that Tears of Kindom will be release on 2 consoles like Twilight Princess or Breath of the wild. I cant wait
I highly doubt Nintendo is in the business of making a new console especially with how much of a success switch is they could just keep the same console and not release a new console
Not that this is even relevant to the conversation but twilight princess was actually on 3 consoles. it originally came out on game cube then was ported to the Wii, and finally got it’s hd remaster on the Wii U. I only know this because my uncle has a copy of the game cube version.

My rule is if I spend one dollar for each hour I’ve played, it’s a good deal. So if you play 300 hours then it’s 100% worth it.
If you only played 300 hours on your switch you played maybe less than 2 weeks worth of time. Does that really sound worth $300?

Even if you play as little as 5-10 hours a week (because of work/school/children, etc) it's totally worth it.

Based on price I'm going to assume that's in US$
It's not going to be just $300 unless you restrict yourself to only playing free games. Switch games sell for US$60 on average.
So it's 300 hrs + 60 hrs per game they buy. If that's 10 games, then they need 900 hrs to make it worth it (unless they get the games on special, discount or cheaper through pre-owned sales)
That assumes no accessories or controller purchases. I wouldn't want to buy a Switch and not have the Pro Controller. It's just so much better with a proper controller. That's another US$70
Then if they want online play it adds US$20 - 50 per year they own the console.
If they own it for 1 year, have the controller, standard online membership and 10 games that means they need 990 hrs in 1 year. That's 2 hrs 43 mins per day without fail.
If they own it for 2 years that's 1 hr 22 mins each day for 2 years
If they own it for 3 years that's 57 mins each day for 3 years
If they own it for 4 years that's 43 mins a day
5 years would be 35 mins a day
6 years would be 30 mins a day
7 years would be 26 mins a day
If you're wondering what's with the diminishing return on investment, adding 365 days to 1 year makes up 1/2 of your total time. While adding 365 days onto 6 years only increases your total time owned by 1/7th
If they can get all the games under $30, or have a really small game library, that'd drastically reduce the amount of play time required for it to be "worth it" according to their criteria
Back to your original statement of 300 hrs = less than two weeks
If you're doing 300 hrs over 14 days that's 21 hrs of play per day. Most people would need more than just 3 hrs for sleep. 16 hrs a day gaming while on vacation would be more realistic though not recommended. So let's round that up to 3 weeks if you have absolutely nothing else in your life to fit games around aside from sleep and eat.
Highly unlikely unless you're either a school kid during school holidays, retired or taking time off work to game.
I bought my switch lite back in 2019 in September and i went for the yellow switch, and i also got Luigi’s mansion 3 ( my fav game ) to go along with it and i loved it. But recently i got a splatoon 3 Nintendo switch OLED and the upgrade was totally worth it. I’m an adult so I have access to adult money and whenever I get back from work I play a lot games like ( Metroid dread, Metroid prime remastered, Zelda link’s awakening, fire emblem 3 houses, Mario wonder, Celeste, dead cells, cup head, Mario odyssey, Zelda btw, hollow night, Kirby, the messenger, katana zero etc…) most of these games are digital so I got a Samsung 512gb micro sd card. But yeah definitely worth getting the switch in 2024

I hope they keep it for at least 9, the 3DS lasted for 9 years which is pretty long for a console's lifespan, and i don't see Nintendo getting rid of the switch just yet because of it's success
It also depends on whether you already have one. I have both a Switch Lite and a regular switch that I got in 2017. The switch stays docked to one of my TVs (I bought another cheap dock and charger off Amazon to put in front of my bedroom TV) and the Switch Lite goes everywhere with me as part of my travel bag. I have thought about replacing them both with the Switch OLED and gifting them to some of my younger cousins but I do expect another console to be dropped next year so I will probably hold off.
As someone who got their brothers switch on launch date and got their own OLED on launch date, I agree. Eagerly awaiting the next console!

