- MK6 Golf steering wheel swap DIY.
With the new Golf R coming home, I want to get this base golf sold as soon as I can. I absolutely love this steering wheel and part of me wants to install it in the new golf r, but another part of me wants a mk6 wheel instead of a mk7 one. Either way, I can use this, give it to a family member, or make a few bucks selling it.
I'm due for an RSX video so that'll likely be next. I'm hoping to pick up the new golf r by Wednesday or Thursday!

@@FAZEDTom I plan to get one in Q1 or Q2 next year. I want the Golf R because here in Australia we have strict driving laws for our first 5 years and the Golf R is the best all round car there is. Its fast, handles great, economical, roomy. Its just the whole package. And they are finally starting to go down in price. I can now find some for around $17,000AUD which is a bargain for the Golf R because there were only around 600 imported to Australia. So yeah. I will definitely be watching your videos to learn more about the car and how it works.

Hello what do I need to make it work? Will the buttons and light on them work? I got mine from mk7 R and want to instal it in my mk6... only coding or I need something else like modules and to find different jack? Thank you

hey man ,just bought a 2013 golf base thinking about changing the steering wheel since it’s mad ugly ,i’m new to this but your video is quite helping i’m guessing you need to buy a brand new airbag because the old one isn’t compatible right ?
i found an airbag for a mk7 for 250$ and the steering for about 300$ which is reasonable ,but does the mk7 airbag is it compatible with a 2013 ,could it work out ? i know the buttons might now work or the pedal shifters just concerned if the airbag could be fitted even if it does not work ,i’m just new to this sorry if this is annoying

Physically yes. As far as getting the buttons to function, there's some extra work you need to do. From what I've seen it's not that difficult though

Hi I have a mk6 Jetta 2012 UK model. I'm looking to upgrade thr steering wheel to either mk6 or mk7 golf gti model..... do you know if either of these are a straight swap
They'll bolt on and the airbag will plug right in, but as far as steering wheel buttons you may need an adapter

If you ever get a chance you should do a headliner removal tutorial. I just removed mine to prepare it for re-upholstery and all the info on it is not in 1 concise location. Im gethering pics and writing a How to on the mk6 forum. Ill probably post it when i redo the upholstery soon. Anyways cant wait to see the new R!!! Hype
Hey man, good idea, I'd love to make a video on that. I haven't done a headliner job yet because I haven't had a car that needed one haha. but I plan to get a beat up mk4 at some point and those usually need a headliner 🤣 Thanks man, I'm stoked but insanely nervous about my parents' reaction 😆 I have to get my own place soon.

It's dead easy to do. The hardest parts are b pillars, lining up the seat belt hight adjustment and the clips that hold the headlining in at the front under the sun visors. I swapped my white headlining and all pillars for a full black gti trim

Do you disconnect the battery first then turn the car ignition on?
for a car with a key ignition yes. For push to start you need to turn ignition on then remove battery.
To So how do I move the steering wheel if my car is push button start? Thank you so much if you can get back to me

You turn ignition on to unlock the wheel then disconnect battery while ignition is still on

Most likely. I doubt they'd make a steering wheel or airbag change between mk7 and mk7.5. You'll just need to get the complete steering wheel with airbag and buttons.

@@FAZEDTom Honestly, no idea...haha. I have thought about getting a custom steering wheel with blue stitching and everything, but since that hasn't happened, I have not looked into how to replace one with Kessy. Maybe you will have a DIY of that soon. ;)

Sorry for the late reply. Physically yes but the buttons require some work to get them functioning
