Your channel has been a massive inspiration for me . We are building our 2nd home and building our 2nd home theatre from scratch this time round . Where in the 1st home it was after thought .
I have a Stewart fixed screen and when I moved house (about 1450km) and put the screen back together I had some ripples etc. I rang Stewart in the USA and they said just use a hair dryer over the area on warm so I did that and those ripples disappeared within seconds. All nice and tight once again.
Maximum effort mate, going to be great when done. For a brief moment I was almost inspired to rip up my home cinema and start again. But I came to my senses.. keep it up mate.
Oh wow, big things are coming for the BM theater. I know we talked a bit about it a couple weeks ago, but I don't think I fully appreciated the scale in which you're upgrading. Nice work Tony, I can't wait to see when it's all done. I'd love to hear your setup one day, especially with the wave forming.
Thanks brother - I don't know why I did this now that it's just a huge mess but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel... hopefully it all works out! One day, come here for a visit mate you will love it!
I enjoy watching the video clip about rebuilding your cinema room it's looking really good that you have done. I am looking forward to the next video clip ..
Hey Tony - I've gotta say, I really enjoyed the more casual style of video. I'm also a massive fan of seeing the build while its in progress as it gives me a far more realistic/down-to-earth idea of how these upgrades work and the effort involved. I'm insanely keen for the video on the Mad-VR setup for tone-mapping. If possible I'd also like to hear about the rack setup you've got and how exactly the hardware connects/flows through to your theatre room. I'm vaguely aware of the way it works, but I'd love to hear some detail from yourself. Keep it up mate - loving the latest round of upgrades!
Thanks for watching. I will be doing a whole video on the Mad VR - it's already recorded, however, I don't have any of the b-roll footage yet because the screen isn't suitable to record it - but the talking part with all the information is done. Hopefully soon. Also my friend Leo is going to come help me re-rack both racks so we should see a bit more about that. Definitely more to come :)
Have you found a home for your Lifx lighting? I'd be game to purchase them from you, especially if you have some gu10 bulbs! Can't wait to see the latest iteration of your theatre, Tony!
Heya, yes, I donated them to my good friend Ben who I did a Star Wars room tour of on my channel. Thanks for the support, I will have an update video very soon.
Yes I likely will. I'm still trying to determine which way I go with it, if I have something that I could turn into an actual product, or if I share it. I have put hundreds upon hundreds of hours into the programming code for this, and my detection process is pretty unique so I'm still trying to decide which way to go.
@@BuildMontage Oh, I didn't realize that you were coding the detection process. I've seen motorized masking with roller shades, but yours is unique (and maybe simpler) with the linear actuators. Either way you go, I can't wait to check it out!
I understand what you are going through as I am renovating our home theater as well. Luckily for us, we have awesome wifes that understand us. Looking great Tony!
Tony!!!!!!!!!!!!! Coming along nicely buddy. This is going to make a great series of videos and looking forward to the progress. Also love the auto masking project.
Tony always being the best inspiration ever! Keep doing what you are doing buddy! And well done once again for your upgrades - please do share one day a making of "the waveforming with Trinnov" process / before after in the sound improvement? :-)
Hi Tony. So I'm in Sydney as well and have an elite UHDB 1.3 tab tension, manual pull down & slow retract ( no acoustic transparency). I find it gets ripples at certain temperatures / humidity levels. A/c on at say 20-21% on a cooling cycle, no issues. In winter when I'm on reverse cycle, it gets them. I appreciate a manual screen has its own set of issues, but this has happened from day one. The ripples aren't as aggressive as yours though. Yes it did get a bit better over time fwiw. Yes it's bright and consistent otherwise.
Thanks for the message! This is a woven screen so it is likely a different type of material. My father looked at it as he has extensive experience with textiles and he said it looks like there is too much material at the bottom which is causing the gather. No amount of pulling on the sides or using the tab tension to tighten it will make any difference at all. At this stage, it's unusable and I am just waiting on my contacts there to get back to me, but I can't tollerate any ripples at all - it HAS to be flat and I have seen plenty of screens that rolldown and remain flat. I think it has been sewn with a gather in the fabric as it doesn't make sense that I can't pull the wrinkles away. Maybe I'm dreaming a little here thinking I can do this :(
@@BuildMontageoh no that sucks! I'd love a woven screen as my next step, but I thought maybe I'm a bit close for it at a seated reclined 3.8m, certainly too close for perforated. I was interested in how you go with it though for sure.
