- democracynow.org - A Palestinian-American speech pathologist in Austin, Texas, has filed a federal lawsuit for losing her job after refusing to sign a pro-Israel oath. Bahia Amawi is an Arabic-speaking child language specialist who had worked for nine years in the Pflugerville Independent School District. But she lost her job last year after she declined to sign a pledge that she would “not boycott Israel during the term of the contract” and that she would not take any action that is “intended to penalize, inflict economic harm on, or limit commercial relations with Israel.” We speak with Bahia Amawi and Gadeir Abbas, senior litigation attorney with the Council on American-Islamic Relations. He is representing Amawi in her lawsuit against the Pflugerville Independent School District and the state of Texas.

I experienced this first hand as a contractor who travels across the US doing school programs. On my way back home to Michigan coming from California, I had a school to present to in Texas. Just prior to the program, I was asked to sign a contract requiring that I can't even so much as criticize Israel. That struck me as very odd but it was good money so I signed it. I'm ashamed, really, and I'm embarrassed to admit that this tiny woman has a bigger set of balls than I'll ever have

Steven Feldman, a dermatologist in North Carolina, spoke to medical students at the University of Arkansas in February on improving patient outcomes. He then tried to set up a profile at the school’s online portal to collect his $500 honorarium. One of the boxes he needed to check off required him to promise not to boycott Israel, The Forward reported. Feldman did not check the box. He soon received a note saying he hadn’t filled out the form correctly in order to receive the payment.
The authorities need to expel the management of University of Arkansas immediately. It's obvious they hate Israel.
The best solution - US authorities must deport the management of that university. Their US citizenship revoked, and US passports withheld by US immigration.

How exactly does it violate her first amendment rights? If she wanted for example to advocate drug use in school and was refused a contract due to that, would that also be a violation of her rights? She can protest all she wants and voice her opinion about it, but that doesn't mean the school needs to employ her. That is the law in Texas and she needs to follow it just like anyone else.