I’ll be honest, that’s a really good point of view and one I don’t hear a lot. Especially in the day where people are like, is a 10 hour game really worth $70.
I agree though, time can definitely equate to value and if you’re going to be playing a lot, there’s a toooon of games and the portability aspect and amount of indies. No doubt it’ll be worth it for some players.
Tbh i don't think there gonna release a new console because the switch is still doing great in sales and the other main video game companies haven't made anything like the switch. I mean you can't make the switch any better (You can improve graphics and everything but im saying design wise it can't get much better (yes the joycons need fixing but that's what the split pad pro comes in) and making a home console would be kinda pointless after they made a home and portable one

As a first switch (yes I'm late) Im getting a V1. Not for piracy tho. Just for emulation and homebrew games. And also DS4 support (I just love that controller ok?).
I got my OLED Switch Yesterday And This Is Also My First Switch And I Won't Regret It Soon Later
It's not worth now but it will be as soon as the new console comes out. At least for us brazilians. It's just impossible to buy the Switch now. But after the next console gets released the prices for the Switch may drop. So we can ponder if we can get a Switch, dream of having a Wii U, consider getting a Wii and buy a Gamecube.
I hope the next console will be a handheld. And, if Nintendo takes a wise decision, we could be getting a console with an e-shop that has older games like Sonic Adventure and all that good stuff. Can't wait.
There are a few games I just really think are great on switch and I love handhelds. I've been playing mine at least twice a week during my lunch breaks at work.
The only thing that stopped me buying one in the first place was the price of the games and the fact that they dont really decrease in price overtime.
If you have a steam deck or a decent pc just use yuzu emulator too run switch games at better graphics and frame rate.
Nintendo is probably gonna keep milking the switch

Well, i would say yes or no because of homebrew. If you know how to mod a console, go ahead. If not, well, save 100 bucks for a used Wii U on somewhere.
As someone who has owned a switch since the console was technically brand new, definitely. A lot of the exclusives are memorable. Super Mario Odyssey, Breath of the Wild (I've spent a lot of hours on this one), Age of Calamity, and Bowser's fury. I'm sure tears of the kingdom will be just as good or maybe even better than BotW! Not to mention the Wii and Wii u ports. I hope this next console will have backwards compatibly.
Imo, definitely. But also just because you're going to buy one doesn't mean you have to buy one brand new. I bought my switch lite for $130 used, and it came with a case and BOTW and you can find deals similar to mine.
Don’t think we will see a new Nintendo console until 2025/2026.
The thing is, the Switch is a handheld home console hybrid, and Nintendo’s portable consoles are known for having very long life cycles.
The Game Boy, DS and 3DS all lasted for a decade each.
That being said the new console still has to gain a massive game library first so It take 1-2 more years for me to even co sider buying a new console
Buy used and local, picked up a og switched refurbished from my local game store for 150, even came with two games and all the cords needed
I will also if i waited for the new console and got it it would have like no games released

There’s still a bunch of backlog that I haven’t played yet in my switch library and used prices might go down once a new system launches. I might be playing it into 2030 at this rate
Yes. For the same reason I would say to buy a N64, GameCube, or Wii in 2023. Every Nintendo console is unique and have great games that are exclusive to each.

I got a switch lite specifically for the portability and love it take it wherever
I bought one last week and I already have 68 hours into one of the games I got! I'm not disappointed/regret buying it!
Wait for the pro model or go for the steam deck if you have to buy it now. Most of the new title run at 30 fps, finger cross if it even run with stable framerate. You at the mercy of dev whether they port to this old device good or not. Not worth stressing for device specs. Still, 2d light game run perfectly fine.
I want to buy the Pokemon special edition or maybe I could wait 😐

Taking into consideration the Switch's massive library of first party games, I would say it is totally worth it... and we don't know we might have a ps5 situation with the new console where it was very hard to get one on release

