as a guy that has to do this kinda stuff on all sorts of type of vehicles/equipment. and end up having to watch lots of videos, i really appreciate how you did this one. one dude doing the work, another filming and talking. this ensures we get a good view of whats going on. and can get two guys possibly differing knowledge/opinions on the tasks. it's really hard to make decent videos solo, so the two person approach makes a big difference. Also you guys actually took it apart, step by step. no pulling stuff ahead of time, no stuff not being shown. this is very helpful to viewers, so we can see all the steps, all the hard parts, and go in knowing full well what were in for, and have a decent idea of the tools we need to have on hand ahead of time.
these videos saved me anywhere from 2-4K . I've never worked on a diesel before, but after watching this series, I was able to do the EGR replacement. The billowing white smoke is no longer there, & the truck runs great! I can't thank powerstrokehelp enough!
Just replaced EGR Valve, IPR, EGR Cooler and Oil Cooler on my 06 6.0. Followed this series step by step. Truck is running great now so thank you for these great videos.
Wish I was better with my words, but I want to thank you for this part 1 video! You could literally start off with "how to replace your oil cooler with basic tools". From step one to where we are now I have played the video then paused it where we was at, we knew exactly what tool to use and what to do do next! Day later or on video 2 and I can't express my gratitude!! Not all angels have wings!!
the neat part about having an 06 truck is ALL the knowledge is out there on youtube already, a great deal from powerstrokehelp. you guys are awesome. The longer i can go without having to pay 90 grand for a truck, the more time ill have to turn wrenches on my pick up
Love your videos man, it's like being in a classroom. I've been following your channel for awhile now and I think I know what I want to do in life now. Thank you for inspiring me
Thanks. Great video. We did this last year to an early 04 6.0. We used a lot of dieseltechron and your videos to help us get it all back together right.
Holy crud! So much detail in so little time. And i have NO idea how you guys keep track of all those bolts to re-install! I'll stick to my regular 9-5 and pay you pros to do the work.
14:33 - A quick shot of lubricant to the end of the hose before using the hose pick makes getting the hose off a little easier and lessens the chance of damaging the hose. Also, after the pick is first in, spray in-between the pick and the inside of the hose for an extra bit of insurance. I work on Mopars for a living, I use Mopar MP50 for this (I think it's Mopar's equivalent of WD 40, doesn't damage the hose either).
Moral of the story, don't buy a 6.0 or 6.4. Nightmare is an understatement. Had three 6.4s on my farm and just as Bill stated on one of his videos and I quote "6.4s are basically a throw away engine after 150K miles". So much clutter just to meet EPA garbage. Great video, professional job. Thumbs up
Bill I don't even own a Ford but I like watching & learning from your videos. I hope Joe received some extra headache pay for you videoing over his shoulder! Ed
Hey Bill just sent your camra on auto focus an dont worry about those aging eyes lol!! great vidoe you an your team are very good at wht yall do, i have learned alot from you thanks Bill!
Hey, you guys f*ckin rock. You have no idea how familiar your voice sounds now lmao. Best repair video I've seent yet. Went into this never working on a diesel. With everything you provide in these videos, an imbicile could complete this job!
I personally pulled mains on an engine running Quaker State that had been driven for more than 75 miles after the distributor shaft broke near the oil pump, so it had zero oil pressure, and they looked almost like new. I also pulled several of the rod bearings while I was at it and they all looked good as well. The engine was a 318 in a 70's Dodge Aspen. My idiot brother was the one driving the car and didn't believe me so he sold the car afterwards and the guy who bought it drove that car for another 10-15 years until he died. As far as I know the car is still running. So hold off on that BS that Quaker State is a bad oil. I haven't run it in a diesel so perhaps in diesels it doesn't perform as well there, but it works pretty damn good in gas engines as I have personally seen several go well beyond 200k running Quaker State.
Shesse! Look at the turbo, it's full of crud and slag.. Remember kids, always use Shell Rotella and Archoil in your 6 liter, or your turbo will be looking like this!
Your videos have been the best. Early 2004 f250 6liter has been a great truck. Need hints on how to break the horizontal turbo bolt mount facing passenger. Pen lubed cused and bleeding arms and still won't budge. Tried short bix end 10mm 6point and pry bars etc... trying to change egr cooler and oil cooler. HELP!! Have a butterfly Ingersoll rand impact coming soon that should fit from Passenger side. Sure don't want to round off this bolt.
love these new videos you've been putting out that show the process. I know you've probably heard about the new 3.0l v6 powerstroke on the upcoming 2018 f-150, do you plan on servicing those trucks in the future or do you plan on staying with f-250 and above tiers?
I didn't know a set of pliers specifically for those hose clamps existed...I will be investing in some of those asap. Those band style hose clamps are probably one of my all time most hated things ever.
What is that plastic piece called that you don't want to break the one that has the wiring harness behind it. I bought a super duty in that pieces broke into somebody's been in there I just don't know what it's called to order another one., great video guys
Lmfao Bill is a A true gem to diesel guys... you Can’t buy his humor can tell you and the snap on mans made good friends... bout making his car payments lmfao
sabretechv2 it's not based on the 6.7. It's a motor that ford has been using on other products in other countries. It's currently in the new land rovers in the U.S
You can also just pull on your belt from the passenger side . And pull with your left hand and set the lock tab with you right hand . Then put belt in place pull towards the battery it will click and release lock tab .... Keep you finger clear people common sense ..think safety & think
@powerstrokehelp thanks so much for the video. Please record with a iPhone 7+ this video is very shaky. I would never own a diesel but love your videos. I have watched all of them. Thank you
I've got a 2006 6.0L that's beginning to give an intermittent battery charge warning light. If it's the alternator causing the problem am I looking at this much tear down to replace it?
Okay where did i fuck up i changed the oil cooler gasket because my 2005 f250 was liking oil everything when back in just fine but the truck starts when could but wont starter when it worms up
In the video you chastise joe for not disconnecting the battery and then he begins disconnecting it by removing the positive first. Then you mentioned all that needed to be disconnected was the wire to the alternator. Just to clarify the following: aren't you supposed to unhook both grounds first before removing any hot (red) wires? The way joe disconnected the battery he could have still inadvertently grounded the hot to the vehicle since the other side was still connected? And same with the alternator wire is it hot when removed such that it too would ground out if touched to the body? Just on here to learn not trying to be a dick
All that unburned fuel is getting into your oil bad for your engine not good , and those wheels hanging out side the finder opening is going to damage your paint, not good for your wheel bearings either

