I bought the Hogue Grip for my 43 and received it today. I put the grip in boiling hot water for 3 minutes. I put just a tad bit of olive oil on a paper towel and rubbed the grips. I then rubbed a little olive oil inside the Hogue grip when I took it out of the hot water. I must say it only took me about 1 minute to install the grip with no issues. Mr. Magill definitely struggled putting it on the hard way. It's much easier if you do it my way. Good luck!
I just got a new glock after 20+ years and I remember putting my grip in hot water too to make the rubber more manipulating but I see a lot of videos not mentioning like you. Good stuff
@@bigdogkellz5120 I doubt it, I use olive oil on my hydro flask where the rubber handle is. It tends to squeak when it’s dry and don’t want to use any other oil on my hydro flask so I use olive oil. The lid is plastic and the handle is rubber and haven’t noticed any issues
I am impressed as hell - you may be one of the only people who've installed one of those without any aids at all! I don't know when they got the idea for the new way that uses cut strips from the package and window cleaner, but they're putting the instruction supplement in the package now.
I like how people buy a pistol because it thin, then put extra grips on then making them not thin..... morons, but a bigger gun if that's what you want.
Lenny Hot water and Windex used as a lubricant to put it on makes install 1000% easier!!! And then the windex evaporates and leaves a little bit of sticky residue inside the grip for less movement!! I’ve installed dozens this way and I helped a ton
There’s a trick we mountain bikers use to put tight grips on. Spray a bit of aqua net hair spray in the grip, it slides on easy but when the alcohol dries it doesn’t move at all and is impossible to get off.
I bought a purple one for the wife for Christmas, so I've got a few days to wait before putting it on but watching you do it gives me hope. If the veins in my arms look as good as yours do when I'm done it'll have been worth it!
Lenny, got one for my 42. Took Two men and a boy to get it on. But totally worth the effort. Hot Water did help. The instructions I have also recommend cutting off two one inch strips of plastic off the Hogue Handall Grips package and use them as make shift shoe horn. That worked pretty well to stretch the grip on. I have a much better purchase on the 42 now.
I just did this easily on my 43 by dunking the grip in hot water straight from the kettle and then stretching it over my grip using a the handle of a tablespoon from my dining set to work as a lever while pushing. Piece of cake!
Would love to see the outtakes from this video and all the cussing and swearing that went on. I know I've installed a few. But they are well worth it in the end.
I literally installed this while sitting on my couch without using any sort of glass cleaner or soap nor did I use any cut outs from the packaging just dunked the hogue grip in hot water for a few minutes and got to work it’s a little tough first getting it on over the mag well but it’s actually easy to work upwards.
Put a hogue on my 17 g3 in less than 5 min!! Was honestly surprised how easy it ended up being considering all the videos I’ve seen on YT!!! Awesome grip!! 😎👍
I just put one of these on my Shield and if you READ the instructions it says to cut strips of plastic from the packaging and fold them in half. Insert the strips into front and back of the grip and then start the install. The strips work as a shoehorn and allows the grip to slide a lot easier. It was still a bit of a struggle but nothing like what he shows. The instructions also say to use glass cleaner to allow some extra slippage. My Shield fits in my hand so much better now. I'm glad I tried this product first before I spent the money to have it re stippled.
Just installed mine and I can assure you it was a royal pain. Good news is that it won’t be coming off. It definitely makes it easier to put it in hot, hot water for about 10 min or so. Makes it a lot more pliable.
@@joeytomato Because I wanted a better grin on the receiver and still maintain a single stack concealable feature. To each his own it works great for my needs.
Lenny, great video, seeing your huge arms and hands struggle with this little piece of rubber is sheer entertainment in itself. It is a bear to get on, I have three of them on my Glocks. Keep up the good work.
Lenny, I've installed several of these grips over the years. I place them in a cup of water and give them four minutes in the microwave (The water comes to a nice boil, but does not deform the grip in any way.). Then I spray the grip area of the gun with Windex. Then place the "Front" of the grip on the gun and press the cover onto the gun. It's a much easier process than it looked in the video. I have one on my 43X, 19 and 42.
