I love watching her as Edith Bunker . Loved this interview. Shows that she was is a very beautiful and articulate person. Rest in Peace Jean. Much love and Aloha.
I think I watched every one of Arsenio's shows, he was a must watch for me, and I always loved the sensitivity and respect that he had for people, and he always had great people on. Even though I had to get up early for work, I made sure I watched. I don't do that anymore, LOL!
i haven´t seen Arsenio since i was a little girl, seeing this again, wow he is so gracious and attentive, and really gives Jean the time and space to speak...he really genuinely listens, he was a really great host
So glad we have these lovely shows with beautiful people like Jean. I am sure I must have seen this when it first came on, I watched every Arsinio show, and loved him too. When I watched Jean on TV when I was a child, I thought of her as both funny and wise. Even as a child, I got her character!
this year 2018 five years since the tragic passing of Jean Stapleton , what immense talent. Baghdad Café the movie and TV series were as good as each other , saw both in the UK first of many times , the TV show was shown in the UK on Channel 4 either Tuesdays or Thursday nights cannot remember watch every week , excellent casting
She makes sense. AITF treated the audience like they were smart and didn't have to have everything explained to them. Gave the audience some credit for having a brain.
I loved Arsenio Hall. I thought he was funny, classy type of entertainer/interviewer and so glad I stumbled upon him and Jean Stapleton who I also love dearly. Wish he would come back.
I think Arsenio Hall was wonderful as a talk show host. So respectful of, not only his guest, but of his audience. He is interested in what his guest is saying, and you can see how intently he is listening, and I love how he makes eye contact with his guest, instead of looking into the camera. He doesn’t interrupt or try to make jokes. Wish they would have kept him on at night.
I Miss the Arsenio Hall Show. It was, in my opinion, so much better then most of the talk shows of the 90's. Arsenio was much more personal with his guest like he was having conversations in his own Livingroom which I liked. Seeing Jean here is so Awesome! What an Amazing Lady! She is one of my favorites due to "Edith". Me and my Nanny would watch the show every week together since I was a toddler. Edith was so much like my Nanny that when I watch re-runs now it brings me back to such Great Memories! RIP Jean! One day I hope to see you on the Other Side hanging with Caroll O'Connor. 🤗🤗
What I liked about Arsinio Hall was he would joke it up whenever a rapper musician or rapper comedian were a guest but then when he had someone not from that sub culture was a guest he treated them with respect and took it seriously.
She had a charisma about her and she was quite attractive . She played a wonderful part as Edith , and the talent it took to play her is obvious when we see her real life persona .
She is amazing but I feel after watching some of her interviews, she wants to move on from AITF. Just doesn't want to discuss it much or do the voice of Edith anymore...I dont know, she was great as Edith that's how I remember her.
Married with children was okay, BUT it wouldn't have been a hit television comedy series if it weren't for the best hit groundbreaking tv sitcom, "All in the Family" (1971 -1979). All in the Family was not only one of the most successful sitcoms in history, it was also one of the most important and influential series ever to air, for it ushered in a new era in American television characterized by programs that did not shy away from addressing controversial or socially relevant subject matters.
You have to give her alot of credit for playing Edith all those years and having to put up with Archie even though it was an act! I saw alot of the show and I loved her character the most. I was a momas boy😀
Yes, she and Carroll O’Connor were longtime dear friends. It must have been a hoot to see them go into character on that show, knowing that they were not like that at all in real life. It’s always amusing to see clips of Jean like this where she’s not in character as Edith, but the “Edith voice” was borrowed from an early character she’d portrayed on Broadway.
I have to agree. Edith is so sweet and lovable. Jean comes across a little snobby to me. And I know it's not just on here, but in other interviews as well. I dont even know if snobby is the right word just something off about Jean..definitely not a girl like Edith
Jean Stapleton reminds me of Meghan Mullally. Both are such crazy good actors. Edith and Karen are completely and totally opposite of their alter ego's. Amazing!
She had that “coolness” about her..I had never watched an interview with her..only knew her from acting as Edith Bunker…very few times ever saw her out of her Edith character…
"Bagdad Cafe". What an unfortunate choice to name your new, high profile show on the eve of the anti-Saddam, anti-Iraq God Bless America patriotism of 1990-91 Gulf War. The show never had a chance aftyer Saddam invaded Kuwait.
When does the FUN part begin? She's so darned serious. She promotes her new series (but shares nothing interesting), brags about Broadway and stays entirely away from anything Edith--- the whole reason anyone is interested in her on UA-cam. Even the Simpsons voice actors will break into character for a laugh. But not Jean; she said in another interview she wouldn't do Edith unless she was being paid..... all the while being paid for the interview.
She was such a classy lady. Sadly, they don't make them like her anymore. R.I.P.
Jean was an amazing woman, actress, and legend in her own right. R.I.P. Jean
Arsenio expressing my own level of gushing fanboy awe over the inimitable comedic legend, Jean Stapleton. 😍👍
Very classy and gracious, that's Jean Stapleton.
I love watching her as Edith Bunker . Loved this interview. Shows that she was is a very beautiful and articulate person. Rest in Peace Jean. Much love and Aloha.
Arsenio was a great talk show host, he always got the best people, asked great questions and was a great listener
I think I watched every one of Arsenio's shows, he was a must watch for me, and I always loved the sensitivity and respect that he had for people, and he always had great people on. Even though I had to get up early for work, I made sure I watched. I don't do that anymore, LOL!

