I bought a Woodland HM 122 a couple years ago. Really like it seems well made. Customer service is great. I've maxed it out a couple of times. Still did the job. I'm very happy with the mill. I have the 7 horse power Kohler motor. Bob
Right on! I’m really happy with my purchase, the HM 122 is really well built. I just milled a bunch of old Cedar the other day into 1/2” thick boards for the ceiling of a cabin project I’m working on. 😊👍
A friend and I went in on a hm22 mill and opted for the trailer. I'm 6' 4" and working on the ground is hard on my back. We also have the luxury of a tractor to place logs on the mill. It's been a great mill for the last three years and we've put just 60 hrs on it so far. I have found that the blade tightening system is superb. made marks on it in the beginning and I've checked it with the torque wrench each spring and no adjustment necessary.. The legs on the trailer have kind of small pads so we put flat blocks under them on setup and it remains pretty stable. I'm glad to hear your positive review with your experience with other mills.
Right on! The trailer would have been nice, I kind of wish I ordered that when I bought the mill. I’m thinking of building a simple trailer for mine at some point. I’m glad you have been happy with your Woodland mill. Thanks for comment and checking out my video 😊👍
Super excited to watch. This looks awesome!!! Great job Mike thanks for another video. As always so well done. Clear concise and well explained!! Happy Friday
Mike, you really have the knack to explain and review useful tools that expand one’s capabilities. Such as reminding the viewers that you need equipment to move the log and get it up on the mill. No sense buying more mill than your logs or equipment need/can use. All the best to you 👍👍😎👍👍
This is the best Wood Mizer instructional video. Nice pace and clear description when discussing every aspect of setting up and then lots of great info about using this bandsaw. Thanks for taking the time to create this film. I've been watching loads of these sort of videos, but your film really stands out.
One of the best explanations of setting the sawmill up ! I hope you put out a full build video without any Timelapse. Maybe even sell the video to Woodland Mills. Enjoy your new cool toy !
I have a cousin that tried to build a sawmill, but he didn't use a truck axle for his drive wheel. He used a CV axle, and the wheel moved when he would start to cut. The blade guides came off a stripped down x-ray machine, and were used for rotation of the head. The bearings were well made, and worked on the blade very nicely. He wound up selling it, and I met the new owner at a lumber store, while he was shopping for supplies.
i've had this on my wish list for years now. seems to be the best value. The Woodland one is mounted on quad posts so it's much more solid than the Harbor Freight. No brainer
Ben looking for a good built saw mill.Happen to seen this video ,but I was leaning toward Woodland. After watching and hearing the way this is built.I'M in THANK YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good advice there bud, I was an ex carpenter, joiner and machinist (re saw mainly) for furniture etc. Think what you want to do and make a plan, so you can either buy what you need or buy the components and ask the experts on the net if you are not sure. Never forgetting not to run until can walk properly as missing bits will not grow back. Keep safe all, from us in the UK.
Been watching since your bandsaw mill build years ago. Always wanted to build one but just don't have the metalworking skills. Just bought the HM122 a couple weeks ago. Saw this video about halfway through my assembly! Really pleased with it. Got the bed extension and 9.5 engine too. Love your videos. Teaching myself to weld.
I loved my hm122 so much , I went and bought the trailer which comes with the 6foot extension and added the ramp and winch...I love this machine I have had it for a year and I don't buy any lumber anymore
Man, that seems like a well built sawmill! I'll be moving soon and been thinking about a sawmill to buy. I think i know which one to get now. Thanks for the review and unboxing.
This machine looks nice. I always wanted one, but then i remember i dont have forest-wood, so it would probably just sit in backyard. Good to see there are still company that took pride in their product👍
Looks like a smart bit of kit, they clearly thought about their end user and fostering brand loyalty. One thing that caught my was the tube to store the instruction manual affixed to the mill, on of those details that shows they considered how people use things.
They definitely put a lot of thought into this mill, the instructions in that tube are really well written, there’s a lot of info on tracking and setting the guides. Thanks for checking out my new video 😊
i got a hm126 last month , only took 8 hrs to have it set up , but i took 2 weeks to build a raised framework to set it on lol . they cut great , now the hard part , logging
Definitely much better build quality then I was expecting especially for the price 👍 I milled a bunch of 1/2” thick Cedar boards the other day for a cabin ceiling, milled them really well. Take care Tom 😊
That's really cool Mike, it's a total bargin price and in some sense it is very logical to go and just buy one rather then try to sort out all the kinks and stuff building your own. I ended up paying about 1k for my mill, but the cheapest mill i could buy locally was about 5k. This looks like a very good mill for ~3k, wish we had the same options here in Estonia then you guys have there in the States, looks like you have about atleast 70% more of everything.

