  • The 100th week in this "Ⓗ series", in which we're following the #construction of a new 12-story hospital that will occupy an entire city block in San Francisco. This is a one-week construction #timelapse at 900x, with 30 highlights/closeups at various speeds scattered throughout, compressing the week of May 23 to 27, 2016 into about 37 minutes. Non-working days and nights are omitted.
    Another week with a lot of curtain wall glass panel activity. They bring in another mobile #crane to help, and unlike last week's mobile crane, this one gets used quite a bit. We see a new #towercrane (unrelated to "our" project) go up in the distance, although yet another crane in the foreground keeps trying to block our view. Installation of a new elevator (a.k.a. man lift) begins right in front of our vantage point, over top of what used to be the opening to the underground pedestrian tunnel. I tried again to capture some ductwork installation, with partial success. There's a little more shenanigans in the street that just happened to be captured, which I debated a bit whether to include, but I decided to go ahead and include it, setting this series apart from your typical construction time-lapse, I guess.
    This is a week of round numbers. It is the 100th week, and also the channel reached 1,000 subscribers! Thanks to all who have subscribed!
    I'm using the same music for all of these weekly time-lapses, because there's too many of them and they're too long to license different music for each one. There's no dialogue or other audio in these weekly time-lapses, just music, so you are welcome to turn down the volume and provide your own accompaniment music.

    I love to look at the coordination of the work on the construction site, and the amount and variety of used equipment. And safety rarely found in Poland, unfortunately ....

      We will see what happens when the building is eventually all closed up and the construction is all inside -- I don't know what will happen then. But sometime in 2018/2019, I hope to someday have some shots of the hospital in operation, ambulances coming and going, etc.

      It would be great if they let you shoot in the middle of finishing work. It is even possible Hospital Construction?

      Unfortunately, it is not up to me, and so far it doesn't look very likely. But you never know.

    It would be awesome if they would allow you to mount cameras inside so you can track the progress of the interior work when all the glass is up.

      I agree, but unfortunately it is not under my control and so far they haven't allowed that.

    Interesting old painting advert "ghost sign" for Wrigley's Spearmint on side of building 12:00 onwards... Polk & Bush (I too took a stroll via street view that is)

      Yes, you see those sometimes, usually on the sides of old brick buildings. Sometimes the signs are from as far back as the early 1900's. Usually not before 1906, though, for obvious reasons. Often they say things like "Rooms. Daily. Weekly. Hot baths."

    We need a bigger crane to lift that pesky drama queen black crane off the stage. At one point there were 7cranes in the neighborhood. Congratulations on the 100th video it is full of good stuff. Did you plan all that for us?

    These videos are so interesting! Any idea how tall tower crane 2 is at a guess?
    I'd say 300 feet, does that sound about right compared to the hospital's height?

    • @HospitalConstruction
      @HospitalConstruction  8 років тому

      I've been trying to find an answer to that question, but so far my sources have not come through, unfortunately. I assume it also depends upon where you measure from and to, as the base of the crane is at the very bottom, below ground level at the lowest level of the parking garage, and whether you measure to very top point (which apparently has an anemometer for measuring wind speed on the top, by the way). The highest point of the building (exhaust stack) is around 260 feet or so above Van Ness street level. That doesn't include the parking garage underneath. I could probably go back and look at the videos and count how many sections there are, and maybe find out how tall each section is from the crane mfg's site, but I've never done it. If I ever get an answer, I'll let you know.

      It took a while, but I got information from two different sources, and it is conflicting. Apparently, with tower cranes, the most important thing is "hook height", not necessarily the entire height of the crane. According to one source, the distance from the hook to the very top of the crane is 42 feet. One source says crane 1 is 373 feet and crane 2 is 335 feet, but it is not clear if that is hook height or total height. The other source says the hook height of crane 1 is 256 feet and the hook height of crane 2 is 294 feet. That source says that crane 1 is eventually supposed to climb higher to a hook height of 332 feet. So, these numbers are conflicting, but at least it gives you a rough idea.