She was such a wonderful spirit.
She was so jazzy and classy. God bless her and RIP 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Hall needs a comeback. He was great. And jean was beautiful
Jean was Americas mom in the 70’s and 80’s. I loved her directness and honesty.
She was my grandmother, and Archie my grandpa, though all 3 of my grandfathers were NOTHING like Archie, none had a racist bone in their body.
At least Arsenio let her talk. Always liked him.😊😊😊😊
Yeah, Joan Rivers ALWAYS interrupted her guests
Talk show hosts these days are not like Arsenio!
What an absolutely incredible actor.
So glad we have these lovely shows with beautiful people like Jean. I am sure I must have seen this when it first came on, I watched every Arsinio show, and loved him too. When I watched Jean on TV when I was a child, I thought of her as both funny and wise. Even as a child, I got her character!
all in the family and mash the two biggest ground breaking series of their time.
Love you Ms Stapleton R.I.p
Jean Stapleton was the antithesis of a "dingbat." A testament to her versatility as an actress.
very well stated!
you dont believe this brilliant woman played the dingbat
The good old days. I so missed them. Makes me cry.
She was one of the finest actor ever
Arsenio is such a sweetheart.

So many talk show hosts love to hear themselves talk and doesn't let the guest speak. Arsenio is a pro.

👏👏👏👏👏👏👍
The greatest actress ever.
Agreed.
Absolutely ❤️ Jean Stapleton ❤
Wish Arsenio ran as long as Letterman ,he had good guest and he was a good host .
Love ❤️ Jean great funny lady on all n the family luv her carater

Lord I love this lady..r.i.p.
Love you Archie!
❤ I always liked her she reminded me of my grandmother
God, was she something! Diva!
I would have love to talk to her about knowing shorthand. It's not used anymore and I still remember how to write it all.
Gregg and Pitman.
That woman was fantastic person and actress
She is amazing but I feel after watching some of her interviews, she wants to move on from AITF. Just doesn't want to discuss it much or do the voice of Edith anymore...I dont know, she was great as Edith that's how I remember her.
Great actress
What a huge talent!
Classy talented woman!
She has always reminded me of my dear grandmother.
"Married With Children" was ground breaking
Indeed. It made FOX into the network it is now.

R I P Jean Stapleton
When Arsenio said that fox as a network was breaking a lot of ground................whooooooooo.......he didn't have ANY idea.
She was an absolute treasure. RIP
This is the most amazing lady.
You have to give her alot of credit for playing Edith all those years and having to put up with Archie even though it was an act! I saw alot of the show and I loved her character the most. I was a momas boy😀

@@buddrossi6451 thanks a lot for your text. Always glad when Archie lost and Edith shined. Always a treat to see any of the off the set info.
Aunt Mary . Great movie !
Ms. Stapleton was a true actress. She was nothing like Edith and made her so believable.
Arsenio is a classy guy, unlike other hosts.
Jean was actually the opposite of Edith Bunker even in tone.
Loved her as Nana Silverberg on Murphy Brown.
I saw the movie Bagdad Cafe and it was superb but I never saw the TV version but I'm sure it was good too beacuase Whoopie and Jean are great.
I forgot about Bagdad Cafe!
I love her! I have to say I love Edith much better then Jean,, her acting is so good~
I have to agree. Edith is so sweet and lovable. Jean comes across a little snobby to me. And I know it's not just on here, but in other interviews as well. I dont even know if snobby is the right word just something off about Jean..definitely not a girl like Edith
I agree. I love Edith's character so sweet and naive.
What a moronic statement
Love you Archie
Jean was Barbra's mother in Funny Girl and also in the movie The Bells Are Ringing with Judy Holliday
Great interview
Jean Stapleton reminds me of Meghan Mullally. Both are such crazy good actors. Edith and Karen are completely and totally opposite of their alter ego's. Amazing!
Her laugh is Edith laugh. It's so cute!
Whoopi didn't hold up to Jean's complement
YOU GOT THAT RIGHT!!!!!
RIP Jean.
i can't believe he knows what show she came out of.
sküll düggery - why is that? I'm sure I already know the answer.
I do miss Arsenio. He was a great personality. Chris Rock (UGH) not in the same arena.
ah...those were the days
She played character roles; example Dennis the Menance, etc...
She would never do Edith for anybody on whatever show she appeared on. Never understood that 🤔🤔🤔
Arsenio had the style!
The original line was Gee Our Ole LaSalle Ran Great
Wonder what Jean would say now about Whoopi bc she is nothing like how Jean described her.
Are we talkin about the same Whoopi Goldberg?
Yes, but she was much better before The View.
Archie would have a frikin major meltdown seeing Edith kissing a black man!!!!!
I can't believe she botched the opening song lyrics she said it was "boy our old LaSalle ran great", it was gee our old LaSalle ran great
That was back in the 70’sand Arsenio talk show was in the 90’s
THANK YOU ARSENIO!!!
Arrrrchie!
If Jean could see whoopee now she would change her mind
wonder how long ago this video
1990
She had that “coolness” about her..I had never watched an interview with her..only knew her from acting as Edith Bunker…very few times ever saw her out of her Edith character…
It’s apparent why now
If I was god, death would have never been invented
Jean Stapleton wouldn't talk the same today after whoppi goldbergs despicable behavior on the view
"Bagdad Cafe". What an unfortunate choice to name your new, high profile show on the eve of the anti-Saddam, anti-Iraq God Bless America patriotism of 1990-91 Gulf War. The show never had a chance aftyer Saddam invaded Kuwait.
What year
1990
Has fun with?
Look at Jean Stapleton's teeth they're messed up
Her and arsenio hall put the audience to sleep... Too funny !! 🤣🤧😄

This interview was not made for UA-cam!!
It hadn't been invented yet!!😂
🤮
Love you Archie