I still really enjoyed the process of it all and that DIY mill actually started my YT channel 👍 That’s how I found your channel originally, we built our mills around the same time. I used the metal crate to build a rolling miter saw stand. They have really improved the 122 since I got mine, I immediately upgraded mine to have the top angled piece using tubing. Also…. The cheap (Or it was when I got it) hf or northern trailer kit…. I chopped the axle and narrowed it and used the rest of the components of the trailer kit and two long straight square tubes to make a trailer for it. With your Langmuir you could do it faster too…. The 9.5 is the way. And extension was the way too. So I have a 20ft trailer that is integral to the rails …. 20 feet of track means you can reliably get 16 foot lumber. Anyway as long as you have a really flat piece of concrete you can safely align everything and tack it to the tubing and trailer stuff. Just don’t forget to strap the saw head down to the track for trailing it around
Yes I just cut a bunch of Cedar for interior ceiling boards 👍 definitely would have cost at least $300 or $400. Definitely will pay for itself this year.
Just the fact it doesn't have booger welds all over is a good sign, but little things like a drain plug extension says alot. You wouldn't have ever gotten that on a Crapsmen 😆 Great detailed video. One day, I WILL NEED one of these 🤞
Thanks for checking out my new video! Milling your own lumber is definitely enjoyable, the funny thing is even though it’s loud it’s pretty relaxing and enjoyable to do.
Thanks for sharing. That hm122 is a beast for the money. I think that is a great value machine. I hope you do a review in like a year or so to let us know how it's held up.
I really enjoyed the video from start to finish, I am considering a mill and was wondering about this brand. Now I am more interested. thank you for the patience about explaining while you put it together.
Thanks for checking out my new video 👍 I really like this mill and the build quality. I just milled a lot of Cedar for ceiling boards for a cabin I’m working on. The cedar boards turned out really nice 😊
Nice to see another sawmill video 😊 Just curious how much that timber would cost you if you bought it? I know it needs to season but I would imagine it's a chunk of the investment repaid just in the first few logs.
At some point could you run through the way to properly process a log on the mill and things to consider for getting useable lumber. Thanks for the video's Mike
Definitely will! Thanks for the suggestion on the future video 👍 I will at least show how I like to process down a log, there’s many ways to go about it but I try and get maximum boards out of each log. I also have some tips that can help out someone new to milling 😊
Thanks for checking out my video. Mill is still working great, I loaned it to my friend for the next few months so he could get a lot of logs milled up for spring time projects 👍
Thanks Ants! I have taken some time off from making videos, just starting to get back at it again 😊👍 Been working on my Yanmar these days, hydraulic cylinder rebuild paint stuff like that.
Ive never bought a sawmill, but I have had some large crates delivered and EVERY TIME the crate looks intact upon arrival and I sign off on it as being damage free; and then when I take it apart I realize the crate was damaged but the trucker had put more packaging around the outside to hide the damage.
Awesome ! A lot of good info watching you build :) my HM122 should be here in a few days :) just busy laying out a spot to build a shed for it, so I guess I will be milling some good heavy beams first thing :) I ordered the 9.5 for mine even though I probably won't mill anything over 16" or 18" that's a pretty big tree,
Sweet Mike. I still like your homemade but this is cool to do what your after with it. Cut yourself some log stops the same square size out of hardwood and use them when cutting some stuff like edging boards. If you accidentally hit it no big deal. And can also draw lines on it with black marker like you said. Thanks for the video. Good luck. 👍
Considering how I thought your home-made sawmill was absolutely badass. It has to be a great mill for you to be talking up this new mill. I have done my research on all the sawmills out there. And there is nothing close to the price versus what all you get out of this mill.
Great review mike. I was hoping we would see it mounted on the trailer with the tractor. I’m also looking to purchase this exact same setup for our small farm. We are clearing a bunch of area and I need to pull up a bunch of pine.. possible poll barn build , along with some fencing and animal out buildings.
This mill will be perfect for what you are looking to do with it. I do recommend buying the track extension when purchasing the mill, they don’t charge anymore for shipping for them if shipped out with the mill. If you order them later they charge $200 for shipping out the extensions. Take care 😊👍
@@Mikefestiva I will be doing the extensions and the extra blades to save on the shipping. I was wondering if the blades are decent quality, or should be look to a different vendor? I know a lot of guys seem to use the woodmizer blades on the cheaper mills.
@@1620GarageAndFarm the original Blade that shipped with the mill only lasted 3.5 hours before it broke, I think the original one shipped with the mill is definitely not good quality. But I would think the ones sold from Woodland is probably better quality. @@boatrvme8478 No not yet, I ordered some blades from my friend that has a blade business, still running one of his blades, I will test out a Woodmizer blade in the next few weeks to see how they do.
love the video. i noticed that the nut that came lose was because the bolts are not long enough for the plastic part of the nut to tread which is what makes the nut a locking nut. maybe when i buy mine if it is the same way i will buy longer bolts.
