    I replaced the battery with a Samsung cell from one of my vapes and battery life is a lot better. Also, my one has a off white/grey backlight instead of your orange one. Anyway, great review as always. :)

    I'm in the States, Louisiana. I have the XHDATA D-808 also. I love it. I haven't had any issues with battery life. I just checked and I have the XHDATA 18650 battery too...I haven't touched the radio in a month and it shows 2 bars. It was 2 bars the last time I used it, I kept and eye on the indicator. So, I don't know about your problem.

    Thanks for the very interesting feedback on this radio, Fred. Good to know that it can withstand such a stunt!
    I have the early version of this radio, bought in 2019. The one with the white display backlight. I don't see this battery depletion issue at all on mine. It sometimes stays in a drawer for 2 or 3 months and I've never seen a battery charge drop of more than one bar. Strange.
    I really like this radio, my first real SW/SSB radio and the only one I've had for a couple of years. I've used it a lot then and it still works perfectly.
    My only gripes: the loudspeaker isn't great for a radio of this size, especially for listening to FM broadcast.
    The paged memory system is a pain in the back.
    Also, I've seen a few reports of people having trouble with the BFO flat wheel. This one seems to be fragile on the new version (orange display) of the radio at least. Should be handled with care.
    Keep up the great videos!
    I see that you own the XHDATA E-100 HT too. I need to go watch your review of it. Not really impressed myself.

    I had the same issue, the battery is fine if you use the radio every day. However if you leave the radio for a five days or so, there is a power drain and I came back to the radio to find it dead no power at all.
    It is however a fantastic receiver and I really like it.

    I'm not seeing the power issue you report. I bought my D-808 in March of 2023. It's the XHDATA branded version in a gray case with amber back light, rubber feet and the USB-C charge port. I rarely use it anymore and I'm sure I haven't changed or charged the battery in several months. When I checked it just now, the battery indicator was a full 3 bars. The clock was 10 minutes slow.

    Hi Fred. Thanks for the video. I have the same radio and I dont suffer at all from this problem, so maybe it’s just your radio. Return it maybe. Anyway just to let you know that there is a perfect case for this radio! I heard it from another owner. Buy the Peli 1040 case. I bought mine and it’s literally a perfect fit for the radio. Regards Rob.

    Ah yes. This is something that is missed by almost all reviewers. I have the Australian Digitech version of this radio that uses AA batteries. Indeed, this radio DOES discharge batteries even when not being used. Whilst the batteries may last 10, 20 or 30 hours (AA version) if used within a couple of weeks, it will always be less than that if only used occasionally over a longer period of time. I used 2 or maybe 3 sets of batteries in the 1st year I had it, and used the unit for only a few hours. The designers put little effort into the standby current (ie when turned off). Even a cheap watch with a miniature battery lasts much longer than most digital radios. So, its not so much that it has a "clock", rather, it's that they dont bother to design it properly. Most of my radios do this. However the Tecsun 310 and 380 are not to bad. The PL330 is best though - with the very small battery being still usable after even a year with only occasional use. Thanks for your great reviews though.

      I wish they had a way to minimize draw from the clock/temp and still be able to keep the memories in the radio for long term storage.

    I have had mine for about a year now, I cant complain about it, battery life is better than i thought it would be. The only thing is the Air band, it does not use the 8.83 frequency. I hope I got that right the 8.83?

    When I got the radio it was at two bars and no matter how long( 48 hrs even ) I charged it ,it never got to a full charge (three bars)see I I took the battery out of the radio and fully charged it. It been three weeks since I recharged the radio and have used it for about three hours and the charge never went down ,still three bars .So I think the problem is with the battery and the need to fully charge it .Maybe the internal charging circuit can't get the power up to the battery .Maybe try and charge the battery externally and see what happens ?Regards ,I love your videos .

    I know you don't like to do comparison videos, but I would appreciate your opinion on the reception and sound of this radio the D808 to the TR113 you reviewed a couple of months ago. I appreciate the TR113 is about double the price at $175 vs $80 for the D808. Is it worth waiting for the higher cost unit?

    • @CB-RADIO-UK
      @CB-RADIO-UK  2 місяці тому +1

      Hi. The TR113 has a superb sound with its bass radiator system esp on FM. The 808 is tuned more for clear DX audio which lacks bass but is good for speech. Both radios tune the same with muted DSP. The 808 certainly gets the job done.

    • @k5wxp22
      @k5wxp22 2 місяці тому +1

      I have one of each, and they are both fun and capable radios. I prefer the XHDATA over the Tecsun, mainly for the build quality. The tuning knob, especially (Tecsun seems a bit wobbly). I like the page memory just fine, but the Tecsun system is very easy to use, as well. I can't seem to find much difference in reception, except the XHDATA seems to do better with MW AM local stations (I am in Dallas/Fort Worth, Tx).
      For me with the prices being so close, it's really a matter of personal preference, but again I would pick the XHDATA.
