what a difference with the actors back then and today. Today all we see is reality TV crap. The talent in tv entertainment has gone down. May she rest in peace.
I can agree with you, totally on this. Character actors put so much, more heart into their acting, to make up for not being mainstream. Of course peoples, not in tune (understanding), with TV/movies, haven't any concept of this, and that's why they are likely to chose movie actors first, and not even consider TV actors.
What a Lady! RIP Jean Stapleton,....lol, what difference in charachters from this housecleaning lady to Edith Bunker, but then that's great acting for ya! Thumbs up and thanks for sharin' Gregory! :)
the actor who portrayed George was so good and so beloved by his fellow actors. Very sad he passed away during the show and was replaced by Gail Gordon, who later became Mr. Mooney on The Lucy Show.
Just imagine Edith being like Mrs Davis, she'd have put Archie in his place real quick.I could just see her telling him to get out of here and take a nap.
That’s funny, omg she was an ass here too, it’s also funny how she just place herself in charge telling him what she was going to do and not going to do!!!!!! Lol.......
I’m only 25 but when I was a kid my mom and I would sit in the school parking lot after dropping my brother off at school because I always had about a hour before my school started and we would always watch all in the family on the car DVD players! I don’t know why but I always loved old shows. Sandford and son, Alf, and all in the family were my favorites.
I like the interview where she discusses Edith Bunker's death on the "Archive of American Television." That's when I saw what a serious actress (before they called the ladies actors) she was. I had only seen her in the Bunker role, throughout my childhood and then forever in syndication and she played her role so well, I thought she must have been somewhat of an airhead in real life. It's good to see her here playing the bossy housekeeper. What a fine actress she was. She gave 100% and she did so convincingly. God rest her soul.
Saw this episode on prime video last night , it took me a while to figure out it might be jean Stapleton , but I didn't think at first she was that tall and I also thought her face was more round , until I found this again on UA-cam the next day and saw the heading.
I remember having our milk delivered into a gray metal box on our stoop. We also paid a flat $10 monthly fee for local telephone calls and extra for long distance which was a few towns over.
Jean Stapleton was such a talented & gifted actor. "Celebrrities" have absolutely no acting talent, or any talent at all, except with having a smart ass tongue! All anyone needs to do to "act" now a days is shake their "sexy" can and use swear word & vulgarity. And society wonders why the young people are growing up to be mouthy brats!
She did lots of other characters, but of course she became most famous for Edith. Jean did a lot of work on Broadway, and for a bit of trivia she appeared in the original Funny Girl show with Barbra Streisand.
By her starchy characterization here (including her aspirated upper Puritan New England accent), had Jean Stapleton not been just age 16 in 1939, she'd have made an excellent alternative "Miss Gulch" and "Witch of the West" in the film Wizard of Oz.
@@shundakm Me too. Perhaps it was just Mr. and Mrs. Wilson were just fairly short, in comparison. Archie Bunker was a little taller? I don't know, just a theory.

@Summer Rose Yes, you are observant! Reality TV is for the brain dead'!!
@@rogerrendzak8055 There's no acting or actors involved with unscripted (reality) television.
Great episode ......just love Jean Stapleton .....I have such a huge respect for her and her talent .....she is truly missed .....
What a talented character actress she was. I remember an episode of Scarecrow and Mrs King she was in. She played a spy and was brilliant.
Great to see Jean Stapleton in a role other than as Edith Bunker!
True Julie though Edith was a great character that she played so brilliantly...miss her!
Check Out her guest appearances on Scarecrow & Mrs. King she played a spy definitely a major difference from Edith.
I think she did this episode at the same time she did the movie"Bells Are Ringing."(1960).
Yeah quite the other extreme from edith
Simply wonderful acting. RIP Jean Stapleton.
I think character actors are more interesting than movie stars any day

dick miller and elisha cook jr were excellent too
just enough I truly, truly SECOND that notion; in my humble opinion, THEY are the big stars.
May God go with you.
I thought all actors played characters.
Jean Stapleton portraying a Maude-like character here. Very funny.
Sort of a cross between Maude and Hazel. LOL
She did a great job. 😊
@@mthivier True!!!
I think I liked her more as Edith!
I half expected her to tell Mr. Wilson to "stifle!"
Jean Stapleton's character as the Housekeeper is a complete 180 from her character Edith in All in the Family.
What a Lady! RIP Jean Stapleton,....lol, what difference in charachters from this housecleaning lady to Edith Bunker, but then that's great acting for ya! Thumbs up and thanks for sharin' Gregory! :)
It’s interesting seeing Jean Stapleton at a younger age.
Believe it or not; everyone was once young.
the actor who portrayed George was so good and so beloved by his fellow actors. Very sad he passed away during the show and was replaced by Gail Gordon, who later became Mr. Mooney on The Lucy Show.
George Wilson was played by Joseph Kearns, who also appeared from time to time on a Lucille Ball show - "I Love Lucy."
HELLOOOOOOOO , MR. WILSON!! He was the best of all of them!!
Just imagine Edith being like Mrs Davis, she'd have put Archie in his place real quick.I could just see her telling him to get out of here and take a nap.
She would have killed Archie.
Jean Stapleton was one piece of work!
And then there's Maude...
If Edith was like Mrs. Davis, Archie would never have married her!
Stifle yourself???
Wow, Dennis and the Dingbat, what a lively pair!
Cheryl Keil Only Mrs Davis was no ding bat.
That’s funny, omg she was an ass here too, it’s also funny how she just place herself in charge telling him what she was going to do and not going to do!!!!!! Lol.......
LaShunda McGahee My thoughts exactly! 😂🤣😂
THAT'S EDITH BUNKER? WHAT A MAGNIFICENT ACTRESS SHE WAS.
What extraordinarily Talented actress Jean Stapleton is

