How To: Digital Key Plus | 4K

In this video, we go over how to get the digital key on your iPhone. Since the digital key plus uses ultra wideband (UWB) technology, your phone acts just like a key fob. There is no need to put the phone in the tray and the car can recognize your phone as a key for comfort access 2.0. This means the car will unlock as you approach and lock as you walk away. You'll have to set this up in iDrive 8.
The digital key card in your Apple Wallet acts like a key fob. You can tap a button in your Apple Wallet to lock/unlock, climate control on/off, pop the trunk, etc.

Is this available on the i7 as well as the i4 yet, or a more precise question, which models has this features? Was checking apples list on supporting Carplay which also mention which models that’s supporting car key but not in detail of the “passive entry function” (or with Operation System 8 and Comfort Access (SA 322)) for BMW. And I assume you can use this feature with an Apple Watch 6 and sooner which is UWB compatible?

The iX (obviously), the X7, and the i7/7 series have it. I'm not sure about the Apple Watch ability though.

I have it set up on my brand-new X7, but only sometimes will it recognize the key when I walk up to the car (I.e., turn on the lights, display the welcome mat). Most times, I have to grab the door handle to “wake up” the car, and I’m not sure why. Maybe I’ve done something wrong?

Odd. Make sure you have the lock/unlock on approach checked in the doors/windows (?) app in the iDrive