One of the selling points of the HM122 is its affordability, making it accessible for small-scale woodworkers, hobbyists, and those looking for a cost-effective milling solution. The HM122 is designed to be easily portable, allowing users to bring the mill to the location of the logs rather than transporting logs to a fixed mill.
Always wondered, now I know, about the quality and origin of the materials used in this Woodland Mills saw ( and other equipment that these folks offer ) (( all the metric sized hardware, it kind of tells you where it came from, AND, apparently this one's worth the money )) Bear in mind folks, that there`s nothing at all wrong with metric sized equipment, it`s just that a lot of people in the US and elsewhere, are not quite yet used to it.
Mike, great review. I just picked up a used HM122. I would love to see more on the track you built for the gantry head and your tractor... I'm considering that same thing.
Mike, Great video..... I just ordered my HM126 mill. I have watched a gazillion videos and the one thing I have questions about is what to place the mill on, some are very elaborate, and some not so much. I'm leaning toward something like the one in this video, I just wonder how stable that is with temperature changes?
I would suggest to mill some 6x6” beams and set the mill on them. I did the very minimum in this video to set it up and I definitely recommend someone a bit more solid. I plan on milling some bigger beams for the base this fall. I think you will really enjoy owning a sawmill 😊👍
Thanks for checking out my new video video Matt 👍 At the moment I probably won’t install a power head lift, mainly because I want to keep it really simple. In the future I may look into a stator for the engine to see if I can ad one to put out 12 volts. I do think adding a power lift would be really easy on this mill.
Is there any advantage to cutting slabs and then edging them as opposed to cutting a cant? I have a small Alaska mill and a couple of chainsaws but I fancy getting myself a bandsaw mill although I don't think I will be able to source this one as I live in the UK, however there are local manufacturers of small starter mills here, I just have to do my home work and find out which one is the best for my budget.
Love you and your brother's content! Just out there making it happen. Off topic, BT200X front brake thought. Do you see a reason why it wouldn't work to make a circular bolt flange and weld it to the center spindle of the front rim to facilitate a generic disc brake kit be able to bolt up to that flange?🤔
Hi, I have same bandsaw, brand new...after setting up and making first cuts, the band keeps dropping of the saw...do you have any similar situation happen before?
Woodland should be thrilled you purchased their mill.

Always wondered, now I know, about the quality and origin of the materials used in this Woodland Mills saw ( and other equipment that these folks offer ) (( all the metric sized hardware, it kind of tells you where it came from, AND, apparently this one's worth the money ))
Bear in mind folks, that there`s nothing at all wrong with metric sized equipment, it`s just that a lot of people in the US and elsewhere, are not quite yet used to it.
I liked your home built mill
Henry Ford would be pleased with the mass production component and the quality of pieces.
Mike, great review. I just picked up a used HM122. I would love to see more on the track you built for the gantry head and your tractor... I'm considering that same thing.
One thing I don’t see are mill owners blow off their mills. I would have a leaf blower handy at all times.
Glad to see you and I had exact deal on build.
I think you will really enjoy owning a sawmill 😊👍
looks good! thanks for the video.
Great review! I've been on the fence on which model I might need, this one foots the bill. Thanks!
Yeah it’s definitely built far better then I was expecting. Definitely offers good value and features for the cost. 👍
Great video and very informative, thanks
Nice work planning on getting one 👍
very happy with mine blades are reasonable priced
My 122 will be here in couple days. I've owned 2 woodmizers so interested to compare them.
Harbor Freight saw comes in the same metal angle iron crate, actually heavier than what your WM came in. Both the WM and HF are great lower end saws.
Awesome video, you just made up my mind,,,thanks..
Right on, thanks for checking out my video 👍
Great info....thanks for sharing
Cant believe you bought a woodland mills.. also have one . Could you do auto head lift on this one to so i can copy it this is just like school
Ok,I'll say it, "You're a cut above the rest,Mike".... ;)
Great video thank you for sharing
Thanks for watching! 😊👍
thanks for sharing 👍
Love your work 👍
That’s a nice one I gat a harbor freight one before they went up and I’m pretty happy with mine it turned out nice I made a trailer for mine to go on
Right on! I have definitely been thinking of building a trailer for mine. Thanks for checking out my video 😊👍
Every time I want to start a project I find Mike Festiva has done it
Haha 😊👍
Nice review. Great video
Thanks man 😊👍
Hi, I have same bandsaw, brand new...after setting up and making first cuts, the band keeps dropping of the saw...do you have any similar situation happen before?
Mike, thanks for making this great video. Like I said in the message on Instagram you and your brother have interesting lives.
Thanks Paul 😊 I appreciate it 👍