Tears of the kingdom is probably gonna be one of the last highly anticipated games to release on the switch, with botw being one of the first games to release on the switch which I think is kinda funny, I’ve only ever wanted a switch to play that one Zelda game, glad I got one a bit sooner to play the new HyRule warriors game, the remake of a links awakening and skyward sword HD… I still have yet to beat all 3 of those 🤣, I rarely touch my switch 🤷♂️
I just bought one, and I played it A LOT ever since a played ACNH. Not kidding. I spent 200+ hours into it.
As a Nintendo OLED switch owner, been using it for 2 years, not a fan of the switch games at all (just my opinion others might like the games), and am gonna prob pick up a ps5 for Christmas invest like a 150 more for the ps5 it's way more worth it

If you don't mind having legacy content, go for it.
While you won't get the absolute latest games, you will have a massive library available from the start.

There are so many amazing games and always some nice deals on the eshop (I play a lot of incredible games for under 10 dollars). I recommend buying 2 or 3 physical games, like Pokémon Violet, Zelda and Smash Bros. or maybe Mario Kart 8, just to get started. Also, do not ignore the free to play games, such as Rocket League or Fortnite. I guarantee that you will have many hours of fun without spending a fortune. Playing the switch outside is such a great time!

I think there should be an upgraded switch that has the joycon grip and stuff that makes it way better
The switch has indie games like cult of the lamb, bear and breakfast and Stardew. Most likely you already have some of those games on steam but this is a more affordable way to play those games on the go.
From the perspective of someone that bought a switch a few months ago unless you’re getting a really good deal I don’t recommend getting one and here’s why.
It’s a very underpowered console/handheld it has the same chipset as a 80 dollar android tablet, that being said most of the games still run really well for and look very good for what the switch is but a lot of the newer games the switch can’t handle (even in docked mode) and they are mainline Nintendo games which is honestly pretty sad. Games like Pokémon scarlet and violet, bayonetta 3, the main plaza in splatoon 3 is super laggy (all other gameplay is fine though so not a big deal) there’s more but I can’t speak on them because I’ve never played games other then those ones I mentioned so I saw those ones for myself. Also the “oled” model while it is nice it’s a very cheap oled panel one of the cheapest ones on the market honestly still good but not anything crazy.
So if you were going new and got a oled switch, 2 games, amd the 1 year subscription to the online service for 20$ that would be 500$ without applying tax, you can get the 64gb steam deck for 399$.
That’s only 40 dollars more then the oled switch and you get a way better device to play the same games.
It sucks that you won’t get the online aspect of the switch but legit everything else you can and it’ll do it better then the switch ever could.
I had a switch when they first released and I have love for it still that’s why I ended up picking one up again when the new Pokémon came out. Sold my first one to get my pc so I knew I needed another but honestly wish I would of bought a steam deck
They should make a console like the switch but it can play every Nintendo game ever made via the Eshop or Nintendo making hd remakes of popular Nintendo games or make sequels for older games

The real question is. Will Nintendos next gen console be backwards compatible? Will their next gen console be a regular none portable console that has more power, and the Switch will be left to take the place of the 3DS for more portable handheld games? If this happens then yeah, buy one. If the next gen console is just going to be a more powerful switch, then there's no need to buy one, just wait. If Nintendo discontinued the Nintendo Switch and their console is not backwards compatible, then definitely buy one now, they'll go up in price soon after discontinuation and the physical games are going to only be more expensive.
Time isn’t the point is the model phone you get out of it time is a factor, but not a necessity you say, I could play this thing for our playing a single player game and then be bored, but let’s say you get the same system to say a Family with kids they’re going to get a lot more fun out of it than I would. Are they gonna be able to play for as long no but will they get more fun out of it than I will probably
i use my switch all the time. i bought my own just before the oled came out (still mad about that but whatever) and i use it every day
I’ve put about 350 hours in the switch in less than 3 years and I still play my PlayStation more it’s kinda weird

Defo worth it. New consoles and new hardware are nice and all but the amount of new games coming to the switch continue even up to now. Aside from the benefit of switch exclusives, you also get ports of old nostalgic games. In short, I agree xD