Lenny Magill, you are outstanding! I just discovered your channel. What an excellent presentation; installation was difficult until I saw your method. Smart guy! Can't wait to meet you one day. Thanks!
Lenny, I discovered a super easy way to get these grips on. Boil a pan of water. With the water boiling, once you get the grip started hold the pistol grip and Hogue grip over the steam. Let the steam moisten the outside of the pistol grip and the inside of the Hogue grip. Slide the Hogue grip up. It's still tight but mine went on much much easier than what we see here. Hope this helps everybody.
Guys, trust me on this one. Just installed on my bodyguard. Heat up the Hogue sleeve with a hair blower on high heat for a minute or two. Put hand sanitizer on the gun's grip and inside the Hogue sleeve. Slip on the back first, then pull the front on the grip. Use a microfiber rag and pull it/push it on all the way. Literally took me a minute. The key is heating it up and using hand sanitizer. The sanitizer is much slicker than Windex and will evaporate completely. Feels great on the gun. Can't wait to go shooting.
Get it started then take 1 drop of oil(shooters lube) wipe a thin layer with your finger around top of the hogue grip and it makes it alot easier, has worked on several! Without heating them up or anything and they stay firmly put once in place.
LOL 😂 Lenny you were really struggling to get that grip on. You forgot a couple steps that make that whole process much easier. After warming the grips in hot water, it helps to manually stretch out the grip with your hands first. Then apply Windex as a lubricant on to the rubber grip sleeve and also the grip frame to make it slide on easier. Aside from the time my grip spent in the hot water (10 mins) the installation of my grip only took about 1 minute. It came out great. Good job with the videos. Keep them coming.
Does anyone have any long term results on these? I’m concerned with the paint of the rubber wearing off onto the frame of the gun over time. Especially if I’m not getting a black grip. Does that ever happen?
They're not painted or dyed. Different chemicals make the silicone different colors. I have 3 on my small guns, let me check them.... Yup. Purple LCP grip has been on for ten years, looks brand new. Glock 42 and 43 also look great in OD and black. Never had any issues. Some people have theirs break or snap, some of them are tougher than others. So worth it if you're interested in them, they make a big difference on small guns. I've had to take them off my larger frame guns like my Canol TP9 and Glock 19, I have large enough hands to palm a basketball but they just felt too big. Check em out, best ten bucks ever. Talon grips wear and peel, pachmeyr snap and fade, the hogue grips are tough for years and years. Unless you get one that breaks on install, those are probably bad batches. Just buy through Amazon for return.
This little hogue grip made all the difference for me on my 43. We’ll worth the price! Installation tip: cut a piece of plastic from the package to use as a shim along the backside like a shoehorn
Maybe add just a dot of dish soap, preferably Dawn. Just a thin layer with warm water. Like putting hand grips on a bicycle. It will eventually dry and stay fit.
I left the grip soak in hot water for about 10 minutes and used rubbing alcohol in the inside and on the pistol handle, this will make the job much easier than using Windex. With a small syringe or eye dropper, keep adding alcohol in between the rubber grip and the pistol handle while pushing it on and make sure to use a leather glove or a small towel for a better grip so your hand won't slide down. I use the same method to replace bike handle grips👍
I put one on my G-20 that was made to fit a G-17. A lot of work, but well worth the effort. I love these things and now have them on all of my Glocks. It's hard to get on, though, and if you're ANTIFA, you may not be able to do it. I would recommend finding a Proud Boy to install it for you.
I’d hate to live some place where states where that small. You’d have to just simply be careful in Texas. Just a thought, if you have to have your MAGA and ammo that far away, maybe it’s time to find some other form of defense.
Had one of these on my Gen 2 G19 for 20 years. Didn’t take it off because the thing is so hard to put back on. I did take it off for a Talon grip. Alas, putting the Hogue back on. For me, it’s the Hogue.
I got a Hogue grip for a different gun. I did not heat it before installation. The key for me was to start it evenly in the beginning and then work it up the grip slowly and evenly.
I have a trick...spray some windex on your gun handle, once hot the grip slips on easy, even gives you some time to adjust the grip. Make sure the grip is hot.