Kudos to Joe for being able to work with Bill doing the play-by-play over his shoulder. There is a lot of skill on display here. No pressure...

Do you have any mechanic experience I’m looking to do it but looks kinda daunting
The fact this is freely available is insane, much thanks!
Just replaced EGR Valve, IPR, EGR Cooler and Oil Cooler on my 06 6.0. Followed this series step by step. Truck is running great now so thank you for these great videos.

Oh crap. I thought I was going to do this job on my 07...........It would take a week of spare time. Joe's got this!
Repair manual: Step one, disconnect batteries.
Seasoned mechanic: Step, whenever I get around to it.
Man the way u guys move around that motor is amzing
That Joe knows what’s up. Like watching someone who is a professional in there field. That’s a fine job
I love you guys. Ya'll show this instructions better than me going to school to learn this sheeet.
Holy crud! So much detail in so little time. And i have NO idea how you guys keep track of all those bolts to re-install! I'll stick to my regular 9-5 and pay you pros to do the work.
Your my HERO!!!! Keep these video's coming!!!

all heroes dont wear capes really appreciate this video
"its good to have a magnetic tray to set ur nuts and bolts in". Pans over to nuts and bolts sitting on the cab
Bill I don't even own a Ford but I like watching & learning from your videos. I hope Joe received some extra headache pay for you videoing over his shoulder! Ed
Love this video! Keep posting these kind of videos!
looks easy for you guys.Right tools and great employee.
love these style videos, I have only done one of these, and I took off way more than Joe did.
Great video. Good information you teach very well.
Bill what are your impressions of the upcoming 3.0 "powerstroke" that's going to be offered in the 2018 f150?
I love how Joe corrected Bill, when he said the bolt for the turbo..., mount, and Joe said, "pedestal." Ha
the sure sign of getting old is when a foxy lady walks by and your pacemaker opens the garage door.
Hey Bill just sent your camra on auto focus an dont worry about those aging eyes lol!! great vidoe you an your team are very good at wht yall do, i have learned alot from you thanks Bill!

What a nightmare! Kudos for those that work on Powerstrokes for a living.
I have done plenty of egr coolers and never take anything apart from the radiator
Should you always do an oil cooler with an egr cooler. I don't have the milkshake in my Degas bottle or coolant in oil?
love these new videos you've been putting out that show the process. I know you've probably heard about the new 3.0l v6 powerstroke on the upcoming 2018 f-150, do you plan on servicing those trucks in the future or do you plan on staying with f-250 and above tiers?