Great show could watch it over many times never gets old!
Can see that after All in the Family, from 1983 to 1998 (or so), she was perfectly cast theatrically to play Eleanor Roosevelt.
MARVEKOUS! Just can't find the original full episode. WOW! VERy rare and unique.
I'm glad to see Jean Stapleton in other roles too she was a great actress too
Geez...she's so young here...RIP beautiful lady!
I like to see Archie Bunker married to this version of Edith!
Thanks so much for this!

I think the best actors and actresses play characters who are nothing like them in real life
@@SenhorBundy I completely agree.

I'm laughing so hard this was funny!
I wish this was the whole episode...
Loved the show..
This was shown posthumously, about a month after Mr. Kearns passed away.
Sadly Kearns was already gone when this aired
What a great actor. Jean was mean!
Reason246
- Archie would have been a different man with her at the helm...lol
I would never have recognized her if her name wasn't in the title.
I remember having our milk delivered into a gray metal box on our stoop. We also paid a flat $10 monthly fee for local telephone calls and extra for long distance which was a few towns over.
THAY WAS FUNNY!!! 😂😂😂😂
That's just what I need in my life...a Flora Davis! Not only is she a paragon of a housekeeper, but she will manage the husband, too!
She Sounds Like Edith In The First Season On All In The Family!
Joseph Kearns has been gone 60 years. GREAT SCOTT!
Was neat, that moment when I realized it was her!
"Oh, that Dennis. He really is a menace. Such a rotten kid. I love him!" -- Awchie

Love this vid nice to see Edith before she was famous.
She was a well known actor before Edith.
I reeeeally like that chair he sits on for the interview.
Best TV show ever

I though the same thing by the way she was dressed
Thank you but plz show full video
The dingbat vs good old Mr. Wilson is comedy gold.
She reminds me of Edith going through the change!
She did have a bit of Edith bunker in there didn't she.😅
One of the funniest episodes ever
WOW!!! I don't remember this one at all! Dingbat, on 'Dennis', 'cod liver?', eeuuh, maybe that's what killed Joseph Kearns! BTW, he was a good actor!
now we know she had a career before she married Archie...
WOW what a trip!!😁
0:38 Jean is from New York but the way she says hard to please has a New England accent. Maybe it was the character she played. Just sayin.
Well, she always said: "Oh, Awchie".
Oh happy days!!!😂
Does Jean remind anyone else of Miss Gulch in this role? YIKES!
jamieleightee, I'll get you, my pretty. And your little dog, too!
“Want me to get ya beer George............let me get ya beer!”
Her Edith character manifested itself at the end of this video when she ran out of the door lol
She was a great lady
the RANGE of this woman is amazing! The way she worked with Whoopi Goldberg is also great!
Jean seems to have recreated this somewhat for Edith's menopause episode.
Cute prank. I love that one.
She somehow seemed taller than "Edith".
Carla J i was thinking the exact samething
It’s the filming angle used back then
@@shundakm Me too. Perhaps it was just Mr. and Mrs. Wilson were just fairly short, in comparison.
Archie Bunker was a little taller? I don't know, just a theory.
You should have put in the video where Mr. Wilson is smoking his cigar and puts the ashes on the rug and Mrs. Davis puts it out and gets him mad.
That housekeeper role would have been perfect for Margaret Hamilton as well.
Good observation...l agree with you.
Also saw on episode of car54
Miss Davis, stifle yourself, and get me a beer.
If you saw the whole story, it's not so bad.
Wow 😅
Gene Stapleton coming off like Mary Wickes. 1/2019
Edith came out a few times.
Did she say Mr. Wilson's lunch was a cod liver????
PeeboTyson Cow liver.
Wow. Had no idea.
Edith wow that’s great
Go Number Ones.
Go good things and fun and Smiles.
And go No e areas and nice groups.
Whoaaa
Similar to the housekeeper played by Fran Ryan in The Beverly Hillbillies.
Made me think of when Ralph & Alice hire a maid on the Honeymooners.
Where’s Archie ? And the meat head
Ohhhh ahhhhchieeeee.
This looks like a Desilu production...?
Joe Kearns is simply the best!
Edith Bunker! Stifle yourself Edith.
Not the nutty Edith I remember. Well done, George!
Jean reworking that East coast accent lol
i met her lol
Perfect remedy for the matter.
She looks so much larger as this character..
This episode aired after Joe Kearns passed away
u said shes really gone? that was good by too he lol
archie bunkers wife edith so funny bossing mr wilson around
The other side of Edith.
She's "hard to please" yet still remained married to Archie for 30+ years....
Long before she married Archie Bunker!
I can see and hear just a sliver of Edith Bunker
Archiiieeee
Alanda Dalyrimple-Lala Auwchie....youse gotta put more Brooklyn in there youse. Hehehe
I hate to admit this but in a way she does! But Jean was a little more attractive
Maybe George Wilson should have hired Edith Bunker, she's easier to get along with.
Just don't understand why people can't just fire someone when they have too.
Miss Gulch.
Jean Stapleton sounded like Maude.