Great job Lenny, and without any cussing. Lol. But after watching you I think the Talon grip may be a better option. But I do like and have the Hogue rubber grip on my S&W Shield .45
Got a grip to help beef up the gun for my larger hands, but I'm now debating on removing them and dealing with the narrow feel of the gun because I want to appendix carry and the rubber texture catches the clothes...
I didn't heat mine, I sprayed Windex on the grip and inside of the hogue grip and I struggled a little bit but not this bad. I'm glad I didn't read the instructions
I was able to easily install it by smearing a light coat of olive oil onto the front and back of the sleeve. It's not coming off! Thanks for the video.
Biggest mistake is not applying any sort of lubricant. I did everything Lenny did except when I took it out of the water, I stretched it before going on the gun and then sprayed a generous amount of window cleaner on both the grip and the handle of the gun, and with a little bit of elbow grease and the proper technique that Lenny did, it went on like a glove!
I put mine on using long flat head screw driver to help get leverage under the grip while sliding it onto the handle. Not an easy install by any means but if you use a flat head just to stretch it from underneath it goes on easier. Do be careful not to rip it though. use the pole of the screw driver not the end of the screw driver. Good luck lol I love it though. I have 1 on my glock 19
That glove had been repeatedly cooled and warmed during its time as evidence and most intelligent people understand that even though O.J was very likely innocent, the "if it doesn't fit, you must acquit" line from O.J's lawyer was made from the assumption that no matter what, the glove would not fit.
SpOnGeBoB not likely innocent considering even the jury said there would have been a conviction if evidence was handled properly. There was also a test done on isotoners soaked in pigs blood and dried. The same gloves that fit before weren’t even close. He was acquitted based on racism accusations and the handling of evidence by detectives, not by being innocent...
I found the best and fastest way to do this is to follow the plastic slip idea, but instead of in the front and back, you would make four plastic slips for the front back and side to side you’re going to make a cross over the grip and push it in so that way you get a cross fit inside of the Hoag grip then you start with the small side first then before you know it it’s on I did this with no Windex in two minutes
Also! I didn’t use anything to heat up my grip I used a butter knife to kind of slide it on wasn’t too hard for me and it fits like the man said. A glove.
Just wanted to say how proud of myself I am for putting this on my girlfriends 43 while watching this video with no hot water lubricant or anything. I Like my talon grips though.
What do you prefer? I have talon grips on my 43x right now and it fits really nicely in my hand, I wanna get the hogue grip because it's a 1 time buy but I feel like it will almost make it to bulky for me
I want this for my 43 but feel like at this point I should’ve just bought the 26. I like the 43 but lose my grip while shooting it. Maybe the talon. Crap I don’t know which way to go.
Lenny...did you just scan the instructions brother lol they day to use the plastic it comes in to make little shoehorn shaped wedges to help guide it on
I just stretched it with my hands didnt take more thsn 3 minutes....watching you struggle with it made me dread the process but i didnt even heat it up i just stretched ot over and slid it on
Hey, I just replied to your other question and saw this post. Yes, the Hogue grips can be taken off and on but do it carefully because the thinner areas can split and tear.
Instead pressing down with all my might, I just leveraged it on after using hot water with a spoon handle and it slipped right on hot water made it a ton easier.
+1 as it took longer to prep the grip. I also took a tip form Frogman405 and squeezed the grip like a sponge for a few minutes and had it installed in about a minute.
Oddly enough, once I got it over the bottom of the mag well, I had very little difficulty. Now I did have the rubber Talon grips on it so maybe that made it easier. Also, they move around a bit on the G42. This makes sense since the grip is more narrow than the G43. Just one guys experience.
Gun Monkey I have both the Hogue grip and Talon grips. In your opinion, which kind of grip was better? I want to get the trigger guard undercut in the near future so I’m thinking of installing the Hogue grips because it’s something I can remove and reuse. Whereas, the Talon Grips I am not so sure that they would go back on again after being taken off.
I’m not sure if you have the G42 or G43, but my advice would probably be the same. I preferred the Hogue grip over the soft Talon grips because it added more width and it it really helped me to get a firm hold on the grip. Also, I found it easier to draw. However, if you are more interested in keeping it slim, then go with the Talon grips. I have the grainy Talon grips on my G26 and G19 and I really like those. As far as them being reusable, I can’t speak to that. Hope this helps.