I've never seen a Rolling screen that doesn't have ripples. Also I'd make a little bracket or something to have the two rear speakers sit off the wall to remove the slight reflection.
Heya, yes some aspects are sponsored with free products such as the amp, additional subwoofer, lighting and the screen. In regards to room treatment, my room is already fully treated, every wall, ceiling and floor. Behind the acoustic curtains are additional vicoustic panels and the whole back is a mix of absorbers and diffusers. And also, waveforming will take care of the LFE reflections, with the rear subs doing active absorption for those lower frequencies. I will be revealing everything in the longer form video once the project is all finished :)
Awesome video as always, Tony! 2 questions: 1. Will you be dropping a link to your friend’s Starz company in a future video so we can buy their product as well? 2. Did you like the Manzo more than the Barcelonas? I haven’t had a chance to sit in either but love the look of your barcelonas.
Yes, I will link to Starz in the video - 100% and I like the Barcelonas more for "casual" watching as I can sit up and put my legs up under me, but I feel the Monza's are super comfortable for longer sessions.
Cool custom screen masking system. Wouldn't you want the mask to come in from the left and right of the screen to keep a constant vertical height of your image?
In some circumstances yes, however as I am using a 16:9 screen, it's ideal to have constant image width. If I had a scope screen then yes, however, my system that I developed can actually cater to all of those aspect ratios including side masks
Yes I agree, I had ripped out most of my lighting prior to making the video unfortunately - one of the next ones will be the installation of the lighting!
It's just one of those things I've always wanted ever since Youthman did it years ago before I even had a UA-cam channel - and I did have the ability by putting a hinge on my screen, however, because I have the masking system now going in there is no way to do it other than a rolldown screen. Hoping I can get it fixed!
You got quite the mess going on there Tony! Lol Anyway, how does your Valencia dealership work for people in other countries? I was looking at their website last week and saw that they have a slim version of the Tuscany, which might be narrow enough to actually work in my room, so that's something I'm considering for the future.
Hey mate, yes I only am a dealer in Australia, for US sales you can buy through my affiliate link but i don't really push it that hard, I'd be happy to help you if you have questions, just ping me throug hdiscord. The slim tuscany are definitely available though and look the same as the standard ones obviously just slimmer!
Lol,my house looks the same.have my mx20s and rest of the cinema standing allover. Also redoing my cinema to fit the krix speakers and wave forming. Would like you to go into the waveforming speaker positions a bit more please. Why 3 in the front? And the madvr setup please. I started this build because of you you bugger, lol.
Sure thing, I will explain it all hopefully with a dedicated video with Michael from Krix in person :) The three at the front allows for vertical steering, so two absorbers at the back, and three at the front. And glad to hear another happy Krix customer :)
Yes, I think these are my new favourite. I love how they look and to my they are super comfortable. Then again, all of the Valencia range are, it will just depend on what you personally like more. These ones are more modern looking and I think suit my room a little better.
Elite screens think its normal to have p.j screens with all sorts of shit in them , creases , waves , curves & dumbo ears on each side , i will be trying a vividstorm next time i buy one , e.s can get stuffed i wont buy from them again . Thanks for the update on the h.t , ur defo tony the tornado ! Lol
I don't know as I have reviewed their screens before without this issue. If it doesn't work I will have to take it down. Cannot have the ripples on the image.
This is sorta true, however, it's more fueled by my desire which I always had - masking, and the ability to show the speakers... so I invented my own system/code to make it happen!

I wish it was that easy - but it definitely didnt help as it's part of the structure of the material being acoustic transparent.
Maximum effort mate, going to be great when done. For a brief moment I was almost inspired to rip up my home cinema and start again. But I came to my senses.. keep it up mate.

The screen is gonna be epic! Definitely looking forward to seeing your MADVR video!!
The screen is going to be replaced so it should work I hope!! MadVR video will be done very soon!
Would love to see a video on that masking system you’re rigging up.

Yes but these are all wrinkled sadly :(

I have one, no ripples. Had it for years. It has ripples for a few minutes when it goes down but that goes away after hanging for a few minutes.
I definitely have, and I have reviewed screens like this before but never seen wrinkles like this. Hoping they can assist me to fix it.
Will the MadVR PC video talk about "How To" build it? Excellent progress so far!
MadVR not the PC :)
Yes, definitely! It's already recorded, but I don't have the demo footage yet.
What is wave forming?
Trinnov has created a brand new bass management system which i am implementing into my space.