I'm about to do this on an 06 can't wait for the next vid!!!
How'd it turn out?
Just bought an 06 with 132k and it has no issues... yet.
What were your results ?
How many shop hours will this job take
Lmfao Bill is a A true gem to diesel guys... you
Can’t buy his humor can tell you and the snap on mans made good friends... bout making his car payments lmfao
where is the list of tools? I need to do this job this week on my 06.
Bill! Have you heard about the 3.0 V6 PowerStroke they're introducing in the 2018 F150?? I'm sure it's based on the 6.7 but curious what you think
sabretechv2 it's not based on the 6.7. It's a motor that ford has been using on other products in other countries. It's currently in the new land rovers in the U.S
simjet22 Ah okay I wasn't aware, that makes a lot more sense.
another great video :)
Wow you know you're fast when you dont have to edit out the time it took to do each thing
That's not joe, that's jose😂😂
You can also just pull on your belt from the passenger side . And pull with your left hand and set the lock tab with you right hand . Then put belt in place pull towards the battery it will click and release lock tab .... Keep you finger clear people common sense ..think safety & think
Hi, Joe! I thought Bill did all the work until I saw you and Mikey.
@powerstrokehelp thanks so much for the video. Please record with a iPhone 7+ this video is very shaky. I would never own a diesel but love your videos. I have watched all of them. Thank you
whats that part on the turbo that looks like a little cap that flips up? Its between the compressor and the turbine on the outside of the turbo.
Wastegate?
That's the vgt solenoid
Did ford fired the EGR engineer?
Poj Dia Vaj ford didn’t make this motor. International did.
U guys are amazing
Joe is a Beast
Good job boys!! Do you have a video on replacing the a/c compressor on an 04 6.0??? Man this thing is being a bear!!
good video ..always undo battery first thing..bad things can happen lol
Shoot ... I can take it apart , I just won't be able to put it back together 😂😂
Ooh, a new tool I need to buy: an air chisel.
a real man just pulls on the belt then sets the tab.
I,.too, thought the camera was out of focus until I put on my Old Man Reading Glasses.
Got mine on, too
Very Good!...
I have 2004 6.0 diesel. And I get p401 code error what I can check first?
Great video thankyou.
Do you guys have a video on how to remove a cab?
I've got a 2006 6.0L that's beginning to give an intermittent battery charge warning light. If it's the alternator causing the problem am I looking at this much tear down to replace it?
It's not currently showing any codes. I had it serviced after the battery idiot light started to come on and there was no code.
Alternator is probably the easiest thing to replace on a 6.0...its right on top ...4 bolts thats it
What does it mean when there's too much pressure in the engine
I got an LB7 duramax, man the 6.0 is scary under the hood
If you think that's scary, go watch a video of changing the belt on a 6.7L, or just about anything on a 6.4L. I think I'll keep my 7.3!
if you think thats scary. try doing a turbo or injectors on a lb7. or even head gaskets.
The 6.9/7.3 idi is the best to get a lot less bs and easy to work on!
Shop quoted me 8 hrs +... Joe smashed it by 7 hrs
Also removing small and large hose at that location is new
i was noticing that turbo right before you mentioned it thats not a good sign of the motor eh
Maybe my '91 5.8 egr delete wasn't as difficult as I thought it was
would it have been better if u took the cab/dog house off first??
Okay where did i fuck up i changed the oil cooler gasket because my 2005 f250 was liking oil everything when back in just fine but the truck starts when could but wont starter when it worms up
Try the dummy plugs
where the hell is the engine
Ok, great video, but am I the only one who saw everything come off except for the egr cooler? Or did I miss something?.....
Unfortunately Bill never had a chance to get old 😔
Jose a monster!!
my gaaaad maaaan, sooo complicated
Guys, how in the F%$* do you remember which bolts fasten back to each component. Very impressive.
interesting im pretty sure it takes lots of experience.
when's the next one?
Solution to our diesel problems: make ford, Gm, sit under toyota's tutelage on how to make an engine that doesn't bankrupt poor owners. Cronies
Can I come work for you?
In the video you chastise joe for not disconnecting the battery and then he begins disconnecting it by removing the positive first. Then you mentioned all that needed to be disconnected was the wire to the alternator. Just to clarify the following: aren't you supposed to unhook both grounds first before removing any hot (red) wires? All that unburned fuel is getting into your oil bad for your engine not good , and those wheels hanging out side the finder opening is going to damage your paint, not good for your wheel bearings either
second......yes!!!!
Whoa, plastic CAC tube and a throttle body? Interesting
I remove radiator and fan for this job. Seeing this is like its being done on onother planet
Isn’t ground first
That hole u said if it isn’t clear then......
What a freaking nightmare.
Its your mouth that is out of focus.
heh... he said nut
Your doing to much
What a pain in the ass
jesus you can have that junk