It’s actually much easier to install if you follow the directions on the back of the pack and use the plastic strip on the back when installing it. Stretch it first as much as you can over the handle when you get it out of boiling water.
I bought the Hogue Grip for my 43 and received it today. I put the grip in boiling hot water for 3 minutes. I put just a tad bit of olive oil on a paper towel and rubbed the grips.

I was thinking about getting one. But I felt bad for what the sights where going thru during the process.
Take your slide off
Just wanted to say how proud of myself I am for putting this on my girlfriends 43 while watching this video with no hot water lubricant or anything. I Like my talon grips though.
What do you prefer? I have talon grips on my 43x right now and it fits really nicely in my hand, I wanna get the hogue grip because it's a 1 time buy but I feel like it will almost make it to bulky for me
what if I want to change the color how hard is it to take off?
Razor blade
B lol
I want this for my 43 but feel like at this point I should’ve just bought the 26. I like the 43 but lose my grip while shooting it. Maybe the talon. Crap I don’t know which way to go.
the hotwater and pre-stretching worked really well....thanks for the tip! :)
Can anyone tell me what color green this is ??? OD green or battlefield green
Hello again everybody, and welcome to Casey's Top 40. I'm Casey Kasem, and he's all set to countdown the 40 biggest hits on the Pop chart.
Hairspray on the grip works.
Gives lubrication when wet, dries sticky. Will NEVER come off.
Ralph Uriarte what do you do when you want it off ?
Lenny...did you just scan the instructions brother lol they day to use the plastic it comes in to make little shoehorn shaped wedges to help guide it on
Got mine on using a little bit of oil....super easy that way
Does the rubber catch your shirt when concealed? Seems like it would make the gun print more easily.
I just stretched it with my hands didnt take more thsn 3 minutes....watching you struggle with it made me dread the process but i didnt even heat it up i just stretched ot over and slid it on
I used a small amount of Dawn soap! Worked GrEaT!
Can I take the Hogue grips off and then be able to put them back on?
Also, I have Talon grips as well. Which grip is superior?
Hey, I just replied to your other question and saw this post. Yes, the Hogue grips can be taken off and on but do it carefully because the thinner areas can split and tear.
What kinda magazine can you use on the ss80%, and can you use the taran tactical mag extension on them
Wow I purchased one for my S&W Shield 9mm it looks nice once you get it on ..but you will break a sweat getting there😂😂 Hogue grip are the best..
Need one for my 45. But def buying one for my 42
Instead pressing down with all my might, I just leveraged it on after using hot water with a spoon handle and it slipped right on hot water made it a ton easier.
Which is wider... the 43 with this grip or g26?
does it work for the 43x mos?
will it fit a G44
Would it be possible to turn it inside out and almost roll it on to the gun?
Chris Wilson no
I put one on my Glock 21 and my Ruger Security 9 and didn't use anything - took a minute but, no problem and work great.
Thanks for the video...I didn’t realize they were so difficult to slide on. I think Ill go for the skins instead.
Will this work on a SS80 poly frame ?
How can u remove it?
Can you use magwells with this grips?
Damn I just sprayed A bit of Windex and sucker went on with some struggle....obviously...but I think the water thing doesn't help at all lol
nathanruiz6 windex works great . Water hinders it..
nathanruiz6 Hot water makes rubber grip more soft and statch. Tried it without hot water method and took me half an hour.
nathanruiz6 hairspray, works wonders. Ive done ive on 3 previous guns
+1 as it took longer to prep the grip. I also took a tip form Frogman405 and squeezed the grip like a sponge for a few minutes and had it installed in about a minute.
Yeah he made a video on how not to do this
Oddly enough, once I got it over the bottom of the mag well, I had very little difficulty. Now I did have the rubber Talon grips on it so maybe that made it easier. Also, they move around a bit on the G42. This makes sense since the grip is more narrow than the G43. Just one guys experience.

I have both the Hogue grip and Talon grips.
Put a little Windex on the gun grip. Boil the rubber grip for a couple minutes to soften it up. Slides right on.
